When I wrote the novel, How to Be a Good Gay Bottom, I didn't want the character to be too rigid about anything regarding anal sex. So I made him a virgin who's inexperienced, and through his inexperience he eventually finds the perfect man and falls in love. And the fact that he's in love, and he's having sex with someone he does love, makes his first experience with anal sex positive. In this case it's really more about the emotion than the sex. But while doing research for the book I discovered there are, indeed, quite a few gay men who do not like anal sex whatsoever. Apparently, gay men like this are called 'sides.'

I was curious about this, too. so I did a few searches. It's from the Planned Parenthood site, which I believe to be accurate.
Anal sex is normal for some couples — straight or gay — and not for others. Whether you have anal sex depends on what makes you and your partner comfortable.
