Trevor Donovan and Texas Rising; John Carroll's Advice Column; Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Are Daddies

Trevor Donovan and Texas Rising

If you don't know much about Trevor Donovan, here's his web site. I've been posting about an upcoming mini-series on The History Channel he'll be starring in titled, Texas Rising. You can read more about TR here, where I've posted a few times. Donovan's web site is simple to navigate and if you're like me and you've been meaning to work on a new web site you might get a few ideas. I think his web site designer is mentioned there as well.

In any event, for those who don't know much about Texas history, here's a link I found fascinating. I've written a lot of novels set in Texas (the entire Glendora Hill series) and I've had to research a good deal of this, I had to contact friends on social media who live in Texas to find out little details, like climate and terrain.

On March 2, 1836, with the Alamo under siege, delegates from across Texas met and declared their independence from Mexico. Feelings of Texas pride have remained strong ever since, going well beyond just football and barbecue. Explore nine things you may not know about the Lone Star State.

Here's another link with more about the mini-series, Texas Rising.

Here's a book titled, The Texas Rangers, with Kit Acklin...Christopher B. Acklin.

And here's a youtube video with Donovan that's not related to Texas Rising, however, it's an interesting short interview he gave last December at the RFK Ripple of Hope awards in NY. In other words, you'll see a lot of great beefcake videos and photos of Donovan, but not much that shows he's smart, which is also important. I'm all for fun, sexy promotional marketing at any time, but I also think it should be balanced. Dolly Parton's big breasts helped make her famous, but her brilliance kept her famous. You can quote me on that.

Texas Rising will be airing on May 25th, on The History Channel, and I'll probably be posting more about the Texas Rangers before then. The problem is that getting any information online isn't easy. In the US we tend to ignore history if Washington or Lincoln didn't sleep there.

John Carroll's Advice Column

Here's something a little different. The talented John Carroll is doing an advice column.

Have a problem? Need some good advice? Well, you could bend the ear of a trusted confidant to give you some sage words of wisdom…or you could go against your better judgement and just ask me. You can contact me at or follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

There's more here, with a video.

Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Are Daddies

I'll bet anything most of you think this is about Cooper and Cohen adopting a kid and living HEA. Well, so did I. I really did. I'm not joking about that. My first thought was, "How nice."

Evidently, I was wrong. This isn't about them becoming dads. This is about them being in "Yes, Daddy, give me some more, Daddy." I know. But I didn't write this. I'm just linking to it.

Andy Cohen opens up about his close friendship with Anderson Cooper to Attitude magazine when asked if they’re a similar type of gay man. Cohen puts it simply: “We’re both daddies? We’re both silver guys? We are! He’s my good mate. We have a great time. He and I are going on tour together, starting this month, in Boston. We travel extensively together actually. We’re doing a speaking tour soon. But yes, we’re both daddies.”

You can read the rest here, with more stories of idiocy that seem to be similar to this one :)

In this third book in The Rainbow Detective series, Proctor and Blair take on a case that involves blackmail, kidnapping, and a handsome young guy with two perfect penises. The guy with two penises is a public personality, and the wealthy client who hires Blair and Proctor is willing to pay a huge sum of money to keep the guy's two penises a secret.

As fascinated as Blair and Proctor are with the guy who has two penises, there are dangerous, unexpected twists in this case that put them in grave danger. And the fact that they are in love with each other doesn't make working together any easier. It's the kind of peculiar double penis case that will not only test their love, but also test whether or not they can continue working together.

Will Blair be able to grow up and meet Proctor's professional expectations? And will Proctor ever be able to get the guy with two perfect penises out of his head?

Male Full Frontal Nudity in Films; Actors Who Have Done Full Frontal Nudity; Hot Man At Philly Art Museum

Male Full Frontal Nudity In Films

When I come across these things, I like to post them for other people who find male full frontal nudity in films appropriate at times, and also because some of us think it adds more to a film's story line. According to this site, it's all perfectly legal and done with consent.

Not to be completely weird, but do you ever feel like you’re constantly watching art house films and premium cable shows that show a lot of naked women, but nary a naked man? It’s probably because there still is a lingering stigma against presenting the male form in all its glory on film. That said, there are plenty of great films and television shows that feature famous actors (like Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and Viggo Mortensen) in full frontal nude scenes. In fact, many of these titles are so great that you should watch them anyway — the nudity is just a bonus! Oh, and you can stream all of them. It’s no big deal!

Here's a link where you can find out more.  I've already posted about some of these films and like the paragraph above states they are worth watching with or without the full frontal nudity.

Actors Who Have Done Full Frontal Nudity

This is a fairly recent article, and that's the main reason why I'm linking to it now. Since I last posted anything about male actors who have done full frontal nudes scenes a few more have been added to the list. Ben Affleck for one. I'm always on the fence about him, and only because he's always so vocal about political things that I may or may not agree with. But as far as his films go I'll admit that I've rarely seen a Ben Affleck movie I didn't think was excellent. Or for that matter a Ben Affleck nude scene.

It seems that male nudity makes both women and men uncomfortable, but we barely bat an eyelash when we see naked women in films (or on TV). And it's no wonder we're desensitized to female nudity: it's practically a regular occurrence on the big screen, while we rarely get a chance to squirm in our seats at the sight of an undressed man.

As usual, the comments are also worth reading. One woman really nailed it with this one:

Women like to see naked men on TV and are tired of having to watch naked women in every movie, especially if they are watching with their boyfriends . It really makes me upset that you just started the article out by generalizing women as a whole and your dead wrong .

You can find out more here.

Hot Man At Philly Art Museum

It's hump day, so why not celebrate another hot man. This time it is 27 year old fitness model, Geoff Peirce, and it happened at the Philadelphia Art Museum, a place I'm familiar with because I live in what's considered the most northern part of the Philadelphia area...Bucks County. Only I didn't know about this:

Not since Rocky have we been so interested in the steps leading up to the Philadelphia Art Museum. OK, that’s a lie, we weren’t that interested in Rocky to begin with.

But there’s no denying the appeal of this impossibly fit beast of a man who was snapped getting his sweat on recently.

You can check out the photos here. It's worth the bait to click this time.  And it's all SFW.

Andrea James On Bruce Jenner's Transition; Gay Hotelier Apologizes for Ted Cruz Dinner; The Guy With Two Penises by Ryan Field

Andrea James On Bruce Jenner's Transition

This is one of those times I'm going to seriously practice what I preach here on the blog. I'm linking to a commentary by LGBT rights activist and transgender, Andrea James, and I'm not commenting at all on transgender issues. This is one of those times when as a gay man I can't know, feel, or understand what transgender people go through. I can only listen, support, and try as hard as I can not to preach to other people what I don't know, and never will know, from first hand experience.

But more than that, I'm not going to examine transgender people because I know them personally or because my best transgender friend knows them, as if they are science experiments. If I were to try to examine transgender people this way, coming from the POV of a gay man, I would be that disingenuous douchey guy who did that.

So, here's a little background about Andrea James.

She doesn't come without controversy, which you can see from this article

And here's the piece I'm linking to where James talks about Bruce Jenner's transition.

This needs to be said first: Anyone who discussed Jenner’s possible transition in the media for any reason before April 24, 2015 is part of the problem. That includes trans people. The “teaching moment” could wait, the scolding of the press could wait. The mocking or slamming of Jenner for how this transition is unfolding on TV could wait. That was all just feeding the trolls, and the trans people doing it were essentially engaging in self-promotion. But now that we have an announcement, let the games begin!

This needs to be said second: Coming out as gay, lesbian, or bi can certainly be stressful and challenging, but transgender people face an extra layer of challenges because we often change our appearance, name and other fundamental ways we interact with others. If a trans person enjoyed any amount of pre-transition notability, the process is even more difficult. Arguably, no one as famous as Jenner has ever announced a gender transition, so there’s intense scrutiny not only from the press, but from the trans community concerned about what effects the announcement and upcoming reality show might have. Any trans people who think they can second-guess what Jenner should or shouldn’t do based on their own transitions under far less famous circumstances don’t know what they’re talking about.

It's a thoughtful piece and I highly suggest reading it in full. Again, no comment from me because I just don't feel as if I have a right to comment this time because I'm not transgender. And also because I know all too well what it's like to have people of privilege commenting on my life as a gay man. It's not fun, trust me.

Gay Hotelier Apologizes for Ted Cruz Dinner

I just posted about this yesterday, so all you have to do is scroll down a little on the blog. This is a follow up, which I didn't expect so soon.

For those who don't feel like scrolling, Gay hotelier, Ian Reisner, issued an apology on his Facebook page after receiving backlash when it was discovered he hosted an event for anti-gay marriage advocate, Ted Cruz. As a result of the Ted Cruz event, Broadway Bares cancelled a fundraising event at a club Reisner owns, 42 West.

Here's the apology:
I am shaken to my bones by the e-mails, texts, postings and phone calls of the past few days. I made a terrible mistake. I was ignorant, naive and much too quick in accepting a request to co-host a dinner with Cruz at my home without taking the time to completely understand all of his positions on gay rights. I’ve spent the past 24 hours reviewing videos of Cruz’ statements on gay marriage and I am shocked and angry. I sincerely apologize for hurting the gay community and so many of our friends, family, allies, customers and employees. I will try my best to make up for my poor judgement. Again, I am deeply sorry.”

I'm not even sure what to say about that apology. But if you have to spend 24 hours reviewing Ted Cruz's record on gay marriage to fully understand where Ted Cruz stands, there's probably something wrong with you. For most people it would take five minutes.

You can check out the rest here. You'll want to read the comments, too.

CBS, Tony Perkins, Anti-Gay Leader; Are Bottoms More Promiscuous? Broadway Bares and Ted Cruz

CBS, Tony Perkins, Anti-Gay Leader

Even the mainstream media is having trouble listening to Tony Perkins these days. So much so that they're referring to Tony Perkins as the Anti-Gay Leader, and the Family Research Council as a hate group. But what I find most interesting is that most Christians do NOT feel that Tony Perkins or the Family Research Council speaks for them.

“The Southern Poverty Law Center has branded the Family Research Council an anti-gay hate group,” Schieffer explained as if it were a warning to his viewers. “We have been inundated by people who say we should not even let you appear because they, in their view — quote — you don’t speak for Christians.”

Perkins argued that the Supreme Court had no place deciding whether LGBT people deserved equal protection under the Constitution because “it does a disservice to both sides if the court weighs in on public policy like this.”

“The courts are decided [SIC] to interpret the Constitution and the constitutionality of laws, not to create public policy,” he opined. “When they do that, they create division and they erect barriers to reaching consensus on public policy like this. So no, we stand with millennia of experience that the union of a man and a woman — the sacred union of marriage — is the cornerstone of society.”

You can read more, and check out a video here. I've been waiting for this to happen, where the majority of Christians in the US start speaking up about how they feel so misrepresented by the far right in both the religious and political spectrum. And it's not a matter of free speech and silencing them. I truly believe that should be able to say what they want. It's just a matter of showing them the door.

Are Bottoms More Promiscuous?

I think this is the kind of thing that fascinates people, even if it is pure clickbait. Partly because it's rare to find a gay man willing to admit whether he's a full top or a full bottom, and partly because it sets up a pattern of sorts with all kinds of social ramifications.

“I’ve always believed that bottoms have more fun,” blogger Jerry Plaza writes in a new op-ed published by “We’re able to tease, please and squeeze our way into sexual situations necessary for us to be a part of. After all, if there isn’t a man willing to bend over backwards, penetration is out of the question.”

Plaza, a self-proclaimed “power bottom,” says that when it comes to red hot gay lovin’, bottoms hold most of the cards.

“Most of the time, bottoms don’t need to seek out sex,” he writes. “Guys are drawn to us like a moth to a flame. … Go to the dance club and see for yourself, or better yet change the preference on your Grindr or online dating profile to ‘Power Bottom’ and see how many more messages you receive.”

I'm sorry. I'm calling bullshit on this one. First, it's really not always easy to tell. In fact, it's almost impossible to tell unless the sloppy-ass bottom is so obnoxious about being a power bottom you would rather have nothing to do with him in the first place because he's so sleazy. Second, you can go to any gay club, hook up site, or cruising ground anywhere in the world and you're going to find nothing but bottoms looking for that one great top, which rarely ever happens. So if you look at this as a simple supply and demand situation, the top holds all the cards because he is in such high demand. Now tell me I'm wrong and make me smile.

I had a friend from Bosnia once who could sum all this up in four words: "They Are All Bottoms." That might be a little extreme, but it's not that far off either. And all of this falls under the title of, "It's Complicated." In other words, gay sex is not always all about anal sex. There are many gay men who don't like it at all.

The comments...116 of them...seem to agree with me.

Broadway Bares and Ted Cruz

I'm going to try to keep a convoluted situation as simple as I can right now.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz is anti-gay marriage. Yet he's been linked to wealthy gay hotel owners in NY...these wealthy gays had an event for him at their NY apartment.  It's nothing sexual; it's people in power dealing with other people in power. Now the gay hotel owners are dealing with boycott threats because they are linked to Ted Cruz. I know, it sounds as if I'm making this up. I'm not.And it gets even worse.

Evidently, the gay hotel owners also own the club, 42 West, where Broadway Bares was supposed to be doing a fundraiser on May 10th. When it was disclosed there was a relationship/connection between the gay club owners and Ted Cruz, this transpired:

It is with regret that we have decided to cancel this year’s edition of the Broadway Bares Solo Strips fundraiser, which was scheduled for May 10 at the NYC club 42West. We cannot in good conscience hold an event at a venue whose owners have alienated our community, as reflected in an April 23 New York Times story and an April 24 follow-up post.

We do business with and accept fundraising support from a variety of people across a wide spectrum of political and religious affiliations. The rich diversity of our community makes what we do together so special. It is a rare instance where the actions of a donor negatively impacts us as an organization and potentially jeopardizes our relationship with others whose support is integral to our success. But when it does occur, in a way that’s blatantly against all we stand and work for, we can’t pretend it doesn’t come with consequences. Silence is not a neutral position. It is complicit.

This is not about partisan politics or punishment. This is about doing what’s right to ultimately ensure that our commitment to the men, women and children we serve cannot be questioned.”

You can find that quote here.

I don't mean to diminish this in any way, and I support Broadway Bares completely with their decision to cancel, without hesitation. It's just that I've known this kind of politics, and these kinds of gay men before. So frankly, it doesn't surprise me that there would be extremely wealthy gay men having a supportive event for the likes of Ted Cruz and completely ignoring the gay marriage issue, or toning it down as if it means nothing at all. It is, in deed and action, complicit.

Straight Guy Secret Man Crushes; Obama's Gay Jokes; Prostate Pleasure

Straight Guy Secret Man Crushes

Here's another one about straight guys apparently having secret man crushes on other guys. It seems to be trending in gay presses.

We’ve heard that straight men are a lot more bisexual than you might think, and science has even tried to explain why so many straight dudes fantasize about having gay sex, but when it comes to hetero daydreams about a same-sex encounter, who tends to pop up naked?

We asked Whisper to do a little digging. Here’s what they found:

You can see the photos here. It's funny. And, maybe there is some accuracy to it as well.

Obama's Gay Jokes

This is actually funny, too. It looks as if President Obama is opening up a little more now that he has the freedom to do this. And he's doing it with a little snark.

He delivered a laser-sharp barb at the expense of Michele Bachmann and her recent prediction that rapture was upon us. “Michele Bachmann actually predicted that I would bring about the biblical end of days. Now, that’s a legacy. That’s big. I mean, Lincoln, Washington, they didn’t do that.”

Here's the rest of the article.

Prostate Pleasure

This one is about as simple as it gets. "The Ins and Outs of Prostate Pleasure." I really wish there were more exciting stories in gay news, but lately they seem to be scrambling for material. Michele Bachmann better say something soon or we'll be reading about nut sacks next.

2. It makes your orgasm
Or at least, a significant part of it. In a small 2011 study, almost 40 percent of men who had their prostate removed reported being unable to orgasm. A larger 2014 study found only five percent were unable to orgasm after prostate removal, but 60 percent of men reported less intense orgasms. So while the science is unclear, the evidence suggests prostates are necessary for orgasms to be their best. Which leads us to …

There is more here, with a video. Actually, all sarcasm aside, it really is important for all men to know more about this. Any little bit helps, no pun intended.

Mama June Is Bisexual; Bruce Jenner's Roller Coaster; Frank Ocean Changed His Name

Mama June Is Bisexual

Even though I follow all this on social media, I haven't seen many reality TV shows...and I don't plan to in the future. However, I do know who Honey Boo Boo is. How could you not know? She's kind of like the modern day Shirley Temple, loosely speaking, who can't sing, dance, or yodel.

In any event, Honey Boo Boo's mom, Mama June, and her sister, Pumpkin, recently came out as bisexual.

June 'Mama June' Shannon chimed in to correct her daughter: 'Bisexual.'

'I'm not going to lie, I played in the minors but never went pro,' she added.

By not going pro, she means that while she has been with women physically, she has never had a relationship with one.

Of potential backlash from the revelations, June says: 'I look at it this way, haters are going to hate.'

You can read the rest here. I see a lot of people complaining about reality TV. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan myself. But someone is. And it has become a huge part of pop culture. These shows are evidently attracting a huge following and a lot of people are making a lot of money.

Bruce Jenner's Roller Coaster

I see a lot about Bruce Jenner, too, on social media and some of the things I see surprise me a little. I think by now everyone knows I've always supported trans people. All my life, in my real life, because I've known many trans people who lived and worked right here in New Hope. There was "Sheva" who was a male to female transgender who worked in Princeton for an attorney. There was "Mother Cavalucci" who not only lived as a transgender but also did regular drag shows at local gay bars. Then there was "Mary Margaret" who took her little dog with her everywhere. And those are just a few transgender people I've known. But some of this press about Jenner is often a little strange...and not because he's transgender. I blame it more on the press and the way it's handled.

'It’s going to be an emotional roller coaster but somehow I’m going to get through it,' Jenner says in the latest in a series of promos. 'I want to know how this story ends…you know… how does my story end?'

The most redeeming feature about this whole thing is that maybe Jenner will help other people who are trans come to terms with themselves. I just hope he gets a few highlights in his hair. That dark brown needs to go. The older you get the lighter you go.

The rest is here.

Frank Ocean Changed His Name

Of course I've posted about the good looking openly gay rapper, Frank Ocean, a few times. I would be sleeping at the proverbial wheel if I hadn't. I love rap music; I love good looking men like Frank Ocean. There's not much more to say.

For most of his life Frank Ocean has been known in private circles as Edwin Breaux. Not a bad name, but he recently made the Frank Ocean name legal.

According to TMZ, the Pyramids singer filed for the name change back in March.

But due to some outstanding legal issues, mainly to do with his drivers license, the court put the brakes on the process.

It's now gone through, so he can be addressed both on and off stage by Frank Ocean.

Here's the rest, with a photo.

Trevor Donovan in Texas Rising Trailer; Gay Man and Bloody McDonald's Burger; Robin Williams' Last Gay Role

Trevor Donovan In Texas Rising Trailer

I've posted a few times about Trevor Donovan starring in the upcoming History Channel mini-series, Texas Rising. You can check that out here.

It's a series filled with history during a time in America a lot of us don't know much about. It's focused on the Texas Revolution and the Texas Rangers. Donovan is playing Kit Acklin, who was a Texas Ranger with deep American roots, and it will debut on May 25th, almost one month from today.

Rather than get into more historical facts this time, here's a new trailer for TR, with a vocal by Kris Kristofferson. You'll like this, trust me.

Gay Man and Bloody McDonald's Burger

A 24 year old gay man went to a McDonald's in Washington state and they called him a faggot and served up a rare burger seeping with blood. But to be perfectly honest, this isn't just a clear case of gay hate. It is bad, as it stands. But there really is more to the story.

As far as I can parse this, the gay guy overheard the manager calling out an employee and the guy didn't like what he heard.

Then, the gay guy spoke to the employee who was getting yelled at:

'I stated if she was my manager and was in my face, I would not tolerate that.'

The employee went back and told the manager (the manager is a woman) what the gay guy said. And this transpired:

'As they both were speaking, they both turned around and looked at me and then I explained that he did not need to tell her. I then stated that I would gladly explain to her how I felt about her scolding an employee in front of customers and crew members,' he said.

Because the manager is supposed to care about what the gay guy feels?

The manager replied.

'She then looks at me, shrugs her shoulders and says, “I really don’t care.”'

The manager could have left it at that, but she didn't.

You can read more here. There are a few more interesting details. Even if the gay guy may or may not have been a douche in this case, it still doesn't give anyone the right to refer to him with pejoratives or give him bad food. The manager could have just called him a douche and left it at that. But they always have to bring the gay angle into it.

Robin Williams' Last Gay Role

This July there will be an indie film released titled, Boulevard. It stars the late Robin Williams and he'll be playing a gay character who is coming to terms with being gay rather late in life.

'Boulevard is a complex, life-affirming and surprising film and Robin’s final performance is absolutely remarkable,' Kevin Kasha, head of acquisitions for Starz, tells Entertainment Weekly.

Producer Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso tells EW: 'We are very excited about partnering with Starz Digital to get this beautiful movie out there.'

In the film, Williams' character begins an unsettling relationship with a young hustler (Roberto Aguire) and his safe existence with his wife (Kathy Baker) is rocked to its foundation.

Even though it sounds like all the painfully stereotypical tragic gay books and films I've worked hard as a writer to stay away from in my lifetime, because not everything that is gay is tragic and painful, it also sounds like something that can and does happen in real life. And there's no doubt that I will make a point of seeing it. Hollywood can't help themselves...yet. They only associate gay story lines with pain and tragedy about sad sack figures who are gay and are "rocked" to their foundations because they are gay.

I'm gay. I'm happy. And even though I do face various forms of discrimination daily that I've learned how to deal with, each time I've been rocked to my proverbial foundation it had nothing to do with my being gay. Usually it's when I lose my keys.

So there you are.

Did Lose Credibility? School Coach Fired For Hate Tweet About Pizza Jerks; Doris Day's Last Visit With Rock Hudson

Did Lose Credibility?

One of the reasons why I rarely do book reviews here is because I'm a published author and a blogger.  As an author and blogger I don't want my readers to think I'm in collusion with other authors or publishers to promote or solicit books. I also don't want to cross the lines. I have always believed that reviews are for readers, not for authors. I think the last book I reviewed here was James Franco's Actors Anonymous. I don't know Franco, nor do I ever want to know him.

I also blog for free, without ads, because I believe the spirit in personal blogging is not for profit in a broad sense. The only books I promote here are my own. And most of the time I fall short in that department, too.

Rhetorically speaking, I couldn't help wonder if the romance review site,, has lost credibility since the disclosure that the owner of the blog, a woman (I don't believe in doxxing either) who goes by the pen name of "Jane Litte," has been writing and getting New Adult genre books published under another pen name, "Jen Frederick." What happened with "Jane Litte" and her disclosure about "Jen Frederick" goes quite a bit deeper than a pen name.

I'm not going to get into all that here, mainly because I'd like to remain objective. Most people already know the story and for those who don't there are plenty of links out there with a simple search. This particular link to a blog titled The Passive Voice gets more involved, and there are comments you might find interesting...or not.

I'm just wondering, once again rhetorically speaking, if any book review blog can continue to maintain the same credibility it once had after something like this. And, can the contributors associated with that blog continue to remain credible? There are no easy answers at this point. In many cases does more than just review books. I can't add any personal comments here because I truly believe that only time will tell in this case.

We do tend to be a culture that forgives. It's what we do.

School Coach Fired For Hate Tweet About Pizza Jerks

This is an ironic twist, for certain. When the owners of Memories Pizza in Indiana made the announcement they would not cater a gay wedding because of their religious convictions, a high school coach tweeted something that got her fired.

She said: 'Who’s going to Walkerton, IN to burn down #memoriespizza w me? Agree with #FreedomofReligion bill? "That’s a lifestyle they CHOOSE" Ignorant.'

The next day, Dooley told school officials about the tweet and how it was receiving negative attention online.

'The promotion of harmful, illegal activity to Concord Schools' students by a lay coach is unacceptable,' Concord Community Schools' Superintendant Wayne Stubbs said in a statement yesterday (21 April).

'Concord Schools thanks Ms. Dooley for the services that she provided as a lay high school coach during the past few years.

'She has learned a difficult lesson concerning the incorrect use of electronic communications. Unfortunately, too often electronic communications are sent without the sender fully appreciating the potentially harmful effect of that message.

I hate to speculate on things like this, but if you know Twitter and you know how people Tweet I would say the odds are that Dooley had no intentions of ever going anywhere with a torch in her hand. I would highly doubt she ever intended to harm anyone or anything, let alone burn down some trashy pizza joint no one cares about.

However, last night someone I follow posted a short video of himself practicing old west gun techniques. You know, how they spin the guns and throw them up in the air. That was all in fun, without political or social motivation. But the PC police sent him PMs attacking him for promoting guns and violence...which he was NOT doing at all.

The point is that you can't trust anything anymore. Watch what you tweet, post, or put in writing anywhere online. Watch what you text or e-mail. It could wind up changing your life more than you thought it would.

You can read more about Dooley here.

Doris Day's Last Visit With Rock Hudson

Doris Day and Rock Hudson made many films together in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Hudson died of AIDS during the height of the AIDS epidemic and shocked the world when we discovered America's leading man was actually gay. Doris Day has been out of the spotlight for probably more years than she was in it. Evidently, she's 91 years old now and talking about her last visit with Rock Hudson.

'He was very sick. But I just brushed that off and I came out and put my arms around him and said "Am I glad to see you,"' she tells People Magazine.

Even though he was dying of complications from AIDS during that final visit in 1985, Hudson kept his promise to appear in the premiere episode of Day's new talk show.

'He'd get very tired,' she recalls of his visit to Carmel in California where she lives and where the show was taped.

'I'd bring him his lunch and fix him a big platter but he couldn't eat. I'd say "What if I get a fork and feed you" but he said "Doris I can't eat."'

There's more here, with a video of them both.

Rainbow Detective Agency: The Guy With Two Penises; More About Cultural Appropriation; What Is "Genderqueer?" Tallywackers Male Hooters

Rainbow Detective Agency: The Guy With Two Penises

It's release day for another book in The Rainbow Detective Agency series. This one is subtitled, The Guy With Two Penises. And that's because one of the characters in the book has diphallia, which is a rare syndrome where a man is literally born with two penises. There's information on the web about this with a simple search. I didn't want to get too technical. In the same respect, I didn't want to be glib about it either...or appropriate. So I tried to treat it with sensitivity and respect as well as offering some light hearted dialogue...and sex an outsider looking in. In this case, I am the outsider.

Here's the blurb:

The book will also be at iTunes and B&N. When I get an Amazon link, I'll post that, too. And, this is the 3rd book in the series, but each book can be read as a stand alone.

More About Cultural Appropriation

I actually came across this link at one of the most unlikely places. As it turns out, I'm glad I went there because it's one of the most engaging posts on cultural appropriation I have seen...probably ever. In this case, the culture being appropriated is deaf culture.

I make no claims to know anything about this particular subject, however, I do know what it's like as a gay man to face cultural appropriation on what is usually a daily basis.

Here is one particularly interesting quote.

It has become a commodity of which any con artist can appropriate a few signs for themselves to create a persona.  They film themselves, stand on stage, teach classes, and strut with pride.  They know ASL! They have a right to use ASL!

No. You do not. It is not yours to use for your financial benefit. You are a thief. You are stealing our language, mangling it, and regurgitating a weaker, inaccurate version. You smile in your YouTube videos, on your spot on the stage, in your classes, smiling, basking in the spotlight. You do not care about our language. You do not take the time to learn about what ASL really is. You do not care about Deaf people. You only care about the accolades that you receive.

You can read the rest here. I hope the link works. However, as I stated above my post is about appropriating all cultures, not just one.

Thankfully, there are people presenting this argument in other places so we have these examples from which to draw.

What Is Genderqueer?
I've posted about this topic before, too. Genderqueer, I find, is not a term people know well...even the people who are genderqueer in some cases.

Gender identity. Biological sex. Gender expression. Cisgender. Transgender. Genderqueer. Androgyny. The gender binary. If you’ve ever wondered about the definition of some of these terms, Ashley Mardell’s video about the ABC’s of LGBT is a great starting point. She acts as a moderator as several of her friends break down different terms related to gender in this wonderfully in-depth video. This video serves as a great tool for cisgender allies who are looking to strengthen their knowledge of the LGBT community they’re hoping to stand besides, and those who have questions about their gender identity. The team manages to pack in a lot of information in a cohesive, easy to understand manner, especially about a topic that we aren’t granted the opportunity to learn too much about in mainstream spaces and education. Can you imagine if we were taught these terms in school?

It's a really good video that explains something most of us aren't familiar with.

Tallywackers Male Hooters

I almost feel guilty posting this because the other two news items were so serious and educational. But we all need a little fun, too. This is being compared as the male version of Hooters.

Finally, the restaurant we’ve been waiting for.
Tallywackers is a new dining establishment coming to Dallas. Per a help wanted ad posted to Craigslist, it appears to be a bar and restaurant specializing in hot dogs and other phallic-shaped foods served up by a staff of half-naked hunks.

You can read more here.

What I find most interesting is that the women who have been screaming about objectification, and rightly so, all these years are some of the biggest offenders when it comes to objectifying men. I make no comment on that because I think we all need to lighten up a little, including me sometimes. I just find it interesting there seems to be a reverse double standard nowadays.

Marco Rubio On Gay As a Choice; Barry Manilow Feels Free; Saving The Black Cap Gay Bar

Marco Rubio On Gay As a Choice

Although I'm rarely political, I think I'm following this next Presidential election more closely because there are so many important LGBT issues that have yet to be resolved. The problem right now with almost all politicians is they don't seem to know where to stand on LGBT issues...especially Republicans. I'm not talking about the far right. We know where the Christian conservatives stand. I'm talking about Republicans who are trying to win over younger people...those Republicans who have been watching the polls and know that public opinion is changing.

And then there's this.

The other day I posted something where Marco Rubio mentioned gays and choices. Now he's saying this:

The Floridian Republican, who announced last week that he is running for president, said on CBS's Face the Nation: 'I ... don't believe that your sexual preferences are a choice for the vast and enormous majority of people.

'In fact, the bottom line is I believe sexual preference is something that people are born with.'

Now here's what he said last week.

'I’m not going to hurt them simply because I disagree with a choice they’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they’ve made, or whatever it may be,' Rubio said in a previous interview.

That's where he loses people. In one breath he appears to be stating  gay is a choice, and in another he's stating the opposite.

You can read the rest here. I just hope this doesn't portend a lot more idiocy to come in the next election. I can respect where someone stands even if I don't agree with him. But I don't think it's fair for a candidate to force voters to parse every comment they make.

Barry Manilow Feels Free

Although Barry Manilow hasn't commented on his recent gay marriage, Suzanne Somers who was there has made a few comments. And please don't tell me I shouldn't refer to it as a "gay" marriage. Right now, where things stand, it's a big deal and it IS a gay marriage. I hope this changes in the future, but right now I think it's important to own it.

'They’re married and really happy, and I was there when it was announced and they’ve been together for 30 years,' Somers said during an appearance this week on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live.

WWHL host Andy Cohen remarked: 'Wow. It’s wild. He never formally came out and said it. It’s something everybody knew. It’s wonderful he’s been with his partner for 30 years.'

Somers also said: 'I think it’s freeing for him. He’s one of the most incredible people and a true musical genius. I believe he is the Irving Berlin of our generation. The impact he has made on music is incalculable.'

That really is something. They're together 30 years. I'm with Tony 23 years and I'm still not sure where all the time went...and, the first sixteen years were spent partially keeping it hidden. Not totally, but we didn't tell Tony's family, and Tony never let anyone in corporate America know he was gay or with someone in a long term relationship. Evidently, there are a lot of us out there.

You can read the rest here about Manilow. I hope he is feeling enough to speak up now.

Saving The Black Cap Gay Bar

I've posted many times about how the gay bar as a concept has been disappearing slowly since the 90's. I'm not getting into all that again, but I did post a question about it on social media and most of the gay men I know said they don't frequent gay bars anymore. All are different ages and come from different areas. There was a time when Tony and I were at several of the local gay bars here in New Hope at least twice a least. Now there's only one gay bar left and we go there only a few times a year. Do I feel guilty about this? No. Life changes, the world changes, and people move in different directions.

But there are drag queens in London working hard to keep The Black Cap in London open.

RuPaul's Drag Race queens are helping to save one of the most iconic London queer venues.

Latrice Royale, from season 4, and Morgan McMichaels, from season 2, joined together to call for lovers of drag around the world to sign a petition to save The Black Cap in Camden.

Closed without warning on 12 April, it is expected the owners are trying to turn the building into luxury flats.

I hate to see something this strongly related to gay culture disappear completely. The gay bar is a huge part of my past, too, just like small brick and mortar gay bookshops. Frankly, maybe they should go to RuPaul and ask her to invest her money in The Black Cap. This way RuPaul could be a hero and save the day. Because you can't blame the owners of buildings for trying to make a profit.

On the flip side, which is a little ironic, I would bet that many of the people who will be interested if they turn the place into luxury flats will, indeed, be upwardly mobile gay men who will repeat, at length, the history of the building with each intimate candlelight dinner party they give.

The rest is here.

Ben Affleck's Slave Owner Ancestor; Debra Messing Wanted More Will and Grace; Don't Call Hillary a "Gal"

Ben Affleck's Slave Owner Ancestor

After the Sony e-mail hack so many things still seem to be surfacing I'm starting to wonder what people are thinking when they click send with e-mails. I've always believed that no one is perfect, not even me I'm not. But I also believe that if you're a power celebrity you should know that nothing digital ever disappears. Especially someone like Ben Affleck who seems to portray himself as knowing it all, to the point where he often sounds as if he might run for public office. You expect smart people to run for office, people who know the basics at least.

And then there is this:

Hacked Sony emails reveal that actor-directorBen Affleck requested that his slave owner ancestor be removed from his family tree on PBS program Finding Your Roots.

In a series of WikiLeaks emails, the genealogy program's host Henry Louis Gates, Jr. emailed Sony chief Michael Lynton asking "advice" on the actor's request, according to New York Daily News.

"For the first time, one of our guests has asked us to edit out something about one of his ancestors - the fact that he owned slaves," Gates emailed Lynton in the July 22, 2014 email chain.

Gates went on to say that if word got out of the censoring, the brand would be tarnished and, "even for Batman," would be a violation of PBS rules.

I think it's very revealing, literally and figuratively. Of course they did edit this information out of the show, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It comes with Affleck's place of privilege, as a mega star and a straight white male. That's how it works. There's a link to the PBS web site where they "explain" why they self-censored. We all know how that works, too.

You can read the rest here.

Debra Messing Wanted More Will and Grace

I remember the first time I saw Will and Grace on TV. It was thrilling to see gay characters anywhere, let alone a sitcom on network TV. However, as the years went by I stopped watching for various reasons and the thrill disappeared as each season approached.

That by no means is a bad review or a negative reflection on my part. I think that show broke ground in more ways than one. And I know for a fact that repressed, closeted gay men who can't come out are still watching this show, and still discovering this show, in places like Youtube and it's actually helping them cope with their situations. And that sort of thing can never be played down. Will and Grace did more than just entertain people. It helped them live their lives.

Here's what Debra Messing had to say:

“I guess I would change the fact that we stopped after eight years,” Messing told HuffPo Live. “It was such a happy time, and we were all really exhausted by that point and it was the right thing to do at that time, but now obviously time has passed, and I watch the show with my son who laughs at it and I think it would’ve been really great to do it a few more years.”

I agree with her. You can check this out here.

Don't Call Hillary a "Gal"

This article is interesting to me because I supported Secretary Clinton when she ran for President in 2008. I voted for her in the primaries, where she won Pennsylvania by a wide margin. I was still supporting her when the DNC gave her nomination to someone else. Of course that's all in the past now, and Clinton has proven she's about as tough as anyone can get. But this article is a little ironic and patronizing, being that the entire LGBT community was NOT there to support Hillary when she needed it the most. And now they're back.
Mike Yowell, having coffee with Clinton during her visit to Council Bluffs, Iowa, said: "I was thrilled when you recently urged the Supreme Court to rule in favor of marriage equality. I was like 'That’s our gal. Yes.'"

Yowell clenched his fist and said: 'So thank you.'

Yowell told Clinton about how in the 1980s, he and his partner adopted a baby girl who had a really rough upbringing and who they were told would never even make it through high school.

Aside from the fact that I think this Yowell guy sounds like a first rate idiot, someone should really point out to him that you don't refer to the future President of the United States as a "gal." That makes you a misogynist and dumb as shit.

Other than that, it's nice to see the LGBT community finally supporting Hillary after all this time.

Gay Online Dating; The Men's Shower Room; The Latest X-rated Male Trend

Gay Online Dating

One thing that has changed a lot in the last ten years for everyone is how people meet and date. For both gay and straight people, online dating seems to be the proverbial method of choice...or at least the most popular method.

But there are drawbacks.

Gay dating websites can be an awesome way to connect but can also be a real drag. Messages go unanswered, hours seem wasted scrolling through endless profiles and something that’s supposed to hook you up leaves you feeling as isolated as ever.

We’ve reviewed the apps and websites, offered tips on creating your best profile and given you the stats, but we wanted to hear what people were saying about the experience. Is is more soul mate or soul crushing?

I don't know much about any of them so I can't comment. But frankly, I wish I had had these options when I was single. Ten or twenty years ago these things didn't exist, which in some ways limited our choices. So say what you will about online dating and the drawbacks, or complain about technology and less privacy, but at least people now have more options to connect than they ever had before. You can read the rest here.

The Men's Shower Room

Here's one of those lighter pieces, but still interesting at the same time.

A 2013 study conducted by Olay found that 29 percent of males have fantasized about getting down and dirty in the shower.

Aquaphilia refers to the sexual fetishism of water and/or partaking in sexual activity whilst wet. It should not be confused with urophilia, which refers to the sexual fetishism of urine (a.k.a. water sports).

There are photos depicting men and shower rooms, here.

I didn't know there was a name for a fetish. For me this is kind of like stating the obvious.

The Latest X-rated Male Trend

I'll bet most of you never knew this existed. There's an 18+ NSFW tumblr page that's dedicated to men who take photos of their penises on airplanes, and then they post those photos on social media.

There are a few ground rules, of course. Absolutely no minors allowed. No disturbing other people’s privacy. And, please, no flashing innocent bystanders. Also, don’t include your Twitter handle with your photo.

So far, hundreds of men from all around the globe, including some pilots and flight attendants, have submitted selfies to the x-rated website since August 2013. And the varying types of penises are plentiful. Hard, soft, cut, uncut, pierced, you name it. Some men include their faces in the pictures. Others remain anonymous.

I really don't know what to say. You can read the rest here.

Marco Rubio Gay Weddings; Jonathan Groff's Closeted Days; Cucumber and Banana Gay TV; He Fell In Love With a Deaf Guy

Marco Rubio Gay Weddings

Marco Rubio is running for President.

He's a Republican.

He doesn't believe in redefining the term "marriage."

But he would go to a gay wedding if invited.

Oh, and Marco Rubio thinks being gay is a choice.

Rubio tells Fusion he would not refuse to attend 'because I disagree with a choice they’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they’ve made, or whatever it may be.'

Guess who's not voting for Marco Rubio?

Millions of LGBT people, their families, their co-workers, their friends, and another million or so we don't hear from because they can't actually speak out about the topic.

Everyone who reads this blog knows I'm not one of those anti-Republican haters. I'm not a political zealot whatsoever. I know gay Republicans and I respect them. But seriously. If this is the best the Republicans can do than Hillary Clinton deserves to win on the platform of pure sarcasm.

I think a politician can get away with being this backward if he or she is older and from another generation. We tend to give them a pass out of respect. But when you're a relatively young guy like Rubio and you pull this, you just come off looking strange.

The rest is here.

Jonathan Groff's Closeted Days

I hope when people read this they fully know and understand that even though Jonathan Groff has evolved in his life to the point where he doesn't do things like this anymore, millions of gay people in the world are still, indeed, doing it. I point this out because I often see people in the m/m romance genre acting as if there a no more problems for gay people, in the US, or anywhere in the world...because they wrote about it in a m/m romance novel and commented about it on in a post like this.

What is that problem for gay people you ask?

Hiding their partners, lovers, or spouses.

'I didn't bring him as my date,' Groff said while accepting an award from the Point Foundation Monday night.

Groff, now 30, had made a name for himself on Spring Awakening but was not ready to share with the world that he was gay at the age of 21.

'Even though I was performing eight times a week in a show about the importance of self-expression and the danger of sexual repression, I kept my relationship with my "roommate" a secret,' he told the crowd at at the New York Public Library.

'I was still very scared and insecure about being gay. I did the stupidest things. And I went to great lengths to keep my cast and crew from asking me about my "roommate." For example, I never had him come to the theater, and I never invited him out after the show.

When Tony worked in corporate America I was never introduced to his staff or the people he worked with. That was only a few years ago. If he were still working in corporate America, I would still not be meeting his co-workers. I understood completely and never forced the issue. We aren't stupid people. And, we have a mortgage.

You can read the rest here. The comments will teach you about what you thought you knew already.

Cucumber and Banana Gay TV

Well, I set the DVR and watched the new gay TV shows, Cucumber and Banana

Without going into a long-winded review, I didn't finish either one of them and I won't be watching them again.

They just didn't do it for me and I had trouble identifying with any of the characters...and liking them. I know there are gay people out there like this, but I'm not one of them. So I guess it's all subjective. I switched to a rerun of House Hunters and watched two nice gay guys buy a loft in Center City Philadelphia. I could identify with them.

But if these two shows last, and a gay TV show like Looking couldn't make it, there's something definitely wrong with TV these days.

He Fell In Love With a Deaf Guy

Here's nice story about two guys who met online, fell in love, and one happens to be deaf. It makes so many of the catfishing tales we read about all the time fade in comparison.

'His Growlr name was "deaf guy,"' Craig told Gay Star News. 'At the time I thought, "Is he joking? Is he really deaf?"'

Craig said they 'talked and talked and talked... and we just clicked.' And when he found out that Glen was actually deaf, he was already looking past it.

‘The first day I spoke to Glen was 14 February 2013. I went to meet him the very next day,’ he said.
‘I was so nervous because I just started speaking to this guy yesterday and I was thinking, "How will we communicate if things go further?"’

Despite advice to the contrary from his ex, Craig met Glen at a shopping center in Birmingham, England.
Rubio tells Fusion he would not refuse to attend 'because I disagree with a choice they’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they’ve made, or whatever it may be.' - See more at:

You can continue reading about them here. After two years, they are still together. It's a real life happily-ever-after story.

I once dated a deaf guy, before I met Tony. We met in a bar and I noticed him fast because he looked like a young version of Sylvester Stallone. Tall, dark, and very muscular and a former football player. We dated a few times, but I was young and didn't ask too many questions. I did find it odd that he didn't feel safe hooking up anywhere but the backseat of his car. Unfortunately, I eventually found out why. He had a very jealous partner who came looking for him (and his car) one night, with a baseball bat. I'll spare you the rest. But I think I wrote about this in a story once. I just can't remember where.

Walk On Water Male Full Frontal Nudity; Aaron Schock's Problems; Male Bar Patron Rape; Cucumber and Banana Gay TV Shows

Walk On Water Male Full Frontal Nudity

Last night by accident while surfing through one dismal channel after the other, I found a ten year old film on Showtime titled, Walk On Water. The blurb was interesting because it mentioned a homophobic character, so I watched and was not disappointed at all.

The film revolves around an Israeli hit man who is straight and as hot as a man can get. He's hired to locate an old Nazi war criminal and he does that by befriending the war criminal's two grandchildren. One is a cute gay guy. You can read the rest of the plot here. As I said, it's a fascinating film for many reasons and the gay angle is just an angle. It's not a "gay" film that self-exploits gay people with a strong political LGBT agenda.

However, there was one excellent scene with male full frontal nudity. It's a beach scene between the hot straight guy and the cute gay guy. And, they are discussing circumcision. No spoilers.

Once again, a foreign film that's not afraid to do male full frontal, and actors who aren't afraid to to it either. And US film makers continue to focus only on female full frontal nudity.

Aaron Schock's Problems

I follow this guy, Aaron Schock, because for the life of me I can't understand why the all so sensitive and politically correct gay presses seem to want to bully him so often. And that's what it looks like to me. Bullying. You rarely see anything about Schock in the mainstream presses. I honestly don't get it. I get what he allegedly did, but I don't get the gay press obsession with Schock. Any number of politicians have done any number of questionable things and none of them have received coverage like this before.

In any event, since Schock left office, he's allegedly facing a few more least according to this article.

4. He was spending like crazy right up until the end. The same campaign report shows that Schock was dropping big bucks for luxury items almost to the end of his tenure. On the principle that he was entitled to the finest that his donors could buy, Schock spent $4,000 at a luxury hotel in Europe, more than $3,000 for gifts at Tiffany’s and more than $42,000 in travel expenses.

I think I remember something about the White House secret service hiring whores...more than once. I saw nothing about that in the gay presses. Hillary Clinton's questionable e-mails (and they are at the very least questionable) were pushed to the last page of the gay presses, if mentioned at all. And this is all such huge news about Aaron Schock?  Because he shopped at Tiffany's?

I just don't get it. There's a lot more here.

The comments are probably the most vituperative and uncivil I've seen in a while. I'm openly gay and I've been out most of my life. However, I don't really think it's anyone's fucking business who comes out and when they do it. And I say that with a great big smile to anyone who might not agree with me.

Male Bar Patron Rape

A 25 year old straight guy went out with friends to a London pub, the poor guy passed out after drinking too much, and allegedly woke up with his pants around his ankles and the owner of the bar on top of him. From the photo, the owner isn't anyone you'd want on top of you.

Coyne immediately fled the scene. Meanwhile, the victim called police, who seized security camera footage from the venue that corroborated the victim’s story.

Despite this damning evidence against him, Coyne still denied the charges. He was found guilty by a jury yesterday.

Following the verdict, Detective Constable Neil Hume, the officer in the case, told the media: “Coyne abused his position as a landlord of a pub to take advantage of an unconscious customer and showed no remorse. I would applaud the victim’s bravery attending court and hope that the sentence sends out a clear message.”

Most of the comments show not only idiocy, but that most don't know much about rape culture.

Cucumber and Banana Gay TV Shows

I didn't even know these two new gay TV shows were on. The fact that they follow Ru Paul's Drag Race doesn't help because I've never watched Ru Paul or her drag race.

Cucumber and Banana are two new series from Queer as Folk creator Russell T. Davies that premiered Monday on Logo following RuPaul‘s Drag Race. The shows take a hard (and often hilarious) look at the modern gay experience, often focusing the spotlight on the fumbling, awkward moments spent navigating the great gay universe.

I'll set the DVR now and make a point of watching them. I loved Queer as Folk, so maybe these two shows will be as good. And let's face it, with all due respect to the genre, Ru Paul's not that tough an act to follow. Sorry. I had to slip that one in. No offense to those who love her. That's just my way of showing rather than telling. I'm a gay guy, too. I get the right to be subjective sometimes just like everyone else. :)
