A Trans Man Competing for Mr. Gay England; Ryan Field Books

A Trans Man Competing for Mr. Gay England

This is very interesting because it's so new to everyone. I've known many trans women over the years that I've met in the gay community, mostly in gay bars, but I honestly never knew any trans men. At least I don't think I've known any trans men. It's hard to tell because I may have know a closeted trans man. Either way, though, my support has always been there...even now...without comment or judgment. And I plan to spread my support far and wide.

Chiyo is transgender and, in April next year, he'll be standing on stage with a group of other men - who aren't trans - to be judged in what is ultimately a male beauty contest.

Here's a link to more. There's a photo, too. They are very attractive.

"A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he'll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who's husband died last year. I enjoyed this story."

He Shot A Gay Man Six Times In the Back; Ryan Field Books

He Shot A Gay Man Six Times In the Back

This is partly about that new Netflix series, "I Am a Killer: Released." I haven't watched it yet, but I've seen it while scrolling a couple of times. I do plan to watch it eventually, though.

Dale Wayne Sigler walked into a Brazoria County, Texas, Subway shop and robbed it of $400. When the man behind the counter, John William Zeltner Jr., attempted to flee into the back room, he was shot six times.

You can read more about it, here.  They go into much more detail and it becomes a review of sorts. I thought it was interesting enough to make me watch the series.

Body Building Gay Couple Brutally Slain at Home; They'll Kill Your For Being Gay; Ryan Field Books

Body Building Gay Couple Brutally Slain at Home

Here's a story about a gay couple who were body builders and living in Malta.

Friends of the two men told the Times of Malta Pandolfino had gone to dinner with family visiting from the U.K. when he left early to return home. When the family also returned to the residence later that evening, the two men were dead.

Here's more. They were very well loved in the community and they will be missed by many. Terribly sad story.

They'll Kill You For Being Gay

Here's another horror story about a gay man living and trying hard to survive in one of those disgusting homophobic countries.

For years Mohamed's family tried to make him more like other boys - tougher, more "masculine". They even sent him to have a female spirit driven out with hallucinogenic drugs. Eventually, writes Layla Mahmood, they decided to kill him.

There's more at this link. The whole piece will give you a better understanding of what it's still like for some gay men in some parts of the world.

Brooklyn's East River State Park Renamed for Marsha P. Johnson; Ryan Field Books

Brooklyn's East River State Park Renamed for Marsha P. Johnson

This was nice to see. We're finally getting some recognition in history. Marsha P. Johnson, aka Malcolm Michaels Jr., was a gay activist who identified as a drag queen.

Brooklyn’s East River State Park is being renamed Marsha P. Johnson State Park, Governor Andrew Cuomo said in an August 24 announcement that coincided with the late LGBTQ icon’s 75th birthday.

Here's more about the park. There are a few excellent photos of how the park is going to look. It's beautiful.

Here's also more about Johnson. There's a lot of interesting material just in this one link alone. Like the fact that Johnson was one of the first drag queens allowed in the gay only bar, Stonewall. There's also more history about the Stonewall Riots.

How Being Catfished Helped This Gay Man; Ryan Field Books

How Being Catfished Helped This Gay Man

This is one of those stories that really do make you stop and think. In its own way it's actually something that helped a young man named Dustin come to terms with being gay. He had a rough time of it, especially the coming out part. And in the last 20 years I have seen similar cases like this on Facebook.

Dustin’s consequent journey into adulthood was not easy, but he said one thing that gave his 16-year-old self hope was meeting a fellow teenager named Keegan on Facebook.

Here's more. It's an unusual kind of happy ending.

Gay Mayor and Homophobic Sex Scandal; Ryan Field Books

Gay Mayor and Homophobic Sex Scandal

I think I've already posted something about this, so here's a little more.

It's about the openly gay mayor in a small town in Massachusetts who's also running for the state's 1st congressional district. But a college newspaper is alleging inappropriate behavior between the mayor and certain college students.

The allegations — that the young, gay mayor had used his position of power to sexually proposition vulnerable college students — spread quickly through his western Massachusetts district, leading one member of Holyoke’s city council to call for his resignation.

You can check out the rest, here. The mayor is defending himself and he claims this is a planned, coordinated political attack.

Netflix's The Boys in the Band; Ryan Field Books

Netflix's The Boys in the Band

I think I've posted about this before. The Boys in the Band is a classic gay play that dates back to the pre HIV/AIDS days. It's the kind of gay history we don't see often, especially nowadays with straight people straight washing our culture as much as they can. Like most people around now, I never knew what gay life was like without AIDS and I find just that part of the cultural aspect alone fascinating.

This isn't the first time the play has been made into a film. There's another film version that dates back to 1970 that I've seen several times. One of the actors is Laurence Luckinbill, husband of Lucie Arnaz. He's still alive.

So I'm curious to see what Netflix does with the story. Frankly, I'm not too thrilled with anything about Netflix lately.

Netflix’s version stars Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, and Andrew Rannells, and is produced by Ryan Murphy and directed by Joe Mantello.

If he sticks to the storyline, I don't see how Ryan Murphy can ruin this. As much as I want to see more gay storylines with happy endings and upbeat characters, I don't want this play turned into six more months of Glee. That would be a shame.

We'll see. The play is more like a serious, dark character study.
