The Don't Say Gay Laws are even Being Slammed by Republicans, and Rightly So
Sometimes it takes a while to process new laws, and to try to figure out if they are decent or unfair. No one I know in the LGBTQ community wants to harm children in any way. In fact, statics show that it's straight white men who do the most sexual abuse to kids. So I have to wonder why Ron DeSantis and his group down in Florida feel the need to attack all LGBTQ people.
With the said, there's another Republican coming out against the don't say gay laws. His name is Ken Griffin and he's a billionaire who's a large donor to Harvard. He recently posted his opinions in The Crimson, which is Harvard's university paper.
“However, as a steadfast supporter of open discourse, academic freedom, and free speech, Ken disagrees with Florida’s recent rule extending the prohibition of classroom instruction on these topics through 12th grade.”
Here's more. That was his only comment, but it gets in to a good deal more.
For me, one of the biggest issues with this is that gay kids...and I can only speak for gay men...do not get to know that facts of gay life until they are well into their 20s. And we learn it in the proverbial streets. We learn the straight facts of life in our teens, which in itself is a form of grooming gay kids. But we never talk about gay life with our parents. Even my liberal parents didn't want to go near the topic with me or with my brother. And now that things are changing and there's a new generation of parents, I would hope gay kids are talking these things over now with their parents. But after a certain mindset in Florida and a few other places, I find it very unfair to the concept of free speech to silence gay topics and gay kids.
“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
