It discusses how some have made anti-gay comments for political gain. 

One of these people, Sen. Benny Shendo, landed a nice new job at University of Colorado. Associate VP for Native American Affairs. 

Shendo has avoided all questions about whether or not accusations about his opponent surfaced while he was landing this job at University of Colorado. 

In 2008 Shendo went after Ben Ray Lujan claiming that he was hiding his sexual orientation. 

“You say you stand for the people of New Mexico, and I want to know how you can stand up for the people of New Mexico if you can’t stand up to your mom and dad about your lifestyle,” Shendo said to Luján.

Here's more. The story goes on to discuss how this kind of mudslinging never helps, and even though someone apologizes for anti-gay comments, even years later, that might not always work.
