It's release day for another book in The Rainbow Detective Agency series. This one is subtitled, The Guy With Two Penises. And that's because one of the characters in the book has diphallia, which is a rare syndrome where a man is literally born with two penises. There's information on the web about this with a simple search. I didn't want to get too technical. In the same respect, I didn't want to be glib about it either...or appropriate. So I tried to treat it with sensitivity and respect as well as offering some light hearted dialogue...and sex scenes...as an outsider looking in. In this case, I am the outsider.

More About Cultural Appropriation

I actually came across this link at one of the most unlikely places. As it turns out, I'm glad I went there because it's one of the most engaging posts on cultural appropriation I have seen...probably ever. In this case, the culture being appropriated is deaf culture.

I make no claims to know anything about this particular subject, however, I do know what it's like as a gay man to face cultural appropriation on what is usually a daily basis.

Here is one particularly interesting quote.

It has become a commodity of which any con artist can appropriate a few signs for themselves to create a persona.  They film themselves, stand on stage, teach classes, and strut with pride.  They know ASL! They have a right to use ASL!

            No. You do not. It is not yours to use for your financial benefit. You are a thief. You are stealing our language, mangling it, and regurgitating a weaker, inaccurate version. You smile in your YouTube videos, on your spot on the stage, in your classes, smiling, basking in the spotlight. You do not care about our language. You do not take the time to learn about what ASL really is. You do not care about Deaf people. You only care about the accolades that you receive.

What Is Genderqueer?

I've posted about this topic before, too. Genderqueer, I find, is not a term people know well...even the people who are genderqueer in some cases.

Gender identity. Biological sex. Gender expression. Cisgender. Transgender. Genderqueer. Androgyny. The gender binary. If you’ve ever wondered about the definition of some of these terms, Ashley Mardell’s video about the ABC’s of LGBT is a great starting point. She acts as a moderator as several of her friends break down different terms related to gender in this wonderfully in-depth video. This video serves as a great tool for cisgender allies who are looking to strengthen their knowledge of the LGBT community they’re hoping to stand besides, and those who have questions about their gender identity. The team manages to pack in a lot of information in a cohesive, easy to understand manner, especially about a topic that we aren’t granted the opportunity to learn too much about in mainstream spaces and education. Can you imagine if we were taught these terms in school?

Tallywackers Male Hooters

I almost feel guilty posting this because the other two news items were so serious and educational. But we all need a little fun, too. This is being compared as the male version of Hooters.

Finally, the restaurant we’ve been waiting for.

 Tallywackers is a new dining establishment coming to Dallas. Per a help wanted ad posted to Craigslist, it appears to be a bar and restaurant specializing in hot dogs and other phallic-shaped foods served up by a staff of half-naked hunks.

What I find most interesting is that the women who have been screaming about objectification, and rightly so, all these years are some of the biggest offenders when it comes to objectifying men. I make no comment on that because I think we all need to lighten up a little, including me sometimes. I just find it interesting there seems to be a reverse double standard nowadays.

Andrea James On Bruce Jenner's Transition

This is one of those times I'm going to seriously practice what I preach here on the blog. I'm linking to a commentary by LGBT rights activist and transgender, Andrea James, and I'm not commenting at all on transgender issues. This is one of those times when as a gay man I can't know, feel, or understand what transgender people go through. I can only listen, support, and try as hard as I can not to preach to other people what I don't know, and never will know, from first hand experience.

But more than that, I'm not going to examine transgender people because I know them personally or because my best transgender friend knows them, as if they are science experiments. If I were to try to examine transgender people this way, coming from the POV of a gay man, I would be that disingenuous douchey guy who did that.

So, here's a little background about Andrea James. 

She doesn't come without controversy, which you can see from this article.

This needs to be said first: Anyone who discussed Jenner’s possible transition in the media for any reason before April 24, 2015 is part of the problem. That includes trans people. The “teaching moment” could wait, the scolding of the press could wait. The mocking or slamming of Jenner for how this transition is unfolding on TV could wait. That was all just feeding the trolls, and the trans people doing it were essentially engaging in self-promotion. But now that we have an announcement, let the games begin!

This needs to be said second: Coming out as gay, lesbian, or bi can certainly be stressful and challenging, but transgender people face an extra layer of challenges because we often change our appearance, name and other fundamental ways we interact with others. If a trans person enjoyed any amount of pre-transition notability, the process is even more difficult. Arguably, no one as famous as Jenner has ever announced a gender transition, so there’s intense scrutiny not only from the press, but from the trans community concerned about what effects the announcement and upcoming reality show might have. Any trans people who think they can second-guess what Jenner should or shouldn’t do based on their own transitions under far less famous circumstances don’t know what they’re talking about.

It's a thoughtful piece and I highly suggest reading it in full. Again, no comment from me because I just don't feel as if I have a right to comment this time because I'm not transgender. And also because I know all too well what it's like to have people of privilege commenting on my life as a gay man. It's not fun, trust me.

Gay Hotelier Apologizes for Ted Cruz Dinner

I just posted about this yesterday, so all you have to do is scroll down a little on the blog. This is a follow up, which I didn't expect so soon. 

For those who don't feel like scrolling, Gay hotelier, Ian Reisner, issued an apology on his Facebook page after receiving backlash when it was discovered he hosted an event for anti-gay marriage advocate, Ted Cruz. As a result of the Ted Cruz event, Broadway Bares cancelled a fundraising event at a club Reisner owns, 42 West.

Here's the apology:

  
I am shaken to my bones by the e-mails, texts, postings and phone calls of the past few days. I made a terrible mistake. I was ignorant, naive and much too quick in accepting a request to co-host a dinner with Cruz at my home without taking the time to completely understand all of his positions on gay rights. I’ve spent the past 24 hours reviewing videos of Cruz’ statements on gay marriage and I am shocked and angry. I sincerely apologize for hurting the gay community and so many of our friends, family, allies, customers and employees. I will try my best to make up for my poor judgement. Again, I am deeply sorry.”

I'm not even sure what to say about that apology. But if you have to spend 24 hours reviewing Ted Cruz's record on gay marriage to fully understand where Ted Cruz stands, there's probably something wrong with you. For most people it would take five minutes.

Male Full Frontal Nudity in Films; Actors Who Have Done Full Frontal Nudity; Hot Man At Philly Art Museum

Male Full Frontal Nudity In Films

When I come across these things, I like to post them for other people who find male full frontal nudity in films appropriate at times, and also because some of us think it adds more to a film's story line. According to this site, it's all perfectly legal and done with consent.

Not to be completely weird, but do you ever feel like you’re constantly watching art house films and premium cable shows that show a lot of naked women, but nary a naked man? It’s probably because there still is a lingering stigma against presenting the male form in all its glory on film. That said, there are plenty of great films and television shows that feature famous actors (like Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and Viggo Mortensen) in full frontal nude scenes. In fact, many of these titles are so great that you should watch them anyway — the nudity is just a bonus! Oh, and you can stream all of them. It’s no big deal!

Actors Who Have Done Full Frontal Nudity

This is a fairly recent article, and that's the main reason why I'm linking to it now. Since I last posted anything about male actors who have done full frontal nudes scenes a few more have been added to the list. Ben Affleck for one. I'm always on the fence about him, and only because he's always so vocal about political things that I may or may not agree with. But as far as his films go I'll admit that I've rarely seen a Ben Affleck movie I didn't think was excellent. Or for that matter a Ben Affleck nude scene.

It seems that male nudity makes both women and men uncomfortable, but we barely bat an eyelash when we see naked women in films (or on TV). And it's no wonder we're desensitized to female nudity: it's practically a regular occurrence on the big screen, while we rarely get a chance to squirm in our seats at the sight of an undressed man. 

As usual, the comments are also worth reading. One woman really nailed it with this one:

Women like to see naked men on TV and are tired of having to watch naked women in every movie, especially if they are watching with their boyfriends . It really makes me upset that you just started the article out by generalizing women as a whole and your dead wrong .

It's hump day, so why not celebrate another hot man. This time it is 27 year old fitness model, Geoff Peirce, and it happened at the Philadelphia Art Museum, a place I'm familiar with because I live in what's considered the most northern part of the Philadelphia area...Bucks County. Only I didn't know about this:

Trevor Donovan and Texas Rising; John Carroll's Advice Column; Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Are Daddies

If you don't know much about Trevor Donovan, here's his web site. I've been posting about an upcoming mini-series on The History Channel he'll be starring in titled, Texas Rising. You can read more about TR here, where I've posted a few times. Donovan's web site is simple to navigate and if you're like me and you've been meaning to work on a new web site you might get a few ideas. I think his web site designer is mentioned there as well.

In any event, for those who don't know much about Texas history, here's a link I found fascinating. I've written a lot of novels set in Texas (the entire Glendora Hill series) and I've had to research a good deal of this already...plus, I had to contact friends on social media who live in Texas to find out little details, like climate and terrain.

I'm all for fun, sexy promotional marketing at any time, but I also think it should be balanced. Dolly Parton's big breasts helped make her famous, but her brilliance kept her famous. You can quote me on that. 



Texas Rising will be airing on May 25th, on The History Channel, and I'll probably be posting more about the Texas Rangers before then. The problem is that getting any information online isn't easy. In the US we tend to ignore history if Washington or Lincoln didn't sleep there.

Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen Are Daddies

I'll bet anything most of you think this is about Cooper and Cohen adopting a kid and living HEA. Well, so did I. I really did. I'm not joking about that. My first thought was, "How nice."

Evidently, I was wrong. This isn't about them becoming dads. This is about them being DADDIES...as in "Yes, Daddy, give me some more, Daddy." I know. But I didn't write this. I'm just linking to it.

Andy Cohen opens up about his close friendship with Anderson Cooper to Attitude magazine when asked if they’re a similar type of gay man. Cohen puts it simply: “We’re both daddies? We’re both silver guys? We are! He’s my good mate. We have a great time. He and I are going on tour together, starting this month, in Boston. We travel extensively together actually. We’re doing a speaking tour soon. But yes, we’re both daddies.”

CBS, Tony Perkins, Anti-Gay Leader; Are Bottoms More Promiscuous? Broadway Bares and Ted Cruz

Even the mainstream media is having trouble listening to Tony Perkins these days. So much so that they're referring to Tony Perkins as the Anti-Gay Leader, and the Family Research Council as a hate group. But what I find most interesting is that most Christians do NOT feel that Tony Perkins or the Family Research Council speaks for them.

“The Southern Poverty Law Center has branded the Family Research Council an anti-gay hate group,” Schieffer explained as if it were a warning to his viewers. “We have been inundated by people who say we should not even let you appear because they, in their view — quote — you don’t speak for Christians.” 

Perkins argued that the Supreme Court had no place deciding whether LGBT people deserved equal protection under the Constitution because “it does a disservice to both sides if the court weighs in on public policy like this.”

“The courts are decided [SIC] to interpret the Constitution and the constitutionality of laws, not to create public policy,” he opined. “When they do that, they create division and they erect barriers to reaching consensus on public policy like this. So no, we stand with millennia of experience that the union of a man and a woman — the sacred union of marriage — is the cornerstone of society.”

I've been waiting for this to happen, where the majority of Christians in the US start speaking up about how they feel so misrepresented by the far right in both the religious and political spectrum. And it's not a matter of free speech and silencing them. I truly believe that should be able to say what they want. It's just a matter of showing them the door.

Are Bottoms More Promiscuous?

I think this is the kind of thing that fascinates people, even if it is pure clickbait. Partly because it's rare to find a gay man willing to admit whether he's a full top or a full bottom, and partly because it sets up a pattern of sorts with all kinds of social ramifications.

“I’ve always believed that bottoms have more fun,” blogger Jerry Plaza writes in a new op-ed published by GayGuys.com. “We’re able to tease, please and squeeze our way into sexual situations necessary for us to be a part of. After all, if there isn’t a man willing to bend over backwards, penetration is out of the question.”

Plaza, a self-proclaimed “power bottom,” says that when it comes to red hot gay lovin’, bottoms hold most of the cards.

“Most of the time, bottoms don’t need to seek out sex,” he writes. “Guys are drawn to us like a moth to a flame. … Go to the dance club and see for yourself, or better yet change the preference on your Grindr or online dating profile to ‘Power Bottom’ and see how many more messages you receive.”

I'm sorry. I'm calling bullshit on this one. First, it's really not always easy to tell. In fact, it's almost impossible to tell unless the sloppy-ass bottom is so obnoxious about being a power bottom you would rather have nothing to do with him in the first place because he's so sleazy. Second, you can go to any gay club, hook up site, or cruising ground anywhere in the world and you're going to find nothing but bottoms looking for that one great top, which rarely ever happens. So if you look at this as a simple supply and demand situation, the top holds all the cards because he is in such high demand. Now tell me I'm wrong and make me smile.

I had a friend from Bosnia once who could sum all this up in four words: "They Are All Bottoms." That might be a little extreme, but it's not that far off either. And all of this falls under the title of, "It's Complicated." In other words, gay sex is not always all about anal sex. There are many gay men who don't like it at all.   

The comments...116 of them...seem to agree with me.  

Broadway Bares and Ted Cruz

I'm going to try to keep a convoluted situation as simple as I can right now.  

Republican Senator Ted Cruz is anti-gay marriage. Yet he's been linked to wealthy gay hotel owners in NY...these wealthy gays had an event for him at their NY apartment.  It's nothing sexual; it's people in power dealing with other people in power. Now the gay hotel owners are dealing with boycott threats because they are linked to Ted Cruz. I know, it sounds as if I'm making this up. I'm not.And it gets even worse.

Evidently, the gay hotel owners also own the club, 42 West, where Broadway Bares was supposed to be doing a fundraiser on May 10th. When it was disclosed there was a relationship/connection between the gay club owners and Ted Cruz, this transpired:

It is with regret that we have decided to cancel this year’s edition of the Broadway Bares Solo Strips fundraiser, which was scheduled for May 10 at the NYC club 42West. We cannot in good conscience hold an event at a venue whose owners have alienated our community, as reflected in an April 23 New York Times story and an April 24 follow-up post.

We do business with and accept fundraising support from a variety of people across a wide spectrum of political and religious affiliations. The rich diversity of our community makes what we do together so special. It is a rare instance where the actions of a donor negatively impacts us as an organization and potentially jeopardizes our relationship with others whose support is integral to our success. But when it does occur, in a way that’s blatantly against all we stand and work for, we can’t pretend it doesn’t come with consequences. Silence is not a neutral position. It is complicit.

This is not about partisan politics or punishment. This is about doing what’s right to ultimately ensure that our commitment to the men, women and children we serve cannot be questioned.”

I don't mean to diminish this in any way, and I support Broadway Bares completely with their decision to cancel, without hesitation. It's just that I've known this kind of politics, and these kinds of gay men before. So frankly, it doesn't surprise me that there would be extremely wealthy gay men having a supportive event for the likes of Ted Cruz and completely ignoring the gay marriage issue, or toning it down as if it means nothing at all. It is, in deed and action, complicit.

Guy With Two Penises Diphallia; Chubby Chaser "Fat Sex"; Tuc Watkins on Gay Hollywood Stereotypes

About a year or so ago I posted about a young bisexual guy who was born with two penises. It's a condition known as diphallia. He made his disclosure on Reddit with the name "Doubledickdude" and since then he's been writing a book. It's a memoir titled, Double Header: My Life With Two Penises, I've been following him in Twitter since last summer and I recently read a tweet about an interview he did with Rolling Stone.

I found the most interesting part of the interview to be where he discusses bisexuality. Finally, someone else with a voice is coming out and hitting the topic head on, so to speak.

Why did you decide to write a book?

There are still a few questions that come through that weren't asked before, and I realized that there are still people who are genuinely curious. From girls who want to know how to handle their boyfriend being uncircumcised to guys wanting to know if they're gay or bisexual because my equipment turned them on. Really, it just stuns me almost a year later that people are still reaching out to me. So I thought I should put a book together and use that to answer questions; but also give voice to people who might feel lost in the cracks. Even today bisexual people like myself are given more grief than you'd realize. We're still "confused" or "cowards," "too afraid to admit we're gay." Which is a load of crap.

Chubby Chaser "Fat Sex"

I normally wouldn't title a post that way because I think there are better words for overweight people. In fact, I don't like doing it. But the fact remains that there is a term in the gay community known as "chubby-chasing." Depending on who you talk to, it may or may not be a pejorative term. It's when guys who are the standard weights find guys who are overweight highly attractive in an erotic way.

Here's an article about a muscle guy who prefers, as they call it, "fat sex."

“‘Chubby chasing’ is as good as it gets,” muscle man Dan Oliverio explains in a new interview with the Huffington Post. “That contrast of body types in bed can be totally hot.”

At 6 feet and 225 pounds and with the ability to bench press 350, Oliverio is a fitness nut who could have his pick of men.

His preference? Chubby guys. In fact, the chubbier the better.

Tuc Watkins on Gay Hollywood Stereotypes

The main problem with this entire topic is that Hollywood knows how to make a lot of money with gay stereotypes, straight people find these stereotypes amusing, and there are far too many gay men willing to do anything to make a fast buck in Hollywood. Don't even doubt for a moment this isn't about money. No gay man I ever knew refused playing the clown and court jester for a chance to make millions and get his name in lights. I've even seen it in publishing. I actually write about it in an upcoming release titled, "Meadows Aren't Forever."

With that said, Tuc Watkins, an actor I posted about earlier this month who made strong comments about stereotypes on Modern Family is speaking up again on the topic. This time he's asking Hollywood to stop with the gay stereotypes. This comes after his comment about Modern Family and a huge show of support from many, many gay men. I saw it myself. The comments and friend requests on Facebook from gay men supporting him were unreal. I don't think I've seen a reaction like that anywhere else, and I think it's because so many gay men are afraid of speaking up on the topic. This is one area where we are still facing the worst discrimination there is. And I'm not even getting into the cultural appropriation issues here.

Stereotypes create judgements. When those judgements lead to bullying…or worse…we’ve got a problem. I don’t hear a lot of bullying around the ‘cranky old man,’ ‘neurotic wife,’ or ‘bumbling husband’ demographic.

What’s happening over at Modern Family is not blackface. Blackface is hateful. However, I do believe a stereotype is being perpetuated that can be harmful.

I do agree that Modern Family isn't blackface...not in the standard tradition. However, he's a little off base there. There is plenty of gayface being perpetuated these days and no one seems to think there's anything wrong with that. And, most of all, when the original blackface was considered "appropriate" it wasn't done with hate either. Everyone thought it was entertaining and at the time no one thought they were insulting black people. That realization didn't come about until years after blackface became racially insulting.

Living With Two Penises

This isn't the first time I've posted about men who live with two penises. It's a condition called diphallia and it's very rare. The first time I posted about it I mentioned a guy with diphallia who had gone public. He'd posted photos on social media and he is still, as far as I know, trying to make people aware of diphallia in a tasteful way. He even wrote a book about it that he indie pubbed. 

I'm posting about it now because I've been doing research on the topic for an upcoming book in The Rainbow Detective Agency series. One of the characters involved in the crime scenes has diphallia and I wanted to know about it and understand it so I didn't insult anyone who has diphallia.

Here's one place where I found a few interesting things:

"My life would never ever be the same again if I allowed my identity to be revealed," he tells Newsbeat. We agreed to keep his identity anonymous.

He says he doesn't want to become "a butt of a joke" and a "novelty". 

"If I wasn't going to have sex with you then you wouldn't know I had two [penises]. It's rare that anyone does know."

And this was exactly how I handled it in my book. I kept it quiet within the storyline of the book, and I hope I did that without any insults. Sensitivity was one of my goals. The other was to show how far someone will to go keep this a secret. It's a relevant part of the mystery.

Big Huge Penises That Get In the Way

During my research about diphallia, I earmarked a few articles about guys who live with extra large penises. Some were serious, others not so much. This is one that wasn't too serious. It's a list of 21 reasons that make having a large penis an issue sometimes.

When all of your friends ask to see it because dicks this size are fascinating to everyone.

When you're sitting at the table and someone accidentally kicks you and they're like, "Oh, sorry, did I just kick you? I thought that was the table," and you have to explain that they actually kicked your penis and that it did hurt because it's a penis.

Of course this is sarcasm, but I do remember this guy Tony and I knew at a local bar once. His claim to fame was his big dick, and people would ask him if they could see it all the time. He never showed it in public...at least I never saw it...but he didn't get too upset when they asked.

He Hates His Giant Dong

As I said, it's Friday in March and it's going to snow again today. And this huge penis story will leave you wondering about more than bad weather.

Here's a short excerpt:

The most immediate problems are anatomical. On a personal level, the circumference of my head while erect slightly exceeds the comfortable limits of my foreskin. That's most inconvenient when masturbating, as the skin gets pulled up and down on the head to varying degrees. During colder months, when my skin is dryer, I've masturbated my way to tiny lacerations around the edge of my foreskin.

During sexytime, I need to be on guard. A misdirected thrust can end congress for the night. Even just easing my entire penis into a vagina has caused the not-sexy kind of pain. I've also been told, without any preamble, that anal sex would never be on the menu. It wasn't a huge blow. But to my hung brothers with posterior proclivities, I sympathize.

That part about anal sex may or may not be accurate, at least with gay men. In fact, I've never heard a gay man say "it's too big, get out of here." And I'm not joking about that either. I'm sure in some cases there are gay men who've said that it's too big. It's just that I've never heard it personally...and never said it either.

Ryan Phillippe's Nude Scene

The other night I saw that I'd recorded Catch Hell on DVR, starring Ryan Phillippe. I'll admit that I don't follow Phillippe much and I don't know much about him, but according to what I've read he directed and wrote the film, too.

I liked it. I wouldn't call it Oscar material, but it was a good film for what it was and I thought it was a fast two hours. But more important, there was one of the most unlikely gay scenes I've ever seen in a movie. To be honest, I was kind of hoping it would happen, and it did happen. And if you want to take this to a deeper more meaningful level, I think it's something that could happen given the circumstances, the mentality of the characters, and the setting. I also do follow some celebrities on social media and I always find it interesting the way they travel around to do certain films on location.

And then there was the brief nude scene with Phillippe.

That being said, the subject matter appears to be quite dark based on these stills, so we'll just proceed without further comment. 

I'm not going into a full review, but I liked it and I would recommend it if you're looking for something different. It's one of those movies that don't get too much attention, but deserve more...think the opposite of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Fifty Shades of Dick

This, of course, is parody. It's a compilation of photos from movie scenes where there was male full frontal nudity or bulge. 

This is a compendium of the most important bulges and full-frontal peen that one can see in films that are available on Netflix and at their local Redbox. Some I knew, some my Jezebel colleagues helped me with, and some were complete and delightful surprises.

The biggest surprise was that this took me more than four hours to put together.

Jobriath First Openly Gay Pop Star

I honestly never really thought about who the first openly gay pop star was, and I still think there are some who might dispute this...you never know. However, this is what one article is claiming.

If you’re unfamiliar with the colorful, tragic story of cult entertainer Jobriath, you can’t be blamed. Before the glam rock performer arrived on the music scene with nearly unprecedented hype only to crash and burn almost immediately, he’d already lived a colorful life in which he’d been a child piano prodigy, appeared in Hair, gone AWOL from the military, arrested and confined to a psychiatric hospital. He was eventually signed to a lucrative contract and surrounded by incredible hype as the next big thing and, as a testament to the burgeoning sexual liberation of the era, he never attempted to conceal his sexual orientation.

Excuse the bad title of this part of the post, but I do these things for specific reasons. And this month I'm putting the e-book, The Women Who Love to Love Gay Romance, up for free on certain web sites. I'll leave it up for free from now until Valentine's Day. It's an interesting, naughty book, with interesting stories by some very excellent authors, and I first posted about doing this indie project almost one year ago. It took a long time to get this book executed from that post last January until the day I released it in September. And there's also a three-story trilogy in the book that I included because it had a New Adult feel to it.

2014 Publishing Predictions

I think this will probably be my last post about publishing predictions until 2015 unless someone really comes up with something spectacular that has the potential to disabuse a previous staple in publishing...like there will be no more print books produced after 2016, or something outrageous along those lines. And that's because most publishing predictions tend to repeat themselves and we all wind up either yawning or rolling our eyes thanks to self-indulgence and bloggers being too presumptuous sometimes. I'm guilty of doing this myself and I'm not pointing any fingers here either. But at least I know I'm guilty of this. Not all bloggers are that honest with themselves.

First, there are Joe Konrath's predictions for 2014. I've linked to them before but in case you missed them I'm doing it again because these predictions are more oriented toward indie publishing and authors who are all out there going it alone. And like him or not, there's a reason why Konrath has so many followers. You can get there from here.

Second, here's a list of 2014 predictions by blogger, Jane Litte, of Dearauthor I'm linking to because they tend to be more reader oriented. One prediction in particular is interesting at the end of the post. She suggests small digital first publishers will begin to either shutter completely or merge with other publishers, and that's something I've been wondering about for a while. When small digital first Loveyoudivine.com went out of business last summer I was left with thirty homeless e-books. I'd worked with LYD for many years and I didn't want to see those books just vanish forever. Thanks to the fact that I had already indie published several titles and I knew what I was doing I re-released all the LYD books through Ryan Field Press. In doing this I was able to price the books lower and sell more than I'd ever sold when they were up for sale at LYD. I think the fact that I released them in volume helped, too. Other authors I know have made the same claims to me in private. At one time small digital first publishers were only competing with themselves. But now they are competing with indie authors who can, and do, price lower, and big publishers who are now sensationalizing on all the things e-book pioneers have been doing for the past ten years. Basically, it is what it is, and I worry about small digital first publishers now more than ever.

Third, self-published author, Hugh C. Howey, wrote a post I enjoyed and even though this isn't so much a publishing prediction I think it's interesting because it talks about self-publishing and using the word "indie." Most predictions I've read, even though I'm not linking to everything right now, have mentioned they think "indie" authors will continue to rise, sales in "indie" books will continue to rise, and we'll all start referring to self-published authors as "indie" authors without even thinking twice about it. I remember just a few years ago that if you even suggested a self-pubbed author was an "indie" author comment threads would go wild. At this point, I don't think most people even care anymore it's become so common.

 The thread asked if we shouldn’t drop the “indie” label and just think of ourselves as authors. I’m going the other way. I use the word indie a lot, but I try to remember to use the word self-publishing. Why? Because I’m damn proud of what I do.

I agree with Howey. I use both terms here often and I also use self-publishing on purpose.

Fourth, this next article is titled, Nine places to look in 2014 to predict the future of publishing. This one is a little more complicated and if you're not that into publishing as a business you might want to just skim over it. But number six is interesting, where they discuss literary agents.

6. Literary agents have been dabbling with publishing for the past several years since ebooks and POD have made it possible to do it without inventory or an organization. Agencies have started publishing operations (E-Reads, Diversion, Rosetta) and many more have brought on the expertise to give authors help with digital services (Curtis Brown, Writer’s House). Publishers have expanded into author services with speaker’s bureaux, but, so far, none has thought to add literary agenting services except for the time-honored practices of selling rights (foreign, paperback, book club), which was part of their publishing process. Might a publisher either create or ally with a literary agency to create a way to “own” an author’s entire career? If one tried this in 2014, it wouldn’t come as a total surprise.

And that's about it for this year, at least from what I've seen.

My only prediction is that the Lambda Literary Foundation will finally see that by not allowing digital books to enter the Lambda Awards they are living in the dark ages and that there are, indeed, many excellent digital first only books out there that are just as legitimate as a tangible print book. I have a feeling I'm wrong about this prediction and it will take much longer for the LLF to recognize e-books. But we can hope.

James Franco; Doubledickdude

I don't know what it is about this guy, Doubledickdude, that brings out the artistic side in me, but since I posted about him last week I've found him on Twitter and on Facebook. And this next article gets into the more medically oriented explanations about the guy's condition.

A still-unidentified man with the medical condition, diphallia, has presented his package to the world with a few photos and let me just say this about that: it (or they) is mighty bizarre to look at (NSFW: Photo 1, Photo 2). And by gosh, I am no prude. But he seems to have a full-fledged wanger going left and another going right connected at the base. Note: the image is not for those who ever want to have a normal night’s sleep again. But also keep in mind that the distance from the image to steady Jay Leno fodder for weeks and maybe months to come (John and Lorena Bobbitt, anyone?) is quite short. As in non-existent. Ditto his cyber-name—the double-dicked dude. Ditto his claim of bisexuality which takes on new meaning and possibilities given the equipment.

What Is "Call-Out Culture" and Call-In Culture; Gay Adult Film Star Macanao Torres Dies At 35; The Rainbow Detective Agency by Ryan Field

What Is "Call-Out Culture" and Call-In Culture

A lot of people don't know about this so I figured I'd post a few things just to give a few basic examples. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of Call-Out Culture unless it's an absolute last resort. I've seen too much of this kind of thing online over the years with writers groups and it eventually becomes toxic. But I also believe that there are times when it works. Nothing is that definite anymore.

With the said, here's a basic definition from Wiki. I know you Wiki snobs will sneer, but I like truncated versions sometimes and Wiki always seems to be the best source for that.

Call-out culture (also known as outrage culture) is a form of public shaming that aims to hold individuals and groups accountable for their actions by calling attention to behavior that is perceived to be problematic, usually on social media

Now, here's something about what "Call-In" means. It's different than Call-Out Culture because some people believe it's not as toxic.

A call-in, on the other hand, is when you talk with someone privately about their behavior (or, you wait to talk in person), and is considered a less reactionary route to work through conflict, according to The Consent Crew.

Personally, I prefer the Call-In approach...for the most part. I think you can accomplish a lot more, and do it in a more civil manner. However, there are also times when the proverbial shit has to hit the proverbial fan, and that's when you need to them Call-Out, in public.

Gay Adult Film Star Macanao Torres Dies At 35

I always hate posting about things like this, partly because it's so sad and partly because it seems to happen so often in the adult entertainment industry. But there are extenuating circumstances with this story.

Macanao Torres, a Spanish gay adult performer who worked with numerous studios over the years, died by suicide at his home in Murcia, Spain on December 29. He was 35 years old.

James Franco's Orals; Doubdickdude's Video; President Obama on Joan Rivers

James Franco's Orals

Sorry, this isn't about James Franco and Gay oral sex. I wish it were, but it's not. But he would have taken advantage of that title so I figured why not do it myself.

The title is not completely misleading. James Franco did do orals this week, at Yale University. I don't have any links to give because the media seems to go dead when Franco actually does something that most people would think is worthy. Maybe there will be a few, but as of right now I didn't see anything.

But I did see this. It's a link to Franco's fracebook page where he's standing with a group of what I assume are professors, posting about passing his orals. It's one of his better images because it's real...no Beyoncé photo shopping deal there.

You see, this is the kind of thing that frustrates me most about Franco. He does five or six dumb things and gets all kind of attention for it...like shaving his head or getting a tattoo...and then he does something absolutely fantastic like this and he only promotes it on Facebook. I've done orals; they aren't easy.

Of course most of the comments on the status update are congratulatory, but some devolve into the smut you'd expect, mostly laced with gay slurs. But that's not Franco's fault. It is what it is.

Doubledickdude's Video

A while back I posted about a guy with two penises, Doubledickdude. He made headlines and seems to be popular on Twitter. I follow him on Twitter and today I saw this. Oddly enough, and I swear this happened by accident, the post I did previously on Doubledickdude also involved James Franco and an open letter by someone from the Village Voice.

And there's even an open letter in The Village Voice to James Franco about the guy with two penises.

Well, I guess the author of THAT piece was wrong in one respect. Doubledickdude is still around, and a lot of people find him interesting. I do. But that piece was from the Village Voice and they used be a lot edgier than they are now. In fact, the Village Voice was once the Grindr of yesteryear in hard copy, where you could hook up with anyone for any kind of sex. I'm not sure if they still do that. But that's what it used to be.

But I digress. Here's Doubledickdude's video. It is SFW. I'm not posting it here because Youtube is having issues sharing today. But I think it's interesting.

President Obama on Joan Rivers

A while back I also posted about a joke Joan Rivers made about the President and First Lady, with gay references. I can't find the link now, but it was a gay joke that sent some PC elite liberals into a tailspin, and I commented on it at the time. In any event, President Obama seems to have understood Joan Rivers' comedy and her brand of wit. So much that he wrote a letter to Melissa Rivers after Joan's death, in condolence.

During the TV special tonight entitled, Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan, the comedy icon's daughter will read a handwritten letter she received from President Obama after her mother's death.

Says Rivers in a preview clip: 'I received a letter from the White House from President Obama, someone who was often a target of her jokes, as was Mrs. Obama.'

She then goes on to read from the letter: ‘Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.’

 Rivers then shared her own observation: 'I think that's one of the things people now are realizing. It wasn't just the funny, she made us think.'

Review For A Guy With Two Penises; Homophobia; Ted Cruz, Iowa; #TweetLikeAWhitePerson; Pastor Comes Out, Remains Married To A Woman

Homophobia, Ted Cruz, Iowa

I find this interesting because, as I recall, Iowa was one of the first states to legalize same sex marriage. I don't have exact dates, but I do remember it was legal there before it was legal here in PA. I have an openly gay nephew living, and going to med school, in Iowa right now and I never heard him say anything about homophobia in Iowa.

In any event, here's an article that touches on how homophobia may have played a part in Ted Cruz's victory in Iowa this week. It's all conjecture,  so keep that in mind.

The success of Ted Cruz was in keeping with the suspension of political rules this campaign season. By all accounts, Cruz was on a downward slide in the weeks leading up to the caucuses. Ostensibly, the reason for Cruz’s decline was related to questions whether he was allowed to become president, since he was born in Canada. That feeble argument allowed the GOP establishment to pile onto Cruz, whom is universally loathed by party leaders. Meanwhile, support for Donald Trump — at least in polls — was growing.

I'm still not so sure the being born in Canada thing with Cruz is a feeble argument. I don't think any question about a political candidate is feeble. I remember being taught in school that you have to be a "natural" born citizen to become POTUS. "Natural" being the key word. And I'd like to see this matter put to rest for good so that if it ever comes up again it's not an issue.

There's a hashtag now, #TweetLikeAWhitePerson, that is allegedly focused on trying to "expose racism within the gay community."

We’ve all seem them. Racist Scruff and Grindr profiles that say things like “No Asians” or “No Blacks” followed by hollow disclaimers like “Just my preference!” or “No racism intended.”

We get it. You can’t always control who you are attracted to. But you can control what you write on your profiles, and singling out entire swaths of people based exclusively on their race is, by definition, racial prejudice, even if you insist it isn’t. Look it up.

You won't see me doing that on Twitter. And that's because I think the entire concept of #TweetLikeAWhitePerson is both racist in itself, and highly insulting. And I think it's time people started speaking up about all racism. I'm tired of racism. I hate racism in all forms. I think that's a racist hashtag that does more harm than good.

Pastor Comes Out, Remains Married To A Woman

I don't find this all that unusual, and I "get" what they're doing. A pastor in the Mennonite church came out as gay and he's staying married to his wife of 20 years.

Mennonites are mostly old-fashioned, which is a nice way of saying bigoted and intolerant.

But that seems to be changing. One renegade Mennonite church in Canada even married a gay couple in 2015.

As for Pieter and his wife Susie, the two plan to stay married despite the revelation.

I know m/f married couples where one or the other is gay and they've all been happily married for a long time. In fact, I had this conversation recently with a reader who e-mails me all the time about his closeted situation and his wife. It's an option that married couples can, and do, explore. Sometimes it works out.

Review For A Guy With Two Penises

Here's part of a 5 star review I noticed on Amazon, from a reader that I did not solicit, that made me smile. She got what I was doing and where I was going with this book. That makes it all worth while.

This book had me with the title; it must be one of the most bizarre to be found on the Kindle marketplace. I must admit, the title didn't really prepare me for the quality of the writing. I was expecting a bit of a comedy, and thought the quality of writing would be pretty average, but it was actually fast-paced, punchy, slick and insightful.I also loved the tongue-in-cheek comedy that appears throughout the book; the main character is called Proctor Gamble (I love it!).

I found this website by accident and thought I would share it with anyone who is interested. It's focused on films that lean more toward art and emotion, and there's a strong focus on male full-frontal nudity and the penis. It's a comprehensive list of films that isn't especially gay. But there is homoerotic content. 

Here's one short example. I haven't seen it but it sounds fascinating. 

This 11 minute homage to the male member shows its subject in the various stages of erection. The voice-over poem by James Broughton includes the line “This is the secret that will not stay hidden.”

And some of the films are even more mainstream, like "Kinsey." I remember that well.

One of the downfalls of having written many books is that it's hard to keep them all together. I have readers ask me about books all the time on social media, especially Twitter, and I'm often at a loss for words. So I've decided that I'm going to try to write an updated post about each individual book I've had published. I think it's interesting because now I can comment after the book had been reviewed and received. I have a few new titles coming out soon but I've put things on hold while I finish up working on a memoir. The memoir I won't indie publish. I'm going to shop that to an agent. And it no one wants it I won't have it published. So we'll see how that turns out. I know what to do with erotic romance and fiction, but I'm not so sure about a memoir of my own life. 

In any event, this book, for example, shocked me. I never thought it would get a decent review...or any review for that matter.

This book had me with the title; it must be one of the most bizarre to be found on the Kindle marketplace. I must admit, the title didn't really prepare me for the quality of the writing. I was expecting a bit of a comedy, and thought the quality of writing would be pretty average, but it was actually fast-paced, punchy, slick and insightful.I also loved the tongue-in-cheek comedy that appears throughout the book; the main character is called Proctor Gamble (I love it!).
