Harry Potter Film Ignores Gay Leading Man; Neo-Nazi Tells Court He's Bisexual; Another Kennedy, Again

Harry Potter Film Ignores Gay Leading Man

I'm surprised at Ms. Know-It-All, J. K. Rowling. I've never seen a Harry Potter film, and I never plan to see one. It's not my genre, and it never will be. So I'm only linking to this. I do, however, have one comment at the end.

When asked whether Dumbledore’s sexuality will be mentioned at all in the film, director David Yates said:

“Not explicitly. But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other’s ideas, and ideology and each other.”

Clearly, a lot of gay people are not happy about this. You can read the rest here.

You've seen me rant about THAT film, Call Me By Your Name. I ranted because that's a story about a 17 year old barely legal boy having a sexual relationship with an older man. It's the same dismal story line gay men get all the time in films. But even worse, they refer to Call Me By Your Name as a gay romance when it is anything but a gay romance. And now this, with Harry Potter. God forbid anyone should give gay people a good romance, or show kids a positive love story between two men.

As someone in the comments pointed out, at least Star Trek did it correctly.

Neo-Nazi Tells Court He's Bisexual

Here's a story about a guy who allegedly planned a "murderous attack" on gay people, but was stopped before he had the chance to do anything. And now he's denying it. It's very twisted.

Now Stables is denying he planned any sort of terroristic attack, telling the court he’s not homophobic at all.
He says he’d written the posts simply to get a rise out of friends, adding: “Actually I am bisexual.”
His attorney claims Stables has Asperger's syndrome.
Here's the rest. If nothing else, in general, I think it's a good example of why you should never, ever post anything on social media that's damaging or violent. Unfortunately, I see people do it all the time and frankly I'm surprised we aren't seeing more things like this in court.
Another Kennedy, Again
I'm sure Joe Kennedy III is a great guy, with tons of talent, and I hope he has a bright future in politics. I'm not knocking him. But as a registered Democrat all my life, I'd like to see something a little different for a change. It's like they just keep recycling that same strategy over and over, and no one new ever gets a chance.
The overall tenor of Kennedy’s speech was distinctly anti-Tr–p, and more than a few pundits agreed he was the wrong person to be making that argument.
You can check this out, here. He is cute. There's that.

Rose McGowan On Hollywood Hypocrisy; The Benham Brothers Homophobic Op-Ed; U of Wisconsin: Hotbed of Sex Misconduct

Rose McGowan On Hollywood Hypocrisy

All industries have their faults and nothing is perfect. But you have to search far and wide to find the kind of hypocrisy you'll find in Hollywood. One minute it's all smiles and that praying hand gesture, and then next they're stabbing someone in the back or sexually assaulting someone. Or pretending it doesn't happen in Hollywood. And no one ever hears the truth...until now.

Rose McGowan's name has been a staple in the news cycle since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke in October, but she says she actually trademarked what has become her #MeToo army, the Rose Army, three years ago.
During a two-part interview on ABC's Good Morning America that aired Tuesday, the actress told host Robin Roberts of her intention: "I wanted to see if I could make people — societally, including myself — 10 percent more awesome. The broader message is about thought and about looking at things. I realized, there are no lobbyists for critical thinking. There are no lobbyists for bravery."
The Benham Brothers Homophobic Op-Ed
The Benham brothers are at it again, and this time it's with an op-ed piece recently published.
The piece is titled, Mind-Blowing Plot To Sexually Confuse America's Little Ones, where the brothers go after the school board about confusing little kids sexually. They got upset when the school board decided to focus on diversity in a multicultural society.
We’ve said it for years, and we’ll say it again now: The radical LGBTQ-plus agenda has gone from acceptance, to appreciation, to celebration and now to forced participation. Our kids all will be forced to participate in this revolution one way or another – regardless of what parents feel about it. To say this is indoctrination is putting it lightly. It’s deliberately sowing seeds of sexual confusion into the fertile minds of future generations, and it will be difficult to uproot.
I don't understand why anyone would want to uproot equality or diversity, but you can read the rest, here. Maybe they need to evolve more.
U of Wisconsin: Hotbed of Sex Misconduct
Evidently, the University of Wisconsin is dealing with quite a few sex scandals. Here's one of them...
A male student from University of Wisconsin-Green Bay claims an instructor repeatedly contacted on Grindr asking for a hookup. Not only that, but the  instructor allegedly touched the student during class.
Sexual relations between professors and students are against the university’s policy. Not only that, but they can raise legal issues under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
There's more here. I don't know how to comment on this one, but there are a few interesting comments with this link.

Is Joe Kennedy III Dating A Trans Soldier? Police Break Up LGBTI Protest In Tunisia; Cher In Mama Mia Sequel; Diane Keaton Defends Woody Allen

Is Joe Kennedy III Dating A Trans Soldier?

This is fantastic. I hope it's true. I don't think they are actually dating in a romantic sense, but this article says that Joe Kennedy III is taking a trans soldier along as his date to the State of the Union event. Clearly, it's a political statement, and one that needs to be made.

On Tuesday (30 January), Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union as President of the United States.
Democratic Representative Joe Kennedy III from Massachusetts is bringing a trans soldier to the event. Army Staff Sgt. Patricia King is attending Trump’s speech.

Police Break Up LGBTI Protest In Tunisia
Here's more inequality from another part of the world.
Police officers in their civilian clothes broke up a demonstration by Tunisian LGBTI activists on Saturday, 27 January.
They were protesting to end the criminalization of sexual freedom.

Cher In Mama Mia Sequel
This Mama Mia sequel has been trending all weekend, and it's still going strong. I never actually saw the first movie, so it's all news to me.
But this time Cher is in it...
Cher nails the ABBA hit “Fernando,” and it is rumored she will sing and least one other song on the soundtrack.
You can read more, here, and check out the trailer.

Diane Keaton Defends Woody Allen
I find this interesting, especially in a year when Hollywood is so proud of the fact that one of its most celebrated films, Call Me By Your Name, has a story line where a 17 year old barely legal boy has a sexual relationship with an older guy...and it's being promoted as a gay romance.
I'm sure you all know the Woody Allen allegations by now.
Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him. It might be of interest to take a look at the ’60 Minute’ interview from 1992 and see what you think,” she tweeted, linking to the interview with Steve Kroft in which Allen discussed the allegations waged against him by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. Farrow has accused Allen of sexually assaulting her in 1992 when she was seven years old, though he has never been charged. Keaton has starred in a number of Allen’s films, including “Annie Hall,” “Interiors,” and “Manhattan.”

He's Going Gay Because No Sex From Wife; Fundraiser: A Liver To Live; Tackling Gay Anti-Asian Racism

He's Going Gay Because No Sex From Wife

When you read things like this, I hope you all know that it's not supposed to be taken seriously. At least I hope it's not.

It's actually one of those advice letter things, where this straight guy who's been married for a long time talks about how he's not getting sex from his wife so he's looking for it from older gay men.

He continues: “Lately I’ve taken to fantasizing about sex with anyone (male/ female/group) and have registered on a few sites that facilitate gay/bi/group profiles.”
“I’ve found that I have a growing fascination with older males. I feel myself drawn more to wanting to engage in sexual activity of this nature.”
Fundraiser: A Liver To Live
This is a great deal more serious than the link above. In fact, this is about as serious as it gets. A friend I've been following on social media for a long time asked me to share this. I think it's a good cause, so I'm sharing.
Just recently, Dawn went to the doctor for a nagging cough and slightly swollen feet and left the appointment in shock and with prescriptions for heavy antibiotics. “We don’t know the cause,” they said, “but your liver is shutting down.”  Once admitted to the hospital and after a myriad of test and a liver biopsy, our fears were confirmed. Dawn is now being transferred to the Mayo Clinic and will be placed on the list for a liver transplant. The cause - viral, bacterial, environmental or autoimmune - we still don’t know.  What we do know, is that she needs a new liver. Quite frankly, she needs a liver to live.
You can read the rest here, and you can donate, too.
Tackling Gay Anti-Asian Racism
This has been an ongoing issue in the gay community for a while now, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Sometimes it causes an explosion on comment threads.
There's a web series I haven't seen yet titled, I'm Fine, where the story line revolves around gay men living in Los Angeles. This week they got into the subject of anti-Asian racism. I've seen this kind of racism myself many times.
“Brandon and I got to talking about where Jeff’s story was heading,” Doud explains. “I told him I really wanted to address Jeff’s/my race.”
“I’m half Chinese and half Caucasian, and not only are Asian-Americans wildly underrepresented in film and TV but I also believe Asian-American men are desexualized in media.”
Here's more. LGBTQ people, in general, are underrepresented in film, TV, AND books. And when the are mentioned they are usually misrepresented and appropriated. It's an interesting article, and looks like an interesting TV show.

Footballer Comes Out On Camera, Pay Attention Hollywood; A Course On Toxic Masculinity Gets Backlash; Gay Porn Star Trump Supporters FraternityX

Footballer Comes Out On Camera, Pay Attention Hollywood

I almost posted something else about THAT movie that's constantly being referred to as a gay romance, but I won't. I'm so sick of reading about that BS I don't even want to see the title of THAT film again. So here's something positive, and current, about one decent gay man who is trying to make a huge difference. I think we need to see more of this sort of thing, and a lot less of that antiquated Hollywood nonsense.

Richie Anderson is a BBC reporter and grassroots football player from the UK. He’s been working on a story about homophobia in his sport.
Last weekend, Anderson decided to come out to his teammates as part of his project. The guys knew he was working on a program about grassroots football. But they had no idea it was going to have a gay angle.
Here's more. Now that's what I'd like to see in a movie, not a tired old cliche where a barely legal 17 year old boy who has sex with an older predator, Hollywood.

A Course On Toxic Masculinity Gets Backlash

When I wrote Kendle's Fire I purposely set out to question masculinity and the way society expects men to act, react, and behave. It's fiction and I wanted to keep it simple, because there are set standards for men. If you just look at the surface, men have been stifled in so many ways by the restrictions that society has placed on them it's kind of interesting to see people defend it. Two women could dance together and no one would care. But if two straight men dance together it's either odd or laughable...or somehow shameful and diminishing. So while men might have a good deal of privilege, they've also been paying a price for it for years. And in many cases it's women who will be the first ones to dictate what men should or shouldn't do.

In any event, I wrote about this topic in my novel, Kendle's Fire, and I think it's resonated with a few people. But this article explores something similar with regard to something called toxic masculinity. And I'm really not too far left or far right on this topic. But I do think that men have had restrictions placed upon them by society that haven't always been fair...or easy...including gay men.

Branfman teaches gender studies at the Ohio State University. This semester, he is teaching a class titled ‘Be a Man! Masculinities, Race and Nation.’ The course explores different types of masculinity and how certain varieties of it (known as toxic masculinity) can be harmful to men, women, and those in between.

There's more here. It sounds like an interesting course. The article talks about the class itself, with respect to gender and masculinity, and also talks about the backlash it's been getting from ultra conservatives. And that's kind of interesting in itself because it's the ultra conservative men who've been held back the most by these masculinity rules of society. And they don't even seem to know it.

Here's a very short excerpt from Kendle's Fire. I think it's a topic we're going to be hearing a lot more about.

Then he gazed into the mirror and turned sideways. One of the things he did want to do was break down the stereotypes that had always been forced upon him as a man. He wanted to show them all that men could be sexy in different ways, too, without trying too hard to promote the cliché of masculinity men had always known.

Gay Porn Star Trump Supporters FraternityX

As most articles tend to be in LGBT publications, this article is more of an opinion piece...or commentary...on how they feel about gay people in the porn industry who support Donald Trump. It's NSFW, and they make some very strong statements.

This cringeworthy scene from FraternityX, a gay porn site, features men in Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats yelling ‘Trump and Pump’ while gangbanging a bisexual ‘resistor.’

Here's the rest. Now, when you take into consideration that this is just porn, I'm not sure it's worthy of any further examination. Seriously. It's porn. I don't think it was intended to be taken seriously. But it is amusing and the guys are hot.

James Franco Erased From Vanity Fair Cover; A Silly Penis Game; TV's First Series About A Gay Deaf Man

James Franco Erased From Vanity Fair Cover

It seems as though James Franco is still getting slammed over the sexual misconduct allegations.

Franco participated in the magazine’s interview and portrait session by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, but he was digitally erased after that damning Los Angeles Times’ report detailing five women’s allegations of sexually inappropriate or exploitative behavior.

You can check this out, here. I think the key word here is allegation, because nothing's been proven yet...as far as I know. Check out the comments with this one.

It's interesting to note that while James Franco is getting slammed over allegations, many people are celebrating a movie titled Call Me By Your Name with a barely legal 17 year old boy who is having sex with an older man. But maybe I'm the only one who sees the irony in that.

A Silly Penis Game

This is unusual. It's about penises fighting each other and some people are raving about it.

But one game has flipped that script in a way that no other game has ever dared to. The ridiculous comedy game Genital Jousting by Freelives makes the cockfighting literal, and in the process, creates one of the most cathartic, challenging, provocative, and liberating play experiences in recent memory.

Here's the rest.

TV's First Series About A Gay Deaf Man

It looks as if this could be good. I hope so anyway. If nothing else, it sounds authentic. And compared to what we usually see on TV about gay people, that's a novelty in itself.

Josh Feldman is a queer actor, writer, and producer from Los Angeles. He also happens to be deaf. His new series This Close follows two deaf friends as they navigate through their late 20s and early 30s.

There's a lot more here. It will be on the Sundance channel in February. I usually enjoy what they do over there. I also dated someone who was deaf once, too. A very nice guy.
