3 Trans Women Sue Pennsylvania; Philippines President Jokes About Gay Cure

3 Trans Women Sue Pennsylvania

Here’s a story I think we’ll be seeing more often, at least  until laws are changed.

A group of Pennsylvania-based transgender women have filed a lawsuit over a statute that forces them to use their birth names.

There’s more here.

Philippines President Jokes About Gay Cure

Apparently, the President of the Philippines thinks it’s funny to joke about the ‘gay cure,’ which of course does not exist.

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte joked he used to be gay, but has since ‘cured’ himself.

Here’s more.  The most interesting thing is that people who joke about things like this don't even think they did anything wrong. Not a clue.

Anti-Trans Athlete Martina Navratilova Hosts Documentary On Trans Athletes; Should He Tell Co-Worker Her Teen Son Is In Gay Porn; Ryan Field Books

Anti-Trans Athlete Martina Navratilova Hosts Documentary On Trans Athletes

This just keeps happening time and again, and up until now no one ever said anything about it. It's an article about how the outspoken anti-trans athlete, Martina Navratilova, will be hosting a documentary on trans athletes. I don't understand why they can't have someone objective do things like this. I'm not opposed to listening to facts or civil discussion, but frankly I'm sick and tired of opinions. Navratilova is on record with regard to how she feels about trans women competing in sports.

However, in February, Navratilova published a very anti-trans op-ed in the UK paper The Sunday Times where she repeatedly (and incorrectly) called transgender women “men,” and also said that allowing trans women to compete with other women was “insane” and likened it to “cheating.”

You can check the rest out here.   I won't be watching this documentary.

Should He Tell Co-Worker Her Teen Son Is In Gay Porn

Here's one of those questions that popped up in the advice column, Dear Prudence. Some 38 year old guy who's obviously into much younger guys spotted his co-worker's 18 year old son doing gay porn and now he wants to know if he should tell her what her son is doing.

I always tipped generously whenever I saw his show. He didn’t show his face, but his bio mentioned that he’s a high school senior who lives in the same metropolitan area as me and likes daddies….

Here's more. It goes into some more detail, and the reply from Dear Prudence is pretty spot on. And don't miss the comments.

I say mind your own business.

What Straight People Don't Know About Pride; The Rocketman Director, Dexter Fletcher, Thinks He Can Do a Madonna Biopic

What Straight People Don't Know About Pride

I see all kinds of misconceptions this time of year about Pride and Pride related events. I see a lot of non-gay people exploiting Pride for their own monetary gain, too. This article to which I'm linking talks more about the way non-gay people behave at Pride events and even in gay bars. I think it's a bit extreme at times, and I don't totally agree with everything. However, they do make a few interesting points.

Lots of straight women have told me that they love going to gay bars because they can dance and celebrate without the presence of come-ons from men. I’ve seen drunken sorority girls climb on stage and attempt to make the show about them. I’ve seen women get a bit too intoxicated and attempt to make out or grope gay men slurring “You’re gay so it doesn’t count…”

Here's the link. I'd like to add that non-gay people...men or women...should never assume they know everything about gay men because of what they've seen on Will and Grace, or what they've been told by Hollywood.

The Rocketman Director, Dexter Fletcher, Thinks He Could Do a Madonna Biopic

This is rich. The dude who took over directing Bohemian Rhapsody, and who directed Rocketman, Dexter Fletcher, now says he would love to do another film about the life and times of Madonna. I'm not joking. For those who don't know, Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman proudly promote straight actors playing gay face.

However, as the article points out, Madonna is still very much alive, still very much in control of her own identity, and she's still highly vocal about her own life story.

“Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.”

I'm with Madonna on this one.

Review: Netflix's LGBT Horror Film "The Perfection" and Misogyny; The Boy Band Project's Brand New Single; Ryan Field Books

Netflix's LGBT Horror Film The Perfection and Misogyny

I haven't seen The Perfection yet so I can't comment, but I haven't been too impressed by anything from Netflix...in general...lately. I actually dread going through the list of what's available. It takes forever just to browse, and could they make the plot descriptions anymore idiotic? Who writes these plot descriptions? Toddlers?  I've been writing fiction for many years and one of the things authors take seriously is giving good short book descriptions so readers know what they are getting. I know authors who spend weeks working on book descriptions. People take this seriously. Netflix falls very short in that department alone.

Netflix released one of its many original films on Friday (24 May). The Perfection, a female-led horror film, falls under the LGBTI movies category. The problem is — it’s not actually an LGBTI film, and its imagined feminist edge is, instead, misogynistic and tired.

Here's the link. It's a pretty long and articulate review. I don't think they realize over at Netflix they have competition now. We're not a captive audience anymore.

The Boy Band Project

This is both entertaining and nostalgic. It's about a group of guys called The Boy Band Project, and they've just released a new single.

It’s a little bit of NSYNC, 98 Degrees, and Backstreet Boys all rolled into one, with a little Jonas Brothers and One Direction thrown in for good measure.

Here's the link, and there's a video. I love this part of the story: they shot the video at the well known gym, Muscle Beach, in P'town.

Aaron Schock's Leaked Clothes-Free Selfies; World Health Organization Removes Transgender As Mental Health Disorder; Ryan Field Books

Aaron Schock's Leaked Clothes-Free Selfies

It looks as if they're still going after Aaron Schock, and I honestly don't see the fascination. A certain segment in the gay media simply cannot get enough Aaron Schock news. This time it's about recently leaked selfies.

According to this link...

Aaron Schock’s public outing continues this morning with a series of clothes-free sexts courtesy of the site Kenneth in the 212.  We assume it’s safe to say that his political career is pretty much toast, more for his shady financial dealings and hypocrisy than his shedding of clothes.

There are comments. The article gets into more back story.

World Health Organization Removes Transgender As Mental Health Disorder

It's about time this happened. It's long overdue. This really is something for trans people, and those of us who have been supporting trans people for years, to celebrate.

The WHO’s removal of ‘gender identity disorder’ from its diagnostic manual will have a liberating effect on transgender people worldwide,’ said Graeme Reid, LGBT rights director at Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Britten-Pears Foundation Won't Erase Gay History; Xavier Dolan Is Tired of the Label "Gay" Ryan Field Books

Britten-Pears Foundation Won't Erase Gay History

The Britten-Pears foundation is merging with Snape Maltings. As a result, they wanted to change the name to The Benjamin Britten Foundation. Benjamin Britten was a well known composer/musician in the UK who had a lifelong partner, a tenor named Peter Pears. If the name change had happened it would have meant erasing their lifelong same sex relationship, not to mention erasing Pears altogether. Thanks to an online petition, the name will remain the same.

Both our boards have been reviewing the feedback we have received about the name, and it has been agreed that we will retain the names of both Britten and Pears.

Here's the rest. There's a photo of Britten and Pears.

Filmmaker Xavier Dolan Is Tired of the Label Gay

This one is interesting because it really doesn't make much sense. This film producer, Xavier Dolan, isn't thrilled with having his films labeled as "Gay" because no one ever labels heteronormative films as "Heterosexual."

Dolan continued: “We never talk about heterosexual films. ‘Oh, I saw this great heterosexual love story!’ For me, it’s not a story of homosexuality or gay love. Ultimately, I don’t think that the two protagonists are aware that it is gay love. It’s love.”

This reminds me of when straight conservatives say they want a "Straight Pride Day" so they can celebrate being straight. The only thing they fail to realize is that EVERY day is Straight Pride Day. Just as almost every film out there in the mainstream IS "Heterosexual."

Seriously.

There's no need to state the obvious, dude.

Stop complaining about the label "Gay" and own it.

Here's the rest. There are comments. I will look for his "Gay" films myself and check them out.

Ian McKellen's 79th Birthday At Berlin Sex Club; Support for Gay Rights in Russia Reaches All Time High; Laws That Criminalize Gay Sex In Kenya; Ryan Field Books

Ian McKellen's 80th Birthday At Berlin Sex Club

Who doesn't love Ian McKellen? I don't know anyone.

The man we all aspire to be when we’re older, Sir Ian McKellen, turns 80–80!–today and to celebrate, some of his closest friends are sharing their fondest memories of the beloved Hollywood icon.

You can check this out, here. There are some great photos as well. I would love to see another classic McKellen film along the lines of Gods and Monsters

Support for Gay Rights in Russia Reaches All Time High

On the global front, it looks as though public opinion in Russia is following the same path of the US with regard to LGBT rights. According to a new poll, there's a 14 year high in support for LGBT rights.

Nearly half of Russians are supportive of equal rights for the gay community, a new poll has found.

Read more, here. It goes into a good deal more detail about that gay propaganda law, and about how Russia hasn't been all that great recently with LGBT rights.

Laws That Criminalize Gay Sex In Kenya

Unfortunately, things just keep getting worse for LGBT people in places like Kenya. Kenya's high court just decided to uphold ancient, backward colonial-era laws that were designed to criminalize gay sex and punish gay people simply for being who they are.

"We cannot be another Sodom and Gomorrah," Catholic bishop Alfred Rotich told Reuters at the courthouse, as proponents held signs saying "homosexuality is an abomination."

Here's the link. Of course there's a lot more detail and activists intend to appeal this ruling. I just think it's hard to believe that there are still backward places in this world where they still think we are criminals. And I feel very bad for the LGBT people who live there.
