Tammy Faye Bakker As a Gay Icon?
First, I always like to make the distinction that this does not include all gay men. I don't have icons. I don't like Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, or Barbra Streisand. In fact, I don't even know WTF a gay icon is. I find the entire concept annoying. The whole idea of a gay icon is a stereotype that is just as bad as any stereotype with any other marginalized group. And I wish they would stop doing it.
With that said, they are now claiming that Tammy Faye Bakker was a so-called "gay icon."
And I'm sure she was with some gay men. And good for them. BUT not ALL gay men.
With her wildly over-the-top makeup and garish animal-print ensembles, a penchant for singing Christian disco anthems despite her lack of voice training, and a sense of childlike wonder with which she preached her gospel, she made for compelling TV viewing.
Here's more. This is also a promotion for a new movie about the life of Tammy Faye Bakker.

"A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he'll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who's husband died last year. I enjoyed this story."
