An Extremely Masculine Gay Bottom; Gay Widower Denied Marriage Benefits; Trump and Trans Military Ban

An Extremely Masculine Gay Bottom

I know that the headline above sounds like an oxymoron, but it is a reality in some cases, with some gay bottoms. And it shows how some stereotypes are not always accurate.

Stereotypes ruin the party again. One guy says he has a problem keeping men’s attention as a black, “extremely masc” bottom because he doesn’t conform to perceptions of what bottoms should look and act like.

Here's more. You'll love the comments.

Gay Widower Denied Marriage Benefits

This one is tricky and you have to read the whole thing.

The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) has a policy that says a spouse must be married to their partner for at least nine months before they’re eligible to receive a deceased partner’s survivor benefits.
That’s not a problem for most couples, but it is for Michael Ely, a 65-year-old gay Arizona resident. He was denied SSA survivor benefits when his husband of six months died of cancer in 2015.
Here's the link. They explain in more detail why Ely is looking for justice, and that he's not looking for special treatment. I hope he wins his case.

Trump and Trans Military Ban

Here's something we'll have to keep watching in December. From what this says, Trump is bypassing the normal legal process by going directly to the Supreme Court.

Donald Trump and his administration directly asked the Supreme Court on Friday (23 November) to rule on their proposed transgender military ban.

You can read it all here. It goes into a lot more detail. There have been a lot of misleading headlines on this story, so be prudent with what you read.

Here's another article about it from a mainstream publication.  It's being considered highly irregular.

Real World Danny Roberts Comes Out As HIV Positive; Taron Egerton Thinks Kevin Spacey Is a Flirt; 57% LGBT Candidates Won Mid-Terms

Real World Danny Roberts Comes Out As HIV Positive

People like Danny Roberts set a good example for everyone.

On the eve of World AIDS Day, the retired reality star just revealed that he’s living with HIV in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Check out the link here.

Taron Egerton Thinks Kevin Spacey Is a Flirt

I just posted about straight actor, Taron Egerton, playing gay face. And now there's this.

Taron Egerton, who just debunked his rumored coming-out with the whole “I’m just secure in my sexuality” refrain, is now making controversial comments on Kevin Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct.

Here's the rest. The comments are...well...interesting. But I don't think the #MeToo Movement would appreciate them.

57% LGBT Candidates Won Mid-Terms

This is definitely a positive sign that the world, indeed, is changing.

As final results from the United States’ midterm election races rolled in over recent weeks, it became clear: there was, in fact, a rainbow wave.

Here's the link.

San Diego Pride On Thanksgiving; Coming Out As Gay On Thanksgiving; Gay Thanksgiving Gives Sense of Community

San Diego Pride On Thanksgiving

Here's some gay Thanksgiving news. For those of you who don't think some gay people have it more difficult during the holidays, you might want to read this in full.

While I know all too well the hardship that the holidays can bring to our community, I’m also grateful for our resilience. It is a thing of beauty to watch our community come together in support, as we always do, with innovative approaches to friendship, family, and love.

Here's a link.

Coming Out As Gay On Thanksgiving

This seems to be a popular topic this year. This article talks about 16 ways to come out to your family on Thanksgiving.

But telling people you’re gay is a deeply personal process that’s different for everyone. There’s no set method or time. You may not be ready to spill the tea for all of Facebook or share your experience in a deeply moving art piece, and that’s okay! Maybe you aren’t the showy type.

You can check this out, here.

Gay Thanksgiving Gives Sense of Community

Here's a nice story about an excellent tradition at the University of Maine.

Wilde Stein, the University of Maine’s Queer-Straight Alliance, is celebrating its 45th year on campus. Every year, the group contributes time and hard work to provide a Thanksgiving meal for the LGBTQ community to share together. Wilde Stein started as a small student group and is one of the oldest queer-straight alliances in the country. Shortly after its inception, the group saw the need for an event where students could gather and enjoy Thanksgiving, especially if they weren’t being accepted at home.

You can read it all, here.  I know a lot of gay people who only celebrate with their gay friends because many of them aren't welcome with family. Yes, that still does happen. So gay people celebrate with their extended gay families.

Amazon Streaming TV: Gay Movies Better Than Netflix; Adam Rippon Retires From Skating; Straight Taron Egerton On His Sexuality

Amazon Streaming TV: Gay Movies

Even though I've watched a few TV shows through Amazon...and loved them...I never had a chance to check out the gay content. I did that this week, finally, and it's very impressive. It's much better than Netflix as far as quantity goes. In fact, there are so many titles it's hard to choose which one you want to watch. And almost all have a trailer that you can check out first.

Last night I streamed a gay movie titled, Steel. Here's the description on IMDb. I don't like to review these things because they are so subjective, and I don't want to be that amateur online reviewer who simply gives a basic plot description and pretends to know better. I liked Steel, and I would recommend it.

Strong emotions - fear and panic, self-search and isolation, love and sex, self-denial and self-discovery - a ride on an emotional roller coaster while trying to find one's way into life.

Here's the IMDb link, to Steel, and if you haven't watched Amazon streaming TV, you might want to check out the gay content. As I said, it's much better than Netflix. And it's real gay content. Not gay content told through the POV of someone who is straight and has gay friends.

Adam Rippon Retires From Skating

I follow Rippon on Twitter and I usually like everything he Tweets. He's funny, too, and no pretense. He has a nice sense of humor.

He recently announced he's retiring from skating, and then showed the world a letter he wrote to himself years ago.

“You are going through a really tough time right now. You’ve just missed qualifying for the Olympic team for the second time in a row. You feel confused and you feel like a failure. It might not make sense right now, but this is truly one of the most important moments in your life,” he wrote.

You can read the entire letter here.  It's very good.

Straight Taron Egerton On His Sexuality

Apparently, Taron Egerton is the guy who's playing the role of Elton John in Rocketman. And now he's talking about his own sexuality. There's been speculation about whether he's gay or not.

I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are.’

Well, they always have gay friends, and they let you know it.

Here's the link. He also makes a few comments about Kevin Spacey. It's interesting to note they didn't hire a US actor to play the part of Elton John. That might not have been believable.

Straight Actor Alex Landi On Grey's Anatomy Is Playing Gayface; Chinese Erotic Author Jailed For Ten Years For Writing Gay Sex; 368 Trans People Killed This Year;

Straight Actor Alex Landi On Grey's Anatomy Is Playing Gayface
Here's another story about a straight actor who's playing gayface. And this time he's telling gay Asian men how he's going to give them a voice and make things better for them.
In a recent interview with Travis Mills on Beats 1 at Apple Music, Landi, who identifies as straight, says the importance of a gay Asian character being portrayed on prime time network TV is not lost on him.
“I’m just glad that I can give everyone a voice,” Landi says. “Asians are represented, I think, by less than 3 percent in entertainment, LGBTQ being less than 1 percent, so for them to combine both of those categories into one role is super special, and I’m so happy that I can take that on.”
Could you imagine what might happen if Meryl Streep took on the role of a black woman, called it super special, and then promised to give black women a voice? The Internet would explode.
Here's the rest. I'm not even going to comment. But several people did below the article.
Side note: There's also an interesting story about Grey's Anatomy and homophobia that I covered a while ago, back in 2013. The original story dates back to 2009.

Chinese Erotic Author Jailed For Ten Years For Writing Gay Sex

Well, this one hits close to home for me. But it's hard to get all the details to this story, so I'm not going to speculate.

Chinese authorities sentenced an erotic author to 10 years in prison for writing and selling a novel featuring gay sex scenes.
Liu – better known by her alias Tian Yi – wrote Occupation, a story about a forbidden love affair between a male teacher and his male student.
Here's the link. The author is a woman writing fiction about gay men.
Here's another link about the same story.

368 Trans People Killed This Year
This really bothers me.
Trans people have been beheaded, gunned down and stoned to death, according to a new report.
It highlights the 368 trans, non-binary and gender-variant people, at least, who were murdered in the 12 months from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018.
Here's more. The article goes on to talk more about numbers, and to remember trans people who've been murdered. It's just heart wrenching to read.

Prince Harry's HIV Message To You; Openly Bi Walking Dead Actress Loses Queer Role; Closeted Pharmacist and Murdered Wife New Details

Prince Harry's HIV Message To You

They have a National HIV Testing Week in the UK, and Prince Harry recently made a statement encouraging more people to get tested.

We can be the generation to finally bring an end to HIV,’ Prince Harry said in the video message.
The Duke of Sussex explained HIV diagnoses have dropped by 28% in the last year in the UK. This is an encouraging result, but there is still a lot to do in order to stop HIV.

Here's the link. I agree with him. Just get tested. HIV isn't a death sentence anymore.

Openly Bi Walking Dead Actress Loses Queer Role

Here's another story about an openly bi actress losing a queer role. And people think it's just about "acting."

‘So…I was just informed that I was not cast in a role on a show because I wasn’t seen as “Authentically LGBTQ” enough,’ the actress said.
After picking up her ‘jaw off the floor’, Venskus said she is tired ‘with this Hollywood stereotype of LGBTI’.
‘What does that even mean to be “Authentic LGBTI”? Do I not look the part to you? What does the “part” of LGBTI look like to you Hollywood if actual LGTBI people can’t even be seen as “Authentic.”‘

Here's the rest. I'm glad they're speaking up about these things now. And it's not just Hollywood. It happens all the time in publishing, too.

Closeted Pharmacist and Murdered Wife New Details

Here's a follow up on the closeted pharmacist who allegedly murdered his wife. They go into a lot more detail with this one.

They quickly learned that Patel he had been cheating on his wife with multiple guys he met on Grindr. At first, they thought that may have been his motivation for murdering her.

You can read it, here.  Very sad story.

Gay Men Who Hate Anal Sex; More On "White Gays"; San Francisco City Hall Lit In Trans Colors

Gay Men Who Hate Anal Sex

It always amuses me when straight people think that all gay men want (and like) anal sex. It's just something they simply assume. The same way they all think being gay is only about sex.

In fact, in a study of men who have sex with men — a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in 2011 — less than 40 percent of respondents had engaged in anal intercourse during their last sexual event.

Of course this will all fall on deaf ears, and people will still make jokes about gay men and anal sex. But at least we're starting to get this out there.

Here's the link.

More On "White Gays"

This keeps coming up lately.

There’s been a lot of talk about intersectionality lately. More and more people, especially those in the LGBTQ community, are speaking up about forms of discrimination that overlap or intersect and what can be done to stop it from happening.

You can read more, here. They also mention, thankfully, there's a difference between being white and gay, and being a "White Gay."

San Francisco City Hall Lit In Trans Colors

Here's something positive for a change.

San Francisco’s City Hall donned a striking blue, pink, and white color scheme in honor ofTransgender Awareness Week.

Here's the rest. There's a photo, too.
