LGBTI Displays Banned From Utah Libraries; Kevin Spacey's Film Makes $126.00

LGBTI Displays Banned From Utah Libraries

This is happening in Washington County, Utah. I don't think it's the entire state of Utah; just one county.

The controversy started during Pride month. Library employee Ammon Treasure was asked to remove his ‘LGBTQ Reads’ button. In 2017, the library also faced criticism for having a LGBTI display during Pride month. Employees were asked to ‘never do another LGBTQ display again.’

You can check this out, here. It's a very interesting article that goes into a lot more detail and I highly suggest reading it in full.

Kevin Spacey's Film Makes $126.00

I don't think this will come as a surprise to most people.

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey’s latest movie Billionaire Boys Club – filmed before multiple sexual misconduct allegations were made against him – has grossed just $126 (£98) on its opening night at the US box office.

Here's the rest.

Mark Wahlberg Touching Himself; Sex-Starved Employee Puts Camera In Men's Room; Gay Tennis Player Heard Homophobia All the Time

Mark Whalberg Touching Himself

I remember these ads of Whalberg touching himself. At the time he was very young. There was one ad right in the middle of Time Square and it was hard to walk down the street without looking up and tripping over something.

Who could forget Mark Whalberg’s famed ’90s crotch-grab down the runway (and on the above poster) in his Calvins?
Well, thanks to the almighty power of Google and YouTube, nobody.
Whalberg is now 47 years old now, and he recently repeated the famous image, where he grabs a nice handful of his 47 year old junk.
Sex-Starved Employee Puts Camera In Men's Room
This is pretty creepy.
A hair stylist for the fashion retailer ASOS pled guilty to voyeurism after planting a camera in the men’s bathroom at a summer work party.
Dominic Hendy, 28, said he placed the camera there due to being ‘sex-starved’.
Here's more. They go into a longer explanation about why he did this.

Gay Tennis Player Heard Homophobia All the Time
Here's a piece about tennis player, Brian Vahaly.
"I heard homophobic comments all the time in the locker room - to my face, behind my back. That was just a part of the culture."
You can read it, here. It's a very thorough piece with a lot more detail about what it was like for Vahaly. And it's still like this for other gay men in all walks of life.

Safe Sex Guide Refers To Vagina As Front Hole; Drag Culture TV On Netflix; California Has An Official LGBT Veterans Memorial Now

Safe Sex Guide Refers To Vagina As Front Hole

This is something new, and frankly I think we'll be seeing more things like this in the future. I look at these things as a writer, and I find it interesting how words evolve over the course of time. Just look at the word Gay and the way that's evolved.

A new LGBTQIA safe sex guide was published recently and it includes the term ‘front hole’ as an alternative for the word ‘vagina’.
Groups like Heathline, GLSEN, and Advocates for Youth all shared the report on their websites.
Here's the link. It goes into more detail, and it mentions that the alternative word for breastfeeding should be chestfeeding. But not everyone is happy about this.

Drag Culture TV On Netflix

If you're into drag culture, this might be something you'll want to see.

Dancing Queen will play out over eight episodes, and judging by the preview, the tongue pops will flow like milk and honey, hunty.
The World of Wonder-produced series will follow Alyssa, aka Justin Johnson, as she wears her many wigs — business owner, mentor, dancer, drag superstar, etc.
Here's the rest.  There are a few photos, too.

California Has An Official LGBT Veterans Memorial Now

This memorial is located in Cathedral City just a few miles south of where Tony and I live in Palm Springs. I have to get photos and share them here on the blog.

California has become the first state in the US to officially recognise a memorial dedicated to LGBT+ veterans.
Governor Jerry Brown signed the LGBT+ tribute in Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, into law as an official state memorial on Monday (August 20).

Here's the link. It's interesting to note the memorial has been around since 2001. The link gives a lot of background about why it took so long to make the memorial official.

Bianca Del Rio Defending Rape Jokes; Former Disney Star Garrett Clayton Comes Out; PA Governor Nominee Scott Wagner and His Transphobic Bathroom Comment

Bianca Del Rio Defending Rape Jokes

Here's a follow up to the story I posted earlier this week about Del Rio making questionable jokes about rape. There's back story with the link, too.

In her own defense, Del Rio issued a statement on Instagram. Here's part of it...

I wasn't questioning the validity of anyone's personal struggles, but bringing it up right before you "lip sync for your life" was strategic...in my opinion.

You can read it all, here. I remember a time, not too long ago, when drag queens could get away with pretty much anything on stage.

Former Disney Star Garrett Clayton Comes Out

Here's another one who decided it was time, and bravo to him. He's the actor who portrayed Brent Corrigan in King Cobra.

Garrett Clayton, the star of Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie and NBC’s Hairspray Live, has come out as gay.

Here's more. There are pics of Clayton and his boyfriend.

PA Governor Nominee Scott Wagner and His Transphobic Bathroom Comment

Governor Tom Wolf, our current governor here in PA, is nothing like this guy who is the Republican nominee for PA Governor. Wolf is highly supportive of all LGBT people. It's a big part of his platform.

However, according to this publication, Scott Wagner recently said this in a town hall...

Then he gave his unasked for opinion on gender identity.
‘It’s real simple: If you’re born with male plumbing, you use the men’s room. If you’re born with female plumbing, use the ladies’ room. Period.’

Here's the rest. I can assure you that I will be getting out to vote this fall.

Gay San Francisco Cop's Shocking Claims; Josie Totah Comes Out As Trans; Betsy DeVos and Transgender Bathroom Complaints

Gay San Francisco Cop's Shocking Claims

When I read this one about San Francisco I couldn't help thinking about the way openly gay cops were denied the right to march in a pride parade last weekend in another part of the country because the LGBTQ organizers of the pride parade decided to discriminate against openly gay police.

This is pretty bad, too.

In a lawsuit filed last Thursday, 28-year-old officer Brendan Mannix accuses members of the San Francisco Police Department of sexual harassment, sexual discrimination based on his sexual orientation, and retaliating against a whistle-blower.

Here's more.  The San Francisco city attorney's office declined comment.

Josie Totah Comes Out As Trans

I hope we keep hearing about things like this.

Young actor Josie Totah, who has appeared in projects like Champions and Other People, has come out as transgender.
In a moving and honest op-ed for Time, Totah details her journey in accepting and embracing her identity.

Betsy DeVos and Transgender Bathroom Complaints
I always feel bad for the kids in situations like this.
A number of complaints about bathroom access for transgender students have been thrown out by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, according to Politico.
Here's more. DeVos claims she's following the law. Unfortunately, the kids suffer.

The Gay Angle In Netflix's "Insatiable"; Tom Daley on Why They Chose Surrogacy Over Adoption; NYU Professor's "Gay-Coded" E-mails Not Sexual; British Royal Family's First-Ever Gay Marriage

The Gay Angle In Netflix's Insatiable

Insatiable is a new dark comedy on Netflix, and it's been getting slammed all over the web by the PC crowd ever since it launched.

But I didn't find anything offensive about the gay angle in Insatiable. And I would be the first to mention it if I did. In fact, it's actually kind of refreshing to see the way they treat two gay characters...not like Will and his Grace. No spoilers, but coming out isn't easy for anyone. This happens in RL all the time.

In any event, here's a piece where one of the stars of the show explains something important.

A major point of contention for viewers has been the use of Ryan wearing a fatsuit in flashback scenes, a creative decision that Ryan admits made her skeptical at first, mostly because she feared “it would almost be done in parody like in Friends.” (If you’ve never seen Friends, the character of Monica, played by Courteney Cox, was overweight in her formative years. Cox dons a fatsuit in a few flashback scenes to signify that weight change.)

Here's the link.

Tom Daley on Why They Chose Surrogacy Over Adoption

Here's a good example of the way people treat gay people differently. I get it every single day of my life, and I totally agree with Daley. And if they aren't treating gay people differently, they are "splaining" what it's like to be gay to them.

Daley and his husband, Dustin Lance Black, want children, so they decided to use surrogacy instead of adoption. And all of a sudden everyone has an opinion about this. And this is how Daley replied...

In a new interview the Olympic diver points out that people ‘wouldn’t say that to a straight couple.’

Speaking to The Telegraph, Tom explained: ‘Lots of people say, “why don’t you adopt?”. You wouldn’t say that to a straight couple. You wouldn’t say: “Why do you deserve to have a biological kid?”‘

NYU Professor's "Gay-Coded" E-mails Not Sexual

Here's an odd tale that involves a sexual harassment lawsuit between a student and a professor.

Ronell denied having any sexual contact with her former student and said their emails contained "exaggerated expressions of tenderness" because they are both gay, not because she was sexually harassing him.

You can read more, here.

British Royal Family's First-Ever Gay Marriage

This one is about the first-ever gay marriage in the British Royal Family.

“It’s seen as the extended royal family giving a stamp of approval, in a sense, to same-sex marriage,” said Carolyn Harris, historian and author of “Raising Royalty: 1000 Years of Royal Parenting.” “This marriage gives this wider perception of the royal family encouraging everyone to be accepted.”

Here's more. It goes into more detail about the history of gay royals, male and female.
