FREE Excerpt: Happy Spanksgiving From Riverdale Ave Books In New York; Steve Grand Walks Through New Orleans In His Jock Strap

Happy Spanksgiving From Riverdale Ave Books In New York

I have a short story in this anthology, Spanksgiving, and I wanted to share something different today. A lot of people don't have the traditional Thanksgiving and I hope things like this give them enjoyment...something different.

This is a very rare, special holiday release from Riverdale Ave Books in New York, and my short story is a very rare heterosexual story with a male and female main characters. This story just came to me and I had to write it down.

I've read the book and I love all the stories. There are some familiar names for most people who read erotic romance books.

My story in the book is, Tommy Takes His Boots Off, and I've posted and excerpt below.

Here's the publisher's link. And I'm sure it will be on Amazon soon.

Have a great Thanksgiving!!

Steve Grand Walks Through New Orleans In His Jock Strap

This one's pretty simple to figure out.

The singer just debuted the music video to his song “Walking.” The video was shot in New Orleans back in May but is just now being released.

And he really did do this wearing nothing but his jock strap.

You can check this out here. I like him. Give him a break. He's working hard.

FREE Excerpt Tommy Takes His Boots Off

It's a short story so I obviously can't post too much, but here's the beginning.

Tommy Takes Off His Boots
By Ryan Field

After the haircut, Gina didn’t waste a minute to ask if her client, Tommy, wanted to go out for a drink that night. She was still standing behind him on the hair covered tiled floor while the beautician in the station next to her plugged in a blow dryer, but the only one who heard her speak was a wide-eyed elderly woman in the next chair.
Gina stared at Tommy in the mirror, and then removed the black plastic cape that covered his lanky body. When he stood to get up from the chair she spoke a little louder. “Hey, are you deaf or something? I’m talking to you, do you want to go for a drink tonight or not, Tommy?”
Tommy only shrugged his shoulders and nodded yes, and all she heard was the hollow whine of a blow dryer while he stared at the floor. He’d never been much of a talker and she wasn’t shocked in the least.
“Then I’ll pick you up at eight?” she said. It sounded more like a direct order than a question as her wrecked, nasal voice rose above the hum of the blow dryer. Her hands rested on her hips and she tapped her right foot. Everyone in town knew that Tommy had lost his drivers license for six months because he’d been stopped for drinking and driving. But that didn’t bother Gina Johnson. She liked being in control as much as she loved needy men.
Tommy nodded yes, raised his right arm to wave her off, and loped toward the exit door without glancing back. As he walked out of the salon in his black cowboy boots, he took small, careful steps. He was an athletic young man but he tended to walk slowly on the balls of his feet as if he wanted to avoid looking clumsy. Gina had always loved running her fingers through his thick sandy blond hair. Tommy had that little boy, puppy dog quality she loved in fully-grown men. Oh, the needier the better as far as she was concerned. And now as she stared at the way his wide shoulders slowly tapered down to a slim waist, she pressed her lips together and smiled at how the small of his back arched inward and then gently jutted out to form a nice round ass. It didn’t bother her at all that Tommy was only 25, and she, 35.
Gina was one of those women that other women didn’t get. Her hair was dyed brassy blond, her nose a little too large, and her chin a little too weak. She had a bulky, solid block of a body that was large, but it wasn’t out of shape; just layered with muscle and strength. Her clothes were simple, tailored no frill affairs: jeans, cotton pullover shirts and no bra. If it hadn’t been for the fact that she had long red fingernails and always wore very high heels, she could have been mistaken for a butch lesbian, which was ironic because she broke most of the stereotypes about women.

Barely Legal Gay Characters; Cyndi Lauper and LGBT Youth Homelessness; Transgender Professor Wins 1 Million In Court

Barely Legal Gay Characters

Tony and I have a 16 year old niece who recently came out as gay, and she's dating a fantastic 16 year old girl. They're both getting support from all family, including parents. They have their entire lives ahead of them, and it's so refreshing to see young gay people get a chance to have the youth that gay people (and all gay people up until very recently) like me were denied.

I think I'm aware of things like this because I have been writing gay erotica and erotic romance for a very long time. One of the things the industry has always frowned upon are barely legal characters. In fact, there is a list of things considered "taboo" that most publishers won't even go near. And even though the concept of barely legal rides a thin line, it is something I've always been concerned about.

First, this is one definition of "barely legal" at Urban Dictionary.

1) The age at which a girl is just old enough to have sex without getting the older man in trouble with the law.

It works the same way for barely legal guys, too, gay or straight.

My bottom line here is that it's creepy and more than questionable, especially nowadays with a new revelation about sexual abuse in Hollywood and the media coming out almost daily. A lot of these young women (and men) who were/are being sexually abused were/are barely legal.

The only reason I'm posting about it is because there's a new Hollywood film that's getting all kinds of critical acclaim for having a straight male character who is a 24 year old predator go after a 17 year old gay boy who is barely legal. And I'm finding that most people are not even aware of the fact that there is this concept of barely legal. I'm thinking (hoping) maybe if they knew they'd see something wrong with this and they wouldn't support it.

Well now you know. You know that this is not a good thing. Barely legal content is when a 24 year old straight male character goes after a 17 year old boy. If that doesn't bother you, that's fine. But you should know that's really what this is about, and there's no way to twist it and spin it into something else.

In any event, I'm not even mentioning the movie. The truth is the movie is up for awards, and people who would normally never support anything barely legal are praising this one. And I think that's just because it's gay content. If it were straight content it would be considered Lolita.

Cyndi Lauper and LGBT Youth Homelessness

On a far more positive note, here's a story about how Cyndi Lauper wants to help make a world a nicer place for LGBT youth. And there are a lot of LGBT young people who need help. The most vulnerable usually fall prey to older sexual predators.

Cyndi Lauper’s career got a boost in the LGBTQ community, and she has returned that affection many times over with some serious charity advocacy and action. In 2008 Lauper founded True Colors Fund, a non-profit organization designed to end homelessness among LGBTQ youth. A staggering 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness are LGBTQ. These young people face the struggles of homelessness, in addition to prejudice around their sexual orientation or gender identity – making them less likely to get help and more likely to remain homeless. This is the challenge Lauper’s True Colors Fund hopes to help solve.

Transgender Professor Wins 1 Million In Court

I must have missed this one because I don't remember reading anything about it, or posting about it here. And it's definitely something I would have posted about because these cases are changing the way transgender people are treated in the workplace.

A jury found on Monday that Southeastern Oklahoma State University violated Rachel Tudor’s civil rights in Tudor v. Southeastern Oklahoma State University, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Here's the rest.  It sounds as if this was a very painful experience.

Should You Register Your Book With Library of Congress; A True Blood Star Comes Out Online; Disney's First Male Princess

Should You Register Your Book With Library of Congress

Well, that all depends.

It's an age old theory with newbies that they need to register their books with the Library of Congress so no one can steal their work...or whatever. I have seen this come up on author/agent/publisher blogs since the beginning of the Internet, and I've always seen the same advice given.

It’s only necessarily to register your book with the Library of Congress if you plan for your physical book to appear in libraries. However, it is free to obtain the number so you may want to go ahead and get one just in case.

As for copyright, your work is your copyright. You don't need the Library of Congress for that.

It is important to note that a Library of Congress catalog number is not a copyright.

You can read more about it here. It's very helpful. If you google this topic there's a lot of information.

And, this has nothing to do with ASINs or ISBNs. You can read more about that here on Amazon.

A True Blood Star Comes Out Online

This is timely for me because I'm watching the Margaret Atwood series right now on Netflix, Alias Grace, and I was just thinking about True Blood last night because Anna Paquin is in the cast of Alias Grace. It's a great series and I highly recommend it.

But I digress...

Actress Rutina Wesley has taken to Instagram to share the news that she’s found the “sunshine of [her] life” in New Orleans’ Chef Shonda.

Wesley played Tara on True Blood, Sookie's bff.

Here's more.

Disney's First Male Princess

I can just see how this is going to go over with some of the people I see on Facebook. They just don't seem to get it no matter how it's explained. The entire concept of gender and how people identify completely stumps them. And it's really very simple if you just pay attention and listen.

In a recent episode of the Disney animated series Star vs. The Forces of Evil, a boy named Marco creates a female alter-ego — Princess Marco Turdina — in order to infiltrate ‘St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses.’ Once inside, he leads the girls to revolt against the authoritarian headmistress, helping the other princesses to believe they can be themselves.

I think it's a wonderful story line. I'm working on a gender bending short story right now, and I'm learning something new each day. It should be out before Christmas.

You can check this one out, here.

Jeffrey Tambor Leaves Transparent; The Private Lives of Mostly Straight Men; Mother Flawless Sabrina Passes Away

Jeffrey Tambor Leaves Transparent

I'm really starting to hate posting about these things...but it's news. And I do think that Transparent will continue without Tambor. The cast is fantastic, the story lines are strong, and the characters are likable.

EXCLUSIVE: Facing two accusations of sexual harassment by members of theTransparent team that he has strongly denied, Jeffrey Tambor today has decided not to return to the Amazon series.

Here's the rest.

The Private Lives of Mostly Straight Men

This one is about sexual fluidity. Don't worry. I don't totally understand it either. But it's interesting.

“To the uninitiated, mostly straight may seem paradoxical. How can a man be mostly heterosexual?” Savin-Williams writes in an article published by TIME. “Yet the evidence suggests that more young men identify or describe themselves as ‘mostly straight’ than identify as either bisexual or gay combined.”

Here's more. The comments go into a lot more detail.

Mother Flawless Sabrina Passes Away

This was sad to read...

Mother Flawless Sabrina, a drag icon and LGBTI rights trailblazer, passed away on Friday 17 November at age 78.

You can check it out, here. There are photos, and it goes into more detail about the hey days of drag and drag pageants. New Hope, PA, where I live, was huge on the drag circuit from what I hear. I missed all that, but I love when my older friends tell stories about the old days. Especially now since we're losing so much of our gay culture as each day passes.

In fact, I think the saddest part of all about losing our gay culture is that straight people don't even know we have our own culture, with roots that go as far back as Mother Flawless Sabrina. They don't have the slightest clue. That's sad.

RIP, Mother Flawless Sabrina

More About Feminine Gay Men; HIV Undetectable Men Speak Out; A Massive Navy Phallus In the Sky

More About Feminine Gay Men

Here's another story about the issues feminine gay men deal with all the time. There was a survey done recently (that I posted about last week) that stated over 70% of gay men are turned off by feminine gay men. And a UK blogger decided to address the issue with this...

The concept of masculinity, like most labels, is a bit of an outdated construct that makes people feel alienated and bad about themselves when they don’t fit the mold.
I personally think it’s far more attractive when somebody accepts, loves and owns who they are, rather than portraying a faux masculinity they’ve adopted to appeal to the masses. The irony is, pretending to be someone you’re not isn’t masculine at all. In fact, it takes far bigger balls to learn to love your genuine self.
Here's the rest. I think he hits on some interesting points. I've even talked about this topic at length in my recent novel, Kendle's Fire. And I'm going to shamelessly plug it right now because I think it's that important...for all men, gay and straight.

A PG Rated Gay Romance

Even though Kendle is an openly gay ex-Marine, he's been questioning his masculinity all of his life. He's always been what people expect a man to be, in spite of the fact that he's never been completely comfortable living up to these expectations.
He also has a few secrets. The kind of secrets a man can only talk about with the most intimate people in his life. One of those people is his best friend and part time lover, Dale. And their relationship is not without a few unusual quirks and ironies either, especially when it comes to the way Kendle explains his relationship with Dale to his own parents.
After a string of bad career decisions and awkward mistakes, it's not until Kendle meets a young guy named Walter that his life begins to come together. It's a journey filled with as much joy as heartbreak, with a few bittersweet twists in between. As Kendle opens himself up to new possibilities, he finds himself in the midst of life altering changes that leave him devastated. And there's a point where he's not sure he can get through any of it.

HIV Undetectable Men Speak Out

When it comes to HIV, there are a lot of people out there who don't know what "undetectable" means, so these HIV positive guys are trying to clarify it. It's an important message.

“We’ve seen major campaigns talking about how people living with HIV and on effective treatment cannot pass on the virus. And this has been wonderful. But many gay and bisexual men are not hearing this message, and if they are, it’s not sticking. This is why we created the video. We wanted to use real people, who are living with HIV and are undetectable, to break down step-by-step what exactly being HIV-undetectable is.”

You can check out the video here.

A Massive Navy Phallus In the Sky

A huge outline of a penis showed up in the sky earlier this week (literally), and it's been making the news ever since.

The atmospheric penis was drawn by U.S. Navy pilots using an EA-18G Growler with Electronic Attack Squadron 130, also known as “The Zappers.”
“The Navy holds its aircrew to the highest standards and we find this absolutely unacceptable, of zero training value and we are holding the crew accountable,” the Navy told KREM.
There's more, here. It's actually an excellent rendition.

FREE Gay Excerpt: Altered Parts by Ryan Field; Paris LGBT Archive Center; Jeffrey Tambor Denies 2nd Harassment Claim; Upcoming SCOTUS Discrimination/Wedding Cake Case

Paris LGBT Archie Center

This is encouraging. You don't see much about LGBT history anywhere other than the Internet.

Paris is planning to open an LGBT archive center in the city by 2020.
According to The Art Newspaper, it will document the country’s LGBT movement from the 1960s onward.

Jeffrey Tambor Denies 2nd Harassment Claim
There was another accusation for sexual harassment thrown at Transparent star, Jeffrey Tambor.
Amazon is investigating Tambor already, as his former assistant and trans actress Van Barnes accused him of behaving inappropriately around her.

Upcoming SCOTUS Discrimination/Wedding Cake Case
You won't see a lot about this trending on social media these days, but it's actually something we should all be paying attention to. The outcome could be critical to all minorities.
Next month, Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission arrives at the Supreme Court of the United States. It’s the most crucial case for LGBTQ rights since the legalization of marriage equality in 2015.
This is the one about the baker who wouldn't make a wedding cake for a gay couple because he believed it was against his religion. It's a short article and it goes into more detail, and talks about free speech and discrimination. You can check that out here.
FREE Gay Excerpt: Altered Parts by Ryan Field
Here's another short excerpt from my newest release, Altered Parts. The book is set in a rural area of 1940s North Carolina.
It took a moment or two to start the old car, but once the motor turned over we cheered and he punched me in the arm. I knew it was his way of showing affection without actually being affectionate and I said nothing. I turned the wheel, headed down the dirt drive, and toward a road that would lead us up to the highest point on Buddy's Mountain.
I hadn't been up to the top of the mountain in about a year. We used to go up there all the time when I was younger and my aunts had more energy. Back when my grandfather had still been alive every single family holiday and summer event had been held up there. We'd gather in a gazebo my grandfather had built years earlier, for long picnics that often lasted well into the evening hours.
As we climbed to the top in the old car that day, I'd forgotten how intimidating the old dirt road could be. It wrapped around the edge of the mountain, without a fence or guardrail, and one wrong move on my part would have sent us both plunging thousands of feet to our deaths. I gripped the steering wheel tighter and leaned forward a little. And while I never took my eyes off the road for longer than a second, Clay stared out through the passenger window gaping at the view.
"I've never seen anything like this before," he said. "It's fantastic. Everything is so green."
I smiled. I kept my eyes focused on the road and said, "The height doesn't bother you at all?"
"Hell, no," he said. "The higher the better. I love looking down. It gives me a thrill up my leg. Does it bother you?"
I gulped. "Let's just say I'm always glad when we reach the top of the mountain and I'm on solid ground. I just don't like being this close to the edge."
"You're doing just fine. Stop worrying so much. The road is wide enough for a huge truck, it's very smooth, and you're just thinking about it in an exaggerated way. Trust me, you're okay."
"That's easy for you to say. You weren't raised by two spinster aunts who wanted to prepare you for all the terrible, awful things that can happen in life. Trust me, they left nothing out."
This time he looked away from the view and frowned. "At least you have them. You're lucky. It's a lot more than I had."
After he said that, I wanted to find out more about his upbringing, but we had just reached the top of the mountain and he kept looking around with such wide eyes I figured I would save the deep conversation for a later date.
The moment I pulled up next to a large rock that wasn't too far from the family gazebo, even before I turned off the motor, he jumped out of the car and ran to the edge of the cliff. I watched as he stood there with his hands on his hips and his long legs spread apart. I climbed out of the car and started toward him, noticing he looked as good from the back as he did from the front. His expression appeared so animated and thrilled with excitement I enjoyed watching his impressions of the mountain more than I enjoyed the mountain itself. I'd grown up there. I knew every inch of that mountain, including the views. It's not that I didn't love it, but seeing it all through Clay's eyes made me feel as though I was seeing for the first time as well.
I walked up to where he was standing at the edge of the cliff and said, "I sometimes forget how beautiful it is up here."
Without looking back, he said, "It's the most fantastic view I've ever seen. It's so green. Where I come from everything's so different. It's nice, and the sky is huge, but it's not as interesting as all this. It feels so safe and comfortable, and I'm not sure where to look first."
I smiled and tapped his shoulder. "Then follow me. I know a spot where the views are even better than this."
He turned and said, "You lead the way."
As we headed in the other direction, he asked about the large building in the distance. It resembled a log cabin, but massive in size. I told him my grandfather had built it there years earlier as his workshop. My grandfather's hobby had always been furniture making and many referred to him as an artisan. His designs had always been classic with a modern edge. He'd designed and built the entire log structure himself over a period of four years, and barely had enough time to build any furniture in it before he died. He’d built most of his designs in the old workshop near the house. We had a few pieces of his work in the main house, and the rest were sold at auction to collectors. He didn't have grand international fame as a furniture designer, but he did have a following among people who were familiar with the art of that region. My aunts devoted a section of the library in the house to articles written about him, and books that had mentioned him.
Clay followed me up a narrow trail to a huge old oak tree that had probably been growing there for generations. Years before I was born my grandfather and father used to go up to the mountain to hunt for food and they'd built a tree house up in that old oak tree where they could sit quietly and wait for deer to show up. My aunts never went up there and they'd never had any interest in hunting. I didn't go up there often either because it wasn't much fun alone.
I lead him around to the other side of the oak tree where a ladder had been built. I gestured to the ladder first and said, "After you."
He climbed to the top and I followed, taking each step as quickly and unplanned as everything else we'd done that day. It amazed me how being with Clay changed everything so much. It felt as if all the things I'd known all my life suddenly took on new meanings and nothing felt mundane anymore. Even that old tree house in the oak tree felt newer and more vibrant.
After he paced the small platform a few times praising the view, we sat down on the old weathered wooden planks and settled our backs up against the tree trunk. He stretched his long legs, crossed his feet, and removed his cowboy hat. Before I even had a chance to get totally comfortable he started asking me about my past and my upbringing and I told him a quick version of how I'd lost my parents and how I'd been raised by my aunts. My story wasn't all that interesting. My parents had been killed in a car accident and I'd been raised by my aunts. I was only an infant at the time of my parents' death so I had no stories to tell about them at all. And most of the stories my aunts told were stories about themselves. They been competing to see who had the most interesting past since the day they been born and I wasn't going to bore Clay with that time Aunt Ted lost her new purse at the church picnic.
When I finally finished talking, I turned and asked, "What about you? You haven't said much about your past at all. All I know is that you're from Wyoming, you're heading to Florida on foot, and that you were raised on a ranch with cowboys."
He sighed and rested his hands behind his neck. He uncrossed his feet and spread his legs wide. "There's not much to tell. I had an older brother who died when he was eight years old. I never knew him. My parents had me a year after he died. When I was 10 years old, my mother died after a long illness. I only remember her being sick. I've never been sure what that illness was, but she suffered a lot. I remember her crying out in pain in the front parlor. They'd set up a bed for her in the front parlor to make it easier."
"I'm sorry," I said. "That must have been hard on you and your father."
"Oh, don't worry about my father," Clay said. His voice took on a bitter tone. "He knew what he was doing. While my mom was dying, her sister…Aunt Mary…came to live with us so she could take care of my mom and us. Well Aunt Mary wound up taking better care of my dad than anyone else, if you get my drift. And the month after my mother died my father married Aunt Mary."
"No they didn't."
"Oh yes they did," he said. "I was very young, but I was old enough to understand and to resent Aunt Mary and my father for what had happened. I caught them kissing once in the kitchen while my mother was dying in the front parlor. They didn't know I caught them and I never said anything, but I never gave them an ounce of love or respect again. I closed myself off completely. After my mother died, Aunt Mary moved right into her bedroom with my father and she took over. So I learned how to take care of myself. I spent most of my time on the ranch with the cowboys. I only had limited interaction with my aunt and father, and by the time I was 17 my father died suddenly. They said it was his heart."
"What happened to your Aunt Mary?"
He shrugged. "She was his wife. She inherited everything and she had total control over me. My father left me with nothing. I finally reached a point where I couldn't take it anymore so I left. I just picked up one day, started walking, and I never looked back. I had no reason to stay. I owned nothing, I despise Aunt Mary, and there was no other family. That's why I'm heading toward Florida. I figure if I'm going to join the military I might as well do it in a place that looks like fun."

Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson Goes Full Frontal Male Nudity and It's HUGE; Bella Thorne On Lil Peeps Sudden Death; Politician Explains Gay Porn On His Twitter

Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson Goes Full Frontal Male Nudity and It's HUGE

There's a new Hulu series out titled, Future Man. I don't know much about it, but it seems to be getting a lot of attention because of this:

The show, which premiered Wednesday evening, features Josh Hutcherson flopping around with a clearly prosthetic piece of manhood. (At least we’re assuming it’s prosthetic since it looks like it couldn’t adequately fit into a pair of sweat pants.)

There's a link with this article that I'm linking to that will lead you to a few photos. That thing is HUGE, and there's this heavy patch of black fur all around it that might even make you chortle.

You can check it all out here. The premise of the series actually sounds pretty good, though. This episode has something to do with time travel and swapping penises. So it sounds as if the full frontal nudity coincides with the story line. And if that's what they did, I'm glad. I've never forgiven that HBO TV series titled, Hung, where they never once showed you just how hung the character was.

Bella Thorne On Lil Peeps Sudden Death

I've always been a rap fan, and this really sadden me. 21 year old rapper, known as Lil Peep, passed away suddenly and so many people are reacting to it.

Bella Thorne's response to Lil Peep's death shows the devastation she feels, and her overall loss for words rings true for many people who have experienced a tragic, unexpected loss.

That's still a baby...21. May he RIP.

You can read the rest here.

Politician Explains Gay Porn On His Twitter

Let's get this out of the way right up front. I follow gay porn people on my Twitter. I also follow priests, and I even follow one nun. My Twitter feed is where I gather information and try to learn about what's going on, and for me that encompasses everything. I even follow inspirational tweeps. However, I'm not a politician, nor do I ever want to be a politician.

With that said, a high ranking politician in Australia is now claiming that his Twitter account was hacked, and that's why it says he "liked" a tweet published by these gay porn people. According to him, he had nothing to do with liking gay porn.

Pyne insists there’s been some kind of mistake, however, falling back on the “I’ve been hacked!” defense.

You can check this out here. There's the expected screen shot of the tweet.

We really are living in puritanical times.
