Marco Rubio and Pro-Gay Money; Biggest Douche of the Year; Ten Sexual Orientations

Marco Rubio and Pro-Gay Money

Of course this is just another biased political piece from the gay presses, however, they did use the word "moribund" so I figured I'd link to it anyway.

In short, Paul Singer has a gay son. He was supporting Jeb Bush. Now he's allegedly giving his money to Marco Rubio.

What Singer’s decision doesn’t do is push the GOP to be more gay friendly. And that’s one of Singer’s main goals. As the father of a gay son, Singer is the force behind the American Unity Fund, a group of fat cats that want Republicans to enter the 21st century on the side of freedom and equality.

Although this reads more like an op-ed piece, and maybe it is I'm really not sure, there are a few interesting things about it.  And when you read things like this keep in mind that Hillary Clinton did NOT support equal rights for gays until the moment suited her.

That's not biased. That's a fact.

You can read the rest here.

Biggest Douche of the Year

This is entertaining...if nothing else. It's a list of people who are being considered for the biggest douche of the year title.

It was a banner year for antigay douche baggery, in large part because the Supreme Court’s ruling on nationwide marriage equality drew them out of dumpsters. The ruling, by a conservative majority court, set the wing nuts into high dudgeon. Religious rightists across the country came out of the woodwork to respond in all sorts of outrageous, and sometimes even unintentionally fascinating, ways. The law may now be settled, but they are definitely still unsettled by it.

Kim Davis is there. I think she's going to win this one hands down.

You can check this out here.

Ten Sexual Orientations

There's been a lot of talk lately on the fringes about various sexual orientations. If you're like me, most of you haven't heard much about them and you know very little about them.

Human sexuality is a fickle pickle, and there’s no one-size-fits-all to choose from. While many of us find “gay” or “straight” works just fine to describe our complicated sexual chemistry, others click elsewhere on the spectrum. A recent study found that 49 percent of Brits between the ages of 18-24 identify as something other than “100 percent heterosexual” when asked to plot themselves on Alfred Kinsey’s sexuality scale.

I find it fascinating, especially the asexual orientation. This is on the list, too. Of course it goes without saying asexuals get all my support even though I don't fully understand it. I'd just like to see a little support from the asexuals coming my way for a change. I watched a Youtube video recently that took place at some small book conference where asexuals gathered and spoke about sex in books. It was very, VERY disheartening to hear them bash (and laugh) at sex in books and the people who write sex in books. I felt discriminated against as an erotic romance author, and I would be the first one to support them.

If any other group of writers had been caught on video doing the same thing to asexuals they would have been blasted all over social media for it. Tolerance goes boths ways...even if you are asexual.

You can check out the various orientations here.

Justin Bieber vs Bette Midler...or the Divine Britt Midler; Oprah, Gayle, and Chick-Fil-A; More About PrEP

Justin Bieber vs Bette Midler...Or the Divine Britt Midler

I think these things are amusing, especially thanks to Twitter. I have to admit I don't know too much about Justin Bieber, however, I should also admit I have no idea what so many people find entertaining about Bette Midler. I just don't get the appeal.

Of course the gay presses...because they are gay presses...put a spin on this one and they're making it look as if Bieber got slammed by Midler when it really was the other way around. After Beiber's dad tweeted about his son's penis size, as a joke, as sarcasm, Midler had to open her big mouth and add something serious about his dad's parenting skills. Because, you know, only Bette Midler can do sarcasm. No one else can.

So, Bieber replied to Midler with this, and he was defending his dad:

“This Britt Meddler,” Bieber mused to Billboard. “I don’t even know who that is, honestly. I wanted to immediately say ‘Who is this lady?’, but then I’m just fueling this negativity. I do feel the photo was an invasion of my privacy. I felt super violated. My dad made light of it, but I don’t think that’s sick and twisted. It was funny. Dads are going to be dads.”

You can read the rest here. Of course Britt Midler responded.

Say what you will about Bieber but he was defending his dad this time.

Oprah, Gayle, and Chick-Fil-A

This one is even more entertaining than the Beiber/Britt Midler article. Evidently, Oprah and her "best friend" Gayle are supporting Chick-Fil-A and the gay presses are wondering WTF is up with that. Actually, they're going berserk.

But not everyone is pleased with the Oprah machine throwing its support behind such a vocally antigay company.

“Very disappointed you & the magazine support this awful company,” one person commented on the photo.

I thought better of you than this @gayleking,” another person said.

“How disappointing. A company like Chick Fil A should not be supported,” a third person added.

I have to admit that I've never once had Chick-Fil-A. We don't have them in Bucks County, at least not anywhere near New Hope. I would imagine there are a few between New Hope and New York City I could check out, and one did just open in Manhattan, however, after hearing about how antigay they are I honestly never wanted to go out of my way to support them as a customer.

Evidently, Oprah and her "best friend" Gayle don't agree.

Activists are calling for a boycott of O Magazine and I'm wondering who still reads magazines in the first place.

You can check this out here.

More About PrEP

I think the entire concept of PrEP is a good idea because it seems to be helping a lot of gay men. And that's as far as I want to take it here. I know there's controversy surrounding it, however, I hear more good things about it than bad. And I hear them on a one to one basis most of the time.

I've even incorporated PrEP into my next Rainbow Detective book because it fit so well into the story line with Blair and Proctor.

Here's a piece about a guy who's doing PrEP and he's speaking very candidly about his life.

This guy on PrEP likes to party and he’s not gonna let you slut-shame him. Public Health Solutions has released a pro-PrEP ad and, well, see for yourself.

We’re all about getting the word out, but we can’t believe nobody caught the link between a young, hot gay guy saying he “likes to party” and the link to PnP (i.e. crystal meth) that’s so closely aligned with “partying.”

There's a video that I think is worth watching if for no other reason than to learn more about PrEP.

I'm  also NOT a fan of slut-shaming...or any other kind of shaming online or in public.

Said Bookisms and Dialogue; Yusaf Mack Says He's Gay; Vote For Your Youtuber Favorite

Said Bookisms and Dialogue

I once read a book review where an amateur author claimed the book "didn't have good writing." I'd read the same book, which is why I was reading other reviews, and I have to admit I was stumped by this other author's nasty negative review. The book I'd read...the very same book this other author reviewed negatively...was flawless. It was so well-written I learned a few things while I read it.

So out of curiosity, I went to the Amazon page of the author who left the bad review for the other author and I checked out HER books to see what HER writing was like. I figured she must be really great, with such a great big mouth. In the first few pages of several of her books I found nothing but "said bookisms," from one line of dialogue to the other. When this author's characters spoke to each other they "grumbled, mumbled, and stumbled" so many times I almost lost my lunch.

In this author's quest to come off looking as if she knew it all she proved to people who actually do know better that she doesn't know much. That's the only way to put it kindly. And when I write posts like this I'm hoping readers will check them out so they can see the difference, too.

With that said, here's what "said bookisms" are. As the aritcle states, you can use them once in a while and it's fine. Sometimes you have to use them. (I do it sometimes and feel so dangerous, which shows you what a geek I can be) However, if you use them in every single line of dialogue people who know better are going to whisper.

In short, a "said bookism" is what happens when an inexperienced author constantly uses dialogue tags like "she exclaimed, he ejaculated, she grumbled" instead of just saying "he said," or "she said." You see it a lot in magazine articles. Magazines are famous for this kind of writing. It's fine in the right context because those people aren't supposed to know better and it would be rude to correct them. Sometimes it's cute. However, when a book is being published I think the author should know better. As a reader I can overlook a few misspellings and little things. But bad dialogue is something different.

And here's yet another article I found this week about dialogue I thought was excellent. It's short, it's simple, and it will show you the difference...and there is a difference. I don't make this stuff up, which is why I link to posts and bloggers who know far more than I do.

Problem #1: “Said” alternatives are usually counter-productive in that they end up drawing way more attention to themselves than plain-Jane “said” ever would.

Yusaf Mack Says He's Gay

When I posted about the Yusaf Mack story earlier this week I had a feeling there would be a follow up soon. He's the cute (hot) boxer who was claiming that he didn't realize he did a gay porn film because he was allegedly drugged at the time. The original story was that he was bisexual.

Now this...

In a new interview taped earlier this week with Fox 29 in Philadelphia, Mack told reporter Quincy Harris: “I’m tired of holding it in. It is what it is. I live my life. I’m gay,” adding that he’s been aware of his sexuality for “about eight years.”

I don't have a negative comment about this. It's the perfect example of just how confused some gay men get and how hard it is for them to come out. I'm just glad he did come out and I hope things get easier for him. It sounds as if he's still going through a lot.

Vote For Your Youtuber Favorite

I have to admit that I love this. I love everything about it. The sheer fact that someone can reach this point of exposure from Youtube just makes me smile. When I first discovered Youtube years ago I never would have imagined anything like this. It also breaks (shatters) the old Hollywood mold where a few select people decided to would become famous, who was talented, and who would get the most exposure.

Kicking off this year’s program is the category YouTube Standouts. Social media is saturated with personalities vying for attention, but these ten queer YouTubers are the cream of the crop. From comedy to politics, each brings to the table positive visibility for the LGBTQ community.

You can check them out here. I follow a lot of these people on Twitter and they are some of the brightest, most creative on the Internet. And they're doing it all by themselves.

One of the personal goals that I've been talking about for quite some time is that I'm going to start doing book readings on Youtube eventually. I will do this. I just want to make sure it's not totally awful so I don't wind up looking like the "said bookism" of Youtube...and there's a very good chance that could happen.

Boy Meets Boy Romance; Alex Minsky Strips; Addicted to YAS

Boy Meets Boy Romance

Here's something you don't see often. A romance story line about bisexual guys.

It often seems that nuanced explorations of bisexuality on screen are few and far between. The new romantic drama, In the Grayscale has been getting attention for its even-handed and thoughtful treatment of sexual self-discovery.

You can view a clip here.

I'll look for it on NetFlix. But you should read the comments. I think in cases like this it shows how gay men feel about film content with respect to what they're getting...or nor getting.

Alex Minsky Strips

I haven't posted about Alex Minsky in a while, but I think this will make up for it. He did a calendar for 2016 you'll want to check out.

If there is a better way to kick off the ever-closer new year than with these stunning photos of tattooed veteran-turned-insanely good-looking model Alex Minsky, we’d love to hear about it.

Definitely check this out here.

The photos have that artistic quality you don't see all the time. In some cases possibly a little too "artistic" (there's a fine line between real art and faux high school art), but they're still good anyway.

Side Note: You can follow Minsky on Instagram and he's really very good with his fandom.

Addicted to YAS

For the record, I don't dislike all gay stereotypes. I think some are endearing, some can be adorable, and some can depict gay culture as it is. In other words, it's always been my own personal opinion that some stereotypes...in any culture...don't make that much of a difference and people tend to take them too seriously sometimes. I know people will disagree with me, so I make it clear that's my own personal opinion and I'm not advocating any negative stereotypes.

With that said, I think this guy is adorable. He's talking about his addiction to saying "yaaaas" instead of "yes." And he does it in a video in a very adorable way.  Yeah, I'm a huge sucker for this kind of adorable. I would definitely drink his Kool Aide.

It starts innocently enough.

Sharp new fade? Yaas.

That amazing Halloween look last weekend? Yaass!

An upcoming vacation to Mexico? YAASS Mama!!

But yaass has a dark, ugly side (besides just being annoying when used to react to any and all life situations). And nobody’s talking about it.

You can watch the video here and see for yourselves.

So far there aren't any comments.

Do You Know What Sharia Law Is? Cyber-Bullying and Charta Res Novae; Antigay, Racist Trolls

Do You Know What Sharia Law Is?

The other day I noticed one of those videos on Facebook where a reporter goes out into the field and asks people the simplest political questions at random. In this case the topic was whether or not people supported Hillary Clinton and the platform on which she was basing her campaign...Sharia Law. The reporter made it sound as if Hillary was supporting Sharia Law. Of course that's not true and Hillary is not supporting Sharia Law. It was just a joke to see if people knew.

The replies were as funny as they were sad. You can't even call it bittersweet because so many people just didn't know what Sharia Law was, not even the basics. I was amazed to see how many people would actually think that someone like Hillary Clinton (or any US politician) would base her/his campaign on Sharia Law.

In any event, I know what Sharia Law is and how it relates to Islam views, but for those who might not I'd rather link to articles that explain it far better than I can.

This is from wiki:

Sharia Law is the oppression of women. A man may beat his wife or find a reason to have her killed under the basis of Sharia Law. Under Sharia Law a woman has no rights of her own and without his explicit permission can not do so much as leave the house. If she disobeyed his command he may have her killed under Sharia Law. Under Sharia Law a woman is her husband's property. Uner Sharia Law a woman is not ever allowed to drive a vehicle (not even in an emergency). Under Sharia Law a woman may not discipline her son without her husband's permission. Under Sharia Law a woman may not be addressed as mother by her son. Under Sharia Law a woman has to cover her face at all times and may not uncover it under any circumstances. Under Sharia Law a woman has no voice to display her dislike of what her husband says. Under Sharia Law a woman may be raped by her husband because she is not permitted by Sharia Law to deny her husband sex.

There's more here.

Here's another web site that explains it well:

As a legal system, the Sharia law covers a very wide range of topics. While other legal codes deal primarily with public behavior, Sharia law covers public behavior, private behavior and private beliefs. Of all legal systems in the world today, Islam's Sharia law is the most intrusive and strict, especially against women.

There's a full list of laws with this article.

And because this blog is always focused on LGBT issues, here's how Sharia Law deals with LGBT people...

Whilst LGBTT-rights activists are making great progress in non-Muslim societies, gay communities in the Muslim world are left fighting for even the most basic of human rights, and in many cases, their very lives.

You can read more about that here.

Cyber-Bullying and Charta Res Novae

I found this web site recently that focuses on cyber-bullying, defamation, and cyber-abuse and thought it was newsworthy enough to link to. It's the rare person who works or plays online and hasn't seen or personally experienced the online bullies, the "mean girls," or those who think they know everything and will stop at nothing to prove it. The bully horror stories never seem to end. I've experienced plenty myself over the last 15 years which is why I moderate comments at all times. It's not that I'm afraid of the bullies. I'm not hiding anything. It's just that I found it much too simple (but time consuming) to go after them.

This is their mission statement:

Lobbying for the criminalization of defamation and any cyber abuse that would be considered a criminal act if committed offline (i.e stalking, harassment sustained over time, physical threats, etc...); no victim should be forced to choose between suffering in silence or footing a huge legal bill just to get minimal (if any) recompense in civil court.

And this is from a recent post:

"Chris Long of the St. Louis Rams is a vocal campaigner against cyber-bullying. Despite a recently sustained injury, the defensive end met with enthusiastic students at Affton high school on Thursday to encourage them to kill cyber-bullying with kindness."

You can check the entire web site out here.

It's actually a very well designed and executed web site and it addresses one of the biggest concerns today about online criminal behavior.

Antigay, Racist Trolls

This article kind of ties in the two above.

I think I posted about these two guys last year. They had their photos taken while sitting on a skytrain in Bangkok, the images went viral, and the two suffered tons of cyber-abuse as a result.

A barrage of nasty comments poured in, proving yet again that some people simply can’t contain their deep-seeded racism and homophobia from the comfortable anonymity of their keyboards.

Well judging by the couple’s recently shared wedding photos, all that hate couldn’t stop them from continuing to show the world what love looks like.

You can check out the wedding photos here. It's nice to see a RL happily ever after once a while.

Yusaf Mack Book: Gay Porn ; Gay Issues, Girl Scouts, and Philanthropy; Certain Stories of Gay Life Global

Yusaf Mack Book: Gay Porn Scandal

There's a boxer named Yusaf Mack who's in this firestorm about allegedly making a gay porn film, but claims he can't remember anything....because he says he was drugged.

Mack, a boxer out of Philly, made headlines last week when he accused producers of drugging him with a mysterious pill and a shot of vodka. He reached out to us through a crisis manager, saying he had more to say about what went down.

The weird thing is that even though Mack says he can't remember a thing he's still going to write a book about shooting the film. The film producers deny they drugged him, they claim he knew it was gay porn, and they might wind up suing.

You can read the rest here at TMZ. There's a photo of Mack without his shirt.

Gay Issues, Girl Scouts, and Philanthropy

Here's a piece that discusses the Girl Scouts, transgender inclusion, and how people donate money in large sums...with certain stipulations. Evidently, one huge donor wanted a promise that her money would never be used to help support trans issues and if she couldn't get that promise she wanted her money back.

“I will characterize the letter as saying essentially that they had seen news coverage of the Girl Scouts allowing transgender girls to participate in their programs,” says Ms. Ferland, who declined to identify the donor. “They wanted assurance that their funds would not help support transgender girls participating and if I couldn’t give that assurance they wanted the money returned.” Before she even finished reading the letter, “I thought to myself, ‘The money’s going back.’”

After the money was returned they made an announcement about what happened, did crowdfunding at Indiegogo, and wound up raising more than twice the amount they had to return. I don't know much about fundraising, but I do hope that people donate as much to cancer research as they did this.

It's an interesting piece on how the Girl Scouts prides itself on inclusion, and gay philanthropy in general.  You can check the rest out here.

Certain Stories of Gay Life Global

The Gay Life Project by photographer, Kevin Truong, was originally an art school project that's turned into a series about gay men all over the world. Or, certain gay men.

Through his work, Truong has tapped into the global diversity of the gay male experience, giving men a platform to tell and share their stories with the world. He has gained international acclaim through his vivid photography and intimate interviews, garnering the attention of political figures and even royalty.

The New York-based photographer will exhibit his work in New York City from Nov. 2 through Nov. 4.

If you're in NY this week you might want to check that out. Unfortunately, I won't be and I wish I'd seen this earlier. The rest is here.

I'm not sure whether or not Truong is gay. But they let you know his passion is coconut cream pie. Here's a link to his web site.

The only thing I found unfortunate about what I saw at the link provided was that there was not one single gay man in a photo with whom I could personally identify. That's why I'd love to see the entire project...to see if I missed something and if I'm wrong. Maybe Truong didn't leave out a huge number of us. You know, those of us who don't go to pride events and ride on floats, the ones who don't hang rainbow flags outside their homes, but also the ones who fight just as hard for equality but don't live outrageous lives worthy of "artsy" photos. Because at a glance it looks like more left-wing elitist propaganda designed to dismiss and silence the gay men who aren't the most outrageous.

Yes, I get to say that without caring about what the PC police thinks. I'm gay, too :)

Fangsters 2 In Paperback; Being Gay and Black; Pawn Stars and Marco Rubio

Fangsters 2 In Paperback
I've been remiss with this book...Fangsters 2. I've been blogging about it as an e-book for over a week and today I just discovered it's also available in paperback on Amazon.

I'm so used to e-books and reading and writing e-books I often overlook the fact that there are a lot of people who still read print books, and I apologize for that. I should know better because I get messages all the time from people asking which of my books are out in print.

So I'll rectify that now. Fangsters 2 is available on Amazon as a print book, in paperback. As I said, I didn't know about it and only found out myself today by accident.

It's also available as an e-book..and you don't need a kindle e-reader to read kindle books. I read my Amazon purchases on my iPhone and mini iPad. I sometimes read them on my PC. The apps are easy to download and they're free.

Here's the Amazon link.

Being Gay and Black

As this article states at the beginning, it's impossible to understand another person's experience if we haven't lived it ourselves. This is about what it's like to be a gay black man. It's one of those meme things, and this time they quote gay black men on their personal experiences.

They're very honest and many of the quotes are gutting.

Here's one:

Sometimes it sucks being a gay black man. Most of the time people seem to pigeonhole us for our stereotypical dick size or they say they're not into black guys.

You can read the rest here.

I've dated black men and I've heard a lot of these things before and they never, ever get easier to hear.

And from what I've been told, one thing that's rarely ever mentioned is the blatant discrimination toward gay black men that comes from within the black hetero Christian community.

Pawn Stars and Marco Rubio

I don't even know what the TV show Pawn Stars is about. I'm not a huge fan of reality TV and I've never been to a pawn shop in my life. However, it seems the host of the show is worried that the show will be dropped because he supports Marco Rubio. In his statement the PC police claims he made an offensive anti-trans comment.

I'm not sure whether his comment is PC or not, but it's really more of a dumb comment and not something any bright person would make in public. But this is reality TV we're talking about. Dumb is dumb.

Here you go:

It does worry me to a degree. You get these massive liberal PC police, they don’t see the law of unintended consequences. You have some cities that are saying that if you have a man who feels like he’s a woman, he can use the women’s restroom. I guarantee you that will be taken advantage of by some very bad men who want to go into a bathroom where there’s young ladies. That will happen if you pass a law like that. It’s not a perfect world. You’ll never make it a perfect world.”

You can check that out here.

In case you're curious...I was...here's a link that explains the law of unintended consequences. It's actually interesting.
