Closeted Footballer's Harsh Coming Out; Gay Denied Communion at Mom's Funeral; Gay Teen Hanged In Iran

Closeted Footballer's Harsh Coming Out

These stories gut me sometimes, because I see them all the time, and I've witnessed them personally. In this case it's about an Australian footballer, Lachlan Beaton, who lived in the closet for years, dealing with all kinds of emotional issues as a result.

Now 34 and a happiness coach based in New York City, Beaton said although he had known since the age of 15 he is gay, he was afraid that he would be rejected by his friends and his identical brother Charles who he was very close to.

He said in the video he first came out when he was 27 after he became tired of his own self-destructive tendencies and suicidal thoughts because he felt like a ‘lesser human’ who ‘hated’ himself.

He first came out to his twin brother Charles, then brothers Sam and Nick, his footy mates and his parents Juddie and Andrew months later.

If anyone wants a good example of what hell must be like, just read more stories like this. I just hope that if anyone reads this and they are still in the closet and living the way Lachlan did, this helps them understand there's nothing wrong with being gay.

You can see the video Lachlan made here.

Gay Denied Communion at Mom's Funeral

This one hits home because I was raised Catholic and went to twelve years of Catholic school. However, I don't practice Catholicism anymore and when I have to go to a family event now as a show of respect I sit in the back row and wait until it's over. I wouldn't set myself up for something like this.

In any event, here's what happened to a gay man in the south.

A gay man in Louisiana, US says he was denied communion at his mother’s funeral Mass by the presiding Catholic priest because he’s in a same-sex marriage.

Tim Ardillo, who was an altar boy at the very church where the funeral was held, was in line with his young son next to his mother’s coffin when the pastor of the church Rev Mark Beard refused the man communion.

The funeral Mass as held at St Helena Catholic Church in Amite, Louisiana, on July 10.
According to the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper, Ardillo said the priest told him that he’s being refused because he was married outside the church. He however believes it’s because he was listed in his mother’s obituary as being married to another man.

The newspaper reported that Beard did not return multiple calls when he was contacted in the week following the funeral.

You can read it all here. I can't preach to anyone about what they should believe or what religion they should follow. I just happen to think the Catholic church treats LGBT people in a very shabby way. You have a choice. You don't have to take it.

Gay Teen Hanged In Iran

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that our President and our politicians and even our press went into great detail recently about Iran and nuclear weapons, but none ever bother to mention the way gays are treated in Iran?

I can't help but wonder how they would react if this had happened to any other minority:

A 14-year-old was hanged from a tree in Isfahan, Iran, according to unconfirmed reports.
Akbar Zargarzadeh, the young teen, had been at an Islamic boys’ camp when the cleric accused him of being gay.

The mullah told the other boys that the young teen was ‘deserving of death’.

Amir Taheri, a former editor of Iran’s main newspaper Kayhan, first posted the story on Twitter yesterday:

The rest is here. The sources seem reliable. What always worries me the most is what we're not hearing about.  Obviously, it's not important enough or sensational enough to make the evening news.

Steve Grand's Hot Swimsuit; Newspaper Censors Wedding Announcements; Tom Daley Gets Naked

Steve Grand's Hot Swimsuit

This is a link to one of those photo articles that covers many things...however, there's a swimsuit photo of Steve Grand you truly don't want to miss.

Trust me on this.

Here's the link.

You can also follow Steve Grand on Twitter, here. He's not one of those diva's on twitter that never interact with fans. He also follows over three thousand people, not just a handful.

He's a nice guy. Plain and simple.

Treat him with respect.

Newspaper Censors Wedding Announcements

Not too long ago I posted about how some gay men are worried that their small local newspapers will announce their weddings, which will only make it more difficult for them. Here's a twist to that story. There's a newspaper in Mississippi that is not publishing gay weddings and they are allegedly censoring pro-gay journalists.

“Journal, Inc. has made a policy decision to not accept wedding/engagement notices from samesex [sic] couples,” Wolfe wrote. “Please communicate to anyone else on your staff who would be taking this information from walkin [sic] customers.”

Wolfe then went on to say that employees were not allowed to share their feelings about marriage equality in their columns or on social media.

“A decision has been made that the Journal’s editorial board will not take a position on the recent Supreme Court decision,” she wrote. “Because the company is not taking an editorial position on this, we need to follow suit, and not take positions editorially or in personal columns.”

She continued: “We need to remember that we and our employees all are representatives of Journal, Inc. 24/7. Our job is to report the news objectively and we can’t do this if we’re also on social media sharing our opinions. We have a right to our opinions, but because we are so tightly connected to our newspaper products, we don’t need to vocalize this on social media … whether we realize it or not, people see that as the paper’s opinion.”

But apparently the new censorship rule didn’t apply to the newspapers owner, Clay Foster. Because two days later, he published a column about why gay marriage is “contrary to God’s Word.”

Of course that's not the way I was taught objective journalism works when I was in college. But I don't think it's worth getting too upset about because newspapers are a dying medium anyway. They'll all be looking for work within the next ten years.  And, I would imagine NOT having wedding announcements published in the newspaper for some gay men still might work out to their advantage if their goal is to remain discreet in order to avoid discrimination. Yeah, there's still a lot of that out there these days.

You can read the rest here.

Tom Daley Gets Naked

This is more clickbait and you won't see any real nudity. But it's fun and I guess Tom Daley figures he better take advantage of a good thing while he's still young enough to do it.

“I’ve always loved sharks. They’ve always really fascinated me,” Daley stated about the oceanic predator. “So today, I’m going to try and combat some of the misconceptions about sharks because they’re awesome animals.”

Tom teamed up with Sea World Parks and Entertainment for the project, which is being done in conjunction with UK Shark Week (August 2-8). The entire transformation was done by two artists and took four hours to complete.

Yes. Sharks are awesome.

Here you go. It's meant with the best of intentions, I'm sure. But not everyone in the comments was pleased about the misleading headline. Don't totally blame Queerty, though. You're getting free content while many are starting to charge readers.

Will the Gawker Story Change the Shame? Pastor Suffers Gay Hate the Most; You Can't Be Fired For Being Gay

Will the Gawker Story Change the Shame?

Mostly everyone has heard about a story Gawker ran about a married "straight" exec with ties to the Obama administration and the exec allegedly looking for sex from a gay pornster for hire. The pornster allegedly wanted something from the exec and it all devolves from there. Gawker has received huge backlash for publishing the piece, enough to remove the article. Of course that's been truncated and it goes much deeper.

Gawker nevertheless reported that Geithner planned to go to Chicago to meet a gay porn star and escort, and was prepared to pay $2,500 for the encounter. David Geithner reportedly cancelled the meet-up after the escort tried to get him to use his political connections to help with a housing dispute. Previously, the anonymous escort had asked Republican Sen. Ted Cruz's office for help with his housing dispute, the online article said.

And then there's this:

Readers pointed out that publicizing Geithner's possible sexual orientation did nothing for the public good: he's not a public official or political candidate who has advocated against gay rights, for instance.

"This guy is not an antigay politician whose hypocrisy needs to be outed. Why would anyone care if he wants to hire an escort?" wrote reader Mike Johnson of Los Angeles on Gawker's Facebook page.

I wouldn't have published anything like this. I believe coming out is personal and private. But I can't help thinking about the shame that's still involved with being gay. That's all. I'm not taking this to another level. I'm only talking about the shame right now. If this guy had allegedly tried to hire a female sex worker would all these people be up in arms on twitter about that?

It reminds me of the old Hollywood days when every single topic was safe to report on except one...don't tell anyone that the star is gay.  Think Rock Hudson. Hell, think J. Edgar Hoover. And that's not the way it should work anymore. I don't mean we should start outing people. But the shame shouldn't be there.

You can read the rest here.

Pastor Suffers Gay Hate the Most

A brilliant gay man literally saved a church from going under, but when they discovered he married a man he was let go. Think about that. Here's a brave gay man who isn't hiding anything, he isn't hiring male whores, he isn't worth millions of dollars, and he now can't work at what he loves doing anymore because he's gay. That's the kind of guy we should all be tweeting and supporting.

Thankfully, people are speaking up for him, which I've noticed has been a trend lately.

When it was discovered that Hutchinson had married his male partner, church officials told him he was “unfit” to lead the congregation. He was fired the same day.

Now that same congregation — the one he built — is speaking out in Hutchinson’s defense.
“This church was dying when he came here, they weren’t far from closing the doors. It was real close. He came in, worked on it, got people to come…He brought life back into that church,” said Kevin Hershberger, a church member.

You can read this here.

I can't tell you much, but I can tell you this. This guy has nothing at all to be ashamed about.

You Can't Be Fired For Being Gay

This almost sounds too good to be true. I don't know enough about it to comment in depth because, oddly, it didn't seem to filter into any of my news feeds today. I find that disturbing...that I read all kinds of other articles that weren't nearly as important as this one is.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, created to enforce and implement the 1964 Civil Rights Act, ruled this week that workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal.

The ruling states that employers who discriminate against LGBT workers are violating Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits employment discrimination “based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.”

It’s a new interpretation of the law with wide-reaching potential.

In the past, courts have ruled that Title VII doesn’t apply to sexual orientation because it isn’t explicitly mentioned, but the new interpretation accounts for LGBT discrimination under the umbrella of sex discrimination.

“Sexual orientation discrimination is sex discrimination because it necessarily entails treating an employee less favorably because of the employee’s sex,” the EEOC concluded.

You can read the rest here. THIS is big news. I just hope there isn't a catch somewhere.

Peter Berg Slams Caitlyn Jenner; The Duggars Are Canceled; FREE Gay Excerpt

Peter Berg Slams Caitlyn Jenner

I think because I've known so many trans people in my lifetime this kind of thing bothers me a little less each time I hear it...only because I've heard all this negativity before and I'm just not sensitized to it anymore.

Actor/Director Peter Berg recently made comments on social media about Caitlyn that have many people both repulsed and resigned to the fact that ignorance and bigotry still exists.

Peter Berg posted an atrocious meme on Instagram that juxtaposes Jenner alongside a picture of double amputee war veteran Gregory D. Gadson, with the caption: “One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs. Guess which man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the ‘Arthur Ashe Courage Award’ by ESPN?”

You can read the rest here...he did post an apology on instagram.  But it's that Ariana Grande kind of apology that falls short in sincerity. In other words, he didn't just come out and say "I'm a fucking douche. I'm sorry for that."

While there's no way possible to ever thank and praise veteran, Gregory D. Gadson, enough for his bravery and what he did for the US, not to mention the sacrifices he made, I don't think it's fair to fault Jenner for going public the way she did. I never, ever take either situation lightly and I'm in awe of both Jenner and Gadson.

The Duggars Are Canceled

The Duggars have/had that reality TV show, 19 Kids and Counting. They've always been anti-gay, and without apology. I didn't mind them too much and I never paid much attention to them. They are what they are. However, they also have a history of sex abuse within the family.

The cancelation comes after it was revealed that the Duggars eldest song, Josh, has a history of molesting little girls, including two of his own sisters. The 27-year-old former executive director of the antigay Family Research Council Action admitted to forcibly fondling his sisters 12 years ago in a statement released back in May.

ADVERTISING
“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting,” the network said in a statement released earlier today. “The show will no longer appear on the air.”

I can't help but think about how much this reminds me of the Pope and the Catholic Church. While they slam gays and try to block equal rights whenever they can, they've all got more than their fair share of skeletons in their own closets.

Free Gay Excerpt: The Rainbow Detective Agency: The Scottish Duke

Here's an excerpt from the most recent book in the Rainbow Detective series, The Scottish Duke Book Five. It hasn't been published yet, but I thought I'd post the prologue.

This book is a stand alone and it has a lot of different elements I don't usually get into. One, there's a transgender character. I can't go into detail about that without giving spoilers. Two, I get into the topic of writers writing gay fiction, pen names, fake identities, and how competitive it can sometimes become. In fact, the entire mystery revolves around a character who writes gay romance and will stop at nothing to become a best seller in the genre. I can't go into detail there either because of spoilers.

In a small, dark studio apartment located in a quiet section of West Hollywood, the vinyl floors were ripped and cracked and the venetian blinds hung gray with age. The stove-top was littered with old magazines and the toilet in the only bathroom didn't have a seat. There was nothing extraordinary about the apartment other than this: the walls were lined with images of Proctor Gamble.

Every wall, not just one. It wasn't even possible to see a hint of the drab gray paint showing through.

There were photos of Proctor as a young male model in swimsuits and photos of portraits that had been painted of him by pop culture artists. In some of the photos, Proctor wore designer business suits from the 1990's and in others he wore sleek leather jackets with faded jeans. There were full body images, close ups of Proctor's face, and there was even one rare magazine photo of him posing in his home with his Bengal cat, Constance. The newer photos were from newspaper clippings where he'd been mentioned as the owner of The Rainbow Detective Agency. Stippled in between them, were selfies Proctor had posted on social media that had been printed on flimsy white paper.

However, the centerpiece of this obsession was on the longest wall in the apartment. This wall was lined from floor to ceiling, one over-lapping the other, with the infamous poster of Proctor Gamble in a swimsuit. Even the one window on that wall had been covered up with the swimsuit poster.

This was the swimsuit photo of Proctor that had turned him into a pop culture icon and made his career as a world famous male model. At the time he'd posed for it, the men's swimwear company that had hired him had placed him on a billboard in Times Square. Back then no one thought much of it. They all thought it was just another swimsuit campaign that would come and go like all the rest, including Proctor.

For some reason the swimsuit photo resonated with millions of people and Proctor's entire life changed suddenly overnight. He was asked to do morning news shows, was featured on talk shows, and became one of the world's highest paid male models and a pop culture celebrity without even trying too hard.
After that, millions of people fell in love with Proctor Gamble, including the middle aged man who rented the small studio apartment in West Hollywood that smelled like a swamp and was filled with images of Proctor. At a glance, there was nothing special about this man other than the fact that his apartment was covered with photos of Proctor. He had short brown hair, a medium build, and stood almost six feet tall. He had unusually small hands and feet. When he was dressed he wore dad jeans and plain white or checked short sleeve shirts, and always with sneakers and black socks from a discount store. He had no pets, no family, and no friends. If a stranger had walked into his apartment and taken one quick glance at the walls, the stranger would have gaped at him and wondered if there was something wrong.

When the guy was home alone he never put on clothes. He enjoyed exposing his sagging chest and his slight paunch to the perfect images of Proctor that followed him everywhere he went in the apartment. Sometimes he would stand in one spot staring at them for no particular reason. Other times he would smile and make faces at them, as if expecting Proctor's photos to reply to him.
On a warm morning in the early part of a quiet week, a gun went off in the apartment and the man's eyes grew wider. A second after that, the naked man fell and landed on his back. He'd been facing the longest wall, the one covered with the famous swimsuit posters of Proctor. As the naked man glanced up at the wall, he noticed a large splash of blood on Proctor's face, and then saw spots of fresh blood on the posters surrounding that one.

He took one quick breath and gasped.

His body shuddered a few times and his eyes opened a little wider.

Before he closed his eyes for the last time, he smiled when he saw Proctor Gamble's image looking down at him, as if he'd finally seen the face of God.

Kirk Cameron Gay Softcore Erotic Book; Kegel For Your Male Sex; Gay F. W. Murnau's Head Stolen

Kirk Cameron Gay Softcore Erotic Book

Some author I've never heard of just released a gay erotic novella with a character that's Kirk Cameron...I think. It's hard to comment. I'm not even sure this is legal to do or how it plays out with free speech, and I don't know how litigious Kirk Cameron is. Scarlett Johansson  filed a defamation lawsuit against a romance writer a few years ago in France for something like this, and she won. I don't recall the details of that case, but you can check that out with the link.

Set at a remote pray-the-gay-away summer camp, Kirk Cameron & the Crocoduck of Chaos Magick tells the story of a rebellious teenager who employs “chaos magick” to seek revenge on the camp’s director, Kirk Cameron, by sicking a “crocoduck” on the Saving Christmas star.

And this:

According to the book’s description, Kirk Cameron & the Crocoduck of Chaos Magick promises lots of “hot gay orgy action, involving crockoducks, sexy holy cheese, Chaos Magick, oral sex, anal, clone 69ing, and Stigmata hand sex.”

For the most part the article reads like an advertorial, which it probably is. But the comments are interesting.  I think I'll pass on this one.

The rest of this is here.

Kegel For Your Male Sex

According to this article, Kegel improves sex for men, too. And what exactly is Kegel, you ask?

It's a pelvic exercise routine that tightens vaginal walls. But it's allegedly good for men.

“Some research shows that Kegel exercises can make erections point further up in men whose penises tend to point down or straight forward when erect,” says urologist Darius A. Paduch. Well as long as some research shows it, it’s got to be true.

Fetters prescribes three sets of ten, three times a day to achieve results.

Here you go.

No comment. I'll just quietly show myself out with this one.

Gay F. W. Murnau's Head Stolen

F. W. Murnau is a storied silent horror film director of Hollywood's early days. Evidently, there was a skull stolen from his family grave site, in Germany.

Murnau, who was best known work for his 1922 vampire film Nosferatu, died in a car accident in Santa Barbara in 1931. He was 42 at the time. One of Old Hollywood’s longest-standing rumors — never substantiated — suggests that he died while performing fellatio on a young Filipino man who was driving his car when it crashed into an electric pole.

The recent theft isn’t the first time Murnau’s head has been the object of people’s fascination. According to Hollywood legend, after he died, screen siren Greta Garbo commissioned a death mask of Murnau’s face, which she kept on her desk.

You can read more here. Authorities are working to solve the case, but it's not the first time his grave has been disturbed.

The Robbie Rogers Excuse For Not Boycotting; French Gay MP Gets Married; George Michael and Cocaine Claims

The Robbie Rogers Excuse For Not Boycotting Russia

Here we go again. I can just see Robbie Rogers with his PR people trying to figure out a way for Rogers to go to Russia and play in the World Cups in 2018 and Qatar in 2022 and not look bad. They are getting a head start and I have to admit it's clever. And I might even agree with it...except it didn't work with the Russian Olympics when gay people went there, and it's not going to work in 2018 or 2022 unless there's some kind of change in the way Russia treats LGBT people.

Nothing changed for LGBT people in Russia because gay Americans with notoriety went there during the Olympics.

Rogers is saying this:

Robbie Rogers has decided if he is chosen for the US soccer team at the World Cups in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022, he will not boycott.

Instead, he has said he will be ‘extremely flamboyant’ as an act of protest against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic laws.

The LA Galaxy leftback has reflected on his position has reflected on his position as one of the only openly LGBTI professional footballers in the world.

He says the situation, especially among players, has improved.

‘Obviously there are ‘not out’ footballers around the world and that reminds me of the atmosphere in the locker room, especially what it was like for me before I came out,’ he told Mirror Sport.

I'm not sure what he means by "flamboyant." A feather boa?  But in his defense he seems to be one of the few brave souls to come out and say he's gay in that locker room environment. I can't slam him for that. It can't be easy. And at least he's taking a stand in some direction, unlike Johnny Weir did with the Russian Olympics.

I still feel strongly about this and I believe as gay Americans we should boycott completely...and I don't even believe in boycotts for the most part. Don't support anything in Russia until they start treating LGBT people like human beings, with respect and dignity. And you can't fault me for that. Those people need our support all the time, not just part time. Acting flamboyant is not going to help them much.

French Gay MP Gets Married

France's first openly gay MP got married in a public ceremony.

Luc Carvounas on Saturday (11 July) became the first gay French parliamentarian to tie the knot since same-sex marriage was legalized in May 2013.

The Socialist Party senator said yes to his partner Stéphane Exposito to cheers and applause at the town hall in Alfortville, where he is also the mayor.

‘This is a great day for me and I’m happy to share it,’ Carvounas, 44, said.

‘The people of Alfortville know who I am. For ten days, I have had nothing but positive feedback that counterbalances what is happening on social networks.’

You can check that out here. There's a photo.  Aside from the fact that they are wearing those awful matching outfits, they look like a nice couple.

The nice thing about this is that it's actually starting to feel as if this isn't huge news anymore. I can't wait until it's not news at all.

George Michael and Cocaine Claims

I've always been a George Michael fan...since the 80's. He only seems to get more attractive as he ages, which isn't something that happens to most men. In this piece he's claiming the rumors about cocaine abuse are false.

Georgiou’s claims were strenuously denied by a spokesperson for the star.

‘Whilst it is our general policy not to comment on private matters, we would in this instance note that these highly inaccurate stories have been apparently provided to the press by the wife of a very distant family member, neither of whom has had any dealings with him for many many years.

‘It is therefore unsurprising that they are so incorrect.

‘Beyond this we have no further comment to make as the matter is now in the hands of Mr Michael’s lawyers.’

Michael himself took to Twitter yesterday to also deny the claims, saying in a tweet, ‘To my lovelies, do not believe this rubbish in the papers today by someone I don’t know anymore and haven’t seen for nearly 18 years…’

You can read the rest here. I don't need to comment any further and invade his privacy more than it already has been invaded.

Whoopi on Cosby; Waldron Mercy Catholic School Gets Support for Firing Gay Teacher; Jane Lynch on Gay Closeted Hollywood

Whoopi on Cosby

There was a piece that aired on John Oliver's Sunday night show on HBO about how Whoopi Goldberg always seems to defend "notorious" celebrities. In the video, there's a clip of her making a comment that went like this..."I don't believe it was rape, rape." I'm not sure what that means. There are two kinds of rape?

In any event, this is how Whoopi indirectly replied to the criticism:

On The View on Monday, an emotional Goldberg indirectly referenced the criticism while speaking about her brother, who died two months ago.

Goldberg said: "If I don't get onboard with a lot of stuff that is upsetting people, understand that my real life is much more upsetting than stuff that is happening outside."

I'm not questioning anyone's motives, and I fully understand how things in our personal lives change our levels of interest in public hot button topics. A year ago if you'd asked me to comment on something other than what was happening with my family I would have told you to get bent.

There's more here, with something about how Cosby's wife is still supporting him even though court documents are now surfacing about all this "alleged" sex abuse.

Waldron Mercy Catholic School Gets Support for Firing Gay Teacher

The grand Archbishop Charles J. Chaput is supporting the decision made to fire a lesbian school teacher at a private suburban Philadelphia parochial school, Waldron Mercy. He thinks it showed "character and common sense." I think I might have to write that book about the gay priests I've known who live double lives.

"There's nothing complicated or controversial in this. It's a simple matter of honesty.

Oh, honesty...because the church is always focused on honesty.

"I'm very grateful to the Religious Sisters of Mercy and to the principal and board members of Waldron Mercy for taking the steps to ensure that the Catholic faith is presented in a way fully in accord with the teaching of the Church. They've shown character and common sense at a moment when both seem to be uncommon."

The main reason this has sparked such huge controversy is that the parents of the kids attending the school have been outraged by this decision. The problem is simple. I went to 12 of Catholic school and I've seen it an heard it all before. There's nothing American or democratic about the Catholic religion or Catholic schools. You are taught church doctrine, you are taught to think the way the church wants you to think, you're never allowed an opinion of your own, and if there are gays in the church they are supposed to hide in shame and lurk in shadows.  That's about as honest as it gets.

You can read more here. There's a photo of Chaput here.

Whenever I see something along these lines I'm even more tempted to write that book about the two gay bishops I once knew who lived as a "married" couple in New Hope part time, and then lived as conservative Catholic priests the rest of the time. Oh, and they had a gay guy about thirty years younger living with them...their own cute little twink. The only reason I found out about them was that they'd listed their house for sale and their real names popped in public records. You can imagine my shock when I saw the photo of them in full Catholic drag saying mass. I could link to the photos now, but I really don't believe in doing that, or outing people. I'm just trying to point out that Chaput should be more worried about what's going in behind everyone's back within the church instead of going after a poor innocent woman who did nothing to hurt anyone, ever.

Jane Lynch on Gay Closeted Hollywood

This is interesting, because Jane Lynch who is an openly gay celebrity says she never had a coming out moment. I get that because I never did. I never hid who I was, and yet I never had that moment where I said, "I'm gay."

“I’m an actor and when people started taking an interest in me, where they wanted to write about me, I didn’t say I wasn’t gay, so — I never had that,” she said in an interview on SiriusXM Progress. “And I have to give kudos to people like Melissa Etheridge and k.d lang and Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O’Donnell, all of those people who came before and at the height of their career, when they had a lot to lose, stood up and said this is who I am. And the world kind of went [gasps]…and then, nothing happened. That was really great and they kind of cleared a path for me to just stroll down.”

I know this might sound weak on my part, but I really do believe some things can't be pushed. As long as a closeted gay person doesn't slam openly gay people, I'm not willing to demand they come out of the closet for the sake of everyone else. I'd like to see them come out for themselves. But I do realize that people have to make a living, and whether it's Hollywood or the corporate exec, it's not always possible to come out and remain viable. The discrimination is still there in all professions...even in book publishing. I can't even talk about most of what I know for fear of outing someone in publishing.

There's more about Lynch and her new TV show. She says it well here. This is why I wouldn't write that book about the gay Catholic priests I've known living double lives.

For me to make a broad statement — it’s like outing people. I think that was a horrible thing. You might be dealing with a very fragile part of someone’s psyche. So I think everybody has to go their own path…That’s ridiculous, in this day and age, if somebody’s telling somebody not to [come out].”
