Don Lemon's Comments On Dangerous White Men

Don Lemon recently made a few strong racist comments, and there have been quite a few strong racist reactions. 

Said Lemon: “The biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them. There is no travel ban on them. There is no ban on–you know, they had the Muslim ban. There is no white guy ban. So what do we do about that?”

$10 Million Funding Toward Pulse Museum In Orlando

Here's a follow up to a story I linked to a while back about the Pulse Nightclub Massacre in 2016. 

Commissioners in Orange County, Florida, have approved $10million (€8.8million) in funding towards a Pulse Museum and memorial. The project will commemorate the lives lost at LGBTI nightclub, Pulse, in June 2016.

You can read a lot more back story, here.   As of right now, until they build the actual memorial, there's an interim memorial that has been visited by over 41,000 people.

Fire Island's Underground Drag History Documentary

We had a very good friend back in the late 90s named Rolf who was much, much older than we were. At the time, I think he and his partner of 30 years were in their 70s and both had retired to New Hope. We were in our 20s and he used to tell us stories about his drag days in the 1960s and 70s on Fire Island, and I never thought I'd be posting about them 20 years later. The stories were fascinating. Unfortunately, Rolf and his partner both passed away around 2002, but I'll be looking for this documentary as soon as it's released. 

Fisher’s new film Cherry Grove Stories covers the history of the Fire Island neighborhood from its earliest days to the present, and plays at NewFest October 30. In it, he and his interview subjects recount their own memories, as well as the gay folklore imparted to them when they first began visiting the popular gay destination.

Married Pilot Busted For Hooking Up With Teen Boy on Grinder

Here's another Grindr story. This time it's about a 46 year old married male pilot and a 14 year old boy.

Morris connected with the 14-year-old boy called “Tom” on the hookup app back in December 2016. The two chatted for a while before Morris invited Tom over to his elderly parent’s house for a hookup in the wee hours of December 28.

You can read it all, here. The 46 year old was found guilty and now he's registered as a sex offender.

Amazon's Transphobic Caitlyn Jenner Costume

Here's something that has a lot of people up in arms, and rightly so. 

Amazon has come under fire for a transphobic Halloween Caitlyn Jenner costume.

The Halloween costume comes as a set, with a jersey top, pair of shorts, brunette wig, Olympic medal and removable marathon number.’

Here's the link.   So far, Jenner has not commented on the costume. I think it would be interesting if LGBT people decided to dress up for Halloween as straight people. It could be done easily, too.

Lawyer Offers FREE Name Changes For Trans People

This is a nice story about support and solidarity. 

An attorney in Ohio is offering free name change services to transgender people.

Attorney Andrew Schriver was considering doing this good deed for a while. But he finally bit the bullet when a friend of his needed one.

Texas Library Sued Over Drag Queens Reading To Kids

It looks as if the anti-gay Christians are at it again. 

Known as Christ Followers, the group argue taxpayer dollars should not fund the Drag Queen Story Time event at the Freed-Montrose Neighborhood library in Houston.

Here's a link to this one. They say the library refuses to do a man-woman marriage storytelling hour. What always surprises me about these stories is that don't these anti-gay Christians realize the entire world IS a man-woman marriage storytelling hour. We live in a heteronormative society because that's what dominates, and the only LGBT things we see as kids or adults is few and far between.

I always wonder about this kind of study for one valid reason. How do they actually know who's LGBT or not? Not everyone is out of the closet and willing to admit they are LGBT. However, it's still interesting because a lot more LGBT people are out of the closet than ever before. So we can't dismiss it either.

LGBT+ people in the US are more likely to be poor than straight people, according to a new study.

The study, which was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, found that lesbian and bisexual women were the worst off.

I have to admit that one of the things I've always wanted to do is go to the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. It's just never been convenient (or realistic) for me. But it always sounds like fun.

As summer wanes, the people of San Francisco come together once again for the world famous–and infamous–Folsom Street Fair. Launched in 1984, the festival became an international sensation, attracting 400,000 guests and rising each year.

Pakistani Trans Woman Burned Alive

This is unthinkable for most of us. When a trans woman refused the sexual advances of 4 men, they burned her alive. 

The attack took place on Thursday, 6 September. This unidentified person was misgendered in news reports.

The victim suffered from burn injuries on 80% of her body. She died while in transit to the hospital.

Gay Sex Ban In Former British Colonies

Here's more LGBT news on the Global Front. It seems we've been hearing about these things a lot more lately, which I hope continues. 

The harshest anti-gay laws in the world, including some carrying the death penalty, exist in the Middle East and weren’t inherited from the British. But in many former colonies in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, conservative political parties and religious groups have resisted efforts to repeal the old laws.

A California lawmaker said Friday he is ending his effort this year to pass a bill declaring gay conversion therapy a fraudulent practice.

Apple Blocks Gay Pride Watch Face In Russia

I wish I could say that things like this surprise me, but the truth is they don't anymore. In fact, I expect them. Companies like Apple get away with anything they want these days, because they know they can.

The self-censoring of the gay pride watch face on the Apple Watch is a shocking discovery considering how big a supporter Apple is of LGBTQ rights. Yet iOS developer Guilherme Rambo found evidence that the pride Apple Watch face is “hardcoded to not show up if the paired iPhone is using the Russian locale.”

The Briggs Initiative: Gay History

Being that it's so hard to find any gay history anywhere, I jump at the chance to link to these things. I think this is an excellent example of the battles we've been fighting for years. And I also learned a few things I didn't know before. 

In 1978, State Sen. John Briggs put an initiative on the ballot that would have mandated the firing of any gay or lesbian teacher in California public schools, or any teacher who supported gay rights (the term LGBT wasn’t used back then). Thanks to a Herculean effort by California grassroots activists — Harvey Milk, Cleve Jones, Sally Miller Gearhart, hundreds of others — Briggs’s Proposition 6, popularly known as the Briggs Initiative, was resoundingly defeated, by more than a million votes. It was the first time voters had rejected an antigay measure.

Here's the link to this one. I find it interesting to note that one of the people who helped defeat the Briggs Initiative was former President Ronald Reagan. He actually published something in the newspaper that denounced the measure. It's a fascinating article. You should check it out.

This goes much deeper than the headline of this posts suggests. You know how I'm always talking about gay culture being appropriated by straight white people, but no other culture is. Well, I've been wrong. I truly didn't know this kind of thing was still happening.

This one even mentions Scarlett Johansson.

That debate shows no signs of abating. Earlier this month, after intense criticism, a theater in Montreal cut short the run of a production by the director Robert Lepage that featured mostly white actors playing black slaves. A week later, the actress Scarlett Johansson withdrew from playing a transgender role after an online outcry.


Here's the rest.  This debate is not going away any time soon. Marginalized groups, including LGBT people, are tired of being appropriated and it's been building for very long time.

San Francisco's Male Strip Club Closes

Here's another one.

Despite record-setting profits, San Francisco's iconic and last male strip club Nob Hill Theatre will close its doors after 50 years of business on Sunday, August 19. 

Owners Larry Hoover, 65, and Gary Luce, 63, plan to retire to Palm Springs, Bay Area Reporter confirmed, and the building's new owner will not be using it for an adult club.

CrossFit Welcomes Trans Athletes

Here's something else I think we'll see happening more often. 

Starting next year, transgender CrossFitters will be allowed to compete in the annual CrossFit games. The 2019 registration form will recognize gender identity instead of sex assigned at birth.

Good for CrossFit. They obviously "get" it. The old days are coming to an end.
