Here's more on the topic of straight actors playing gayface. This one is so blunt it actually surprised me, which isn't easy to do.
Penn Badgley, best known for playing Dan Humphrey on the hit show Gossip Girl, is weighing in on the debate over whether straight actors should play gay roles and sharing why he’s so over “privileged ass white people.”
Of course I agree with him. I've been posting links about this for years now. And I'm thrilled to see more people talking about this. These actors, just like gay authors, have been getting screwed over professionally by straight white privilege all their lives. I know how that works. There are some people out there who prefer gay content that comes from a heteronormative POV.
Here's more. He actually makes some excellent points. It's just a shame so many gay people don't understand all this yet. It's going to take a lot of time with this one.
Andy Cohen Becomes a Dad At 50 Years Old
I think this is inspiring, especially for a man his age, and I'm not even all that familiar with Andy Cohen. I think people often forget that gay people grew up believing they would never have marriage, family, and children. So that alone is significant, with respect to what Cohen is doing so late in his life.
The 50-year-old Watch What Happens Live! host announced yesterday that he’s expecting his first child via surrogate in 2019.
“I’ve always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life,” Andy said on his show last night. “I overshare and I expect everyone around me to do the same.”
You can read it all, here. You'll want to avoid the comments with this one. There are just too many negative people on the Internet.
Queer Eye Stars Help Students
I'm sorry to admit that I haven't watched Queer Eye yet, but I am going to make a point of seeing it. I like what they're doing here.
