I know I won't win any clickbait awards for leading with this article, but I think it's important.
Portland, Oregon is following in the footsteps of other US cities and renaming one of their streets after Harvey Milk.
The 13-block stretch of Southwest Stark Street, once a major neighborhood of the city’s LGBTI community, is getting the change. Portland’s City Council voted unanimously for the update.
Here's the rest. It's interesting to note that not many people know everything there is to know about Harvey Milk, especially about his early career.
After graduation, Milk joined the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served aboard the submarine rescue ship USS Kittiwake (ASR-13) as a diving officer. He later transferred to Naval Station, San Diego to serve as a diving instructor. In 1955, he was discharged from the Navy at the rank of lieutenant, junior grade.
Mean Nasty Straight Girl Harasses Gay Teacher
This is a very sad story all the way around. A school teacher didn't tell her students she's gay, they found out she's gay, they outed her, and then they started to harass her. That's sad enough. But what's even sadder...to me...is that the school never offered to support the teacher once. And then one mean girl...the typical mean girl you'll find in every small town school...spoke openly about how she believes marriage is only for straight people. It's just a pitiful story of small town ignorance, and I feel bad for the teacher because she obviously wasn't prepared to deal with vicious straight people like this.
“At the start of the school year, some students found out that I am gay — a fact I had never shared with my students. They posted photos online and it became the talk of the campus. While it is dehumanizing and painful to be outed, my hope was that it would die down. Instead, it escalated to the point that I was being harassed in and out of the classroom. When I sought the help and support of my administration, I did not find it. The situation became so severe that I sought the support of the union, who hired me a lawyer to help me navigate this situation.”
You can read the rest here. You can watch a video to see how the mean girl and her family use their religious freedom as a means to discriminate. It must suck to be them.
Ricky Martin's Past Hidden Lovers
Here's a story about what it was like for Ricky Martin before he came out of the closet. If you recall, Martin had a role in American Crime Story: Versace.
“[Versace] was being brave enough to come out of the closet and to introduce his partner in public. I tell you this and my heart sped up because I went through the same thing as a closeted gay man.
Do you know how many lovers I had that I hid from the public that I did not allow anyone to see because I was afraid?”
I think it's an interesting article. Here's the rest.
