The First UK Pride Ever; Simon and Schuster Defending the Gay Milo Yiannopoulos Book Deal; Steve Grand Story

The First UK Pride Ever

This is something I didn't know. I thought there were gay prides everywhere.

For the first time ever, there will be a UK Pride in 2017.

Hoping to bring together the 90+ prides across the UK, the inaugural UK Pride will commence 50 years after the decriminalization of homosexuality in 1967.

UK Pride will merge with Pride in Hull and will be held on 22 July 2017.

Gay Star News spoke to Andy Train and Steve Taylor, co-chairs of the UK Pride Organizers Network, to find out everything you need to know.

You can read more here. It's an interview about the event. It's kind of bittersweet when you take in the magnitude of the entire situation...that being gay made a person a criminal prior to 1967.

Simon and Schuster Defending the Gay Milo Yiannopoulos Book Deal

Good old trad publisher Simon and Schuster who charges a small fortune for e-books just signed openly gay conservative pundit, Milo Yiannopoulos, to a book deal. A very lucrative book deal, and now they are defending their decision because there's been backlash.

‘We do not and never have condoned discrimination or hate speech in any form,’ the company said in a statement released yesterday, 30 December, according to Vanity Fair. ‘At Simon & Schuster we have always published books by a wide range of authors with greatly varying, and frequently controversial opinions, and appealing to many different audiences of readers. While we are cognizant that many may disagree vehemently with the books we publish we note that the opinions expressed therein belong to our authors, and do not reflect either a corporate viewpoint or the views of our employees.’

You can read the rest here. This sentence at the end of the article says it best: Yiannopoulos is typically gleeful about all the attention.

The book community has gone upside down over this and it will be interesting to see how MY's book sells. Is there an audience for a conservative gay pundit? Or is this just another bad decision by a large publisher? I'm not sure, but I am not spelling his name again unless someone threatens my chocolate.

Steve Grand Story

On a more positive note, here's something about self-made entertainer and pop culture figure, Steve Grand. Now this is one gay man who tells the truth and deserves every ounce of attention he can get.

Steve Grand became something of a new man in 2016.
Just before going onstage in Colorado on New Year’s Eve, The popular singer wrote an Instagram post about the changes he’d had in the past 12 months.

They include being sober and changing his attitude.

You can check that out here. It's endearing and honest, which you don't see too often these days.
